After Class

Mizukami Ayumu sat on the floor, his back to the wall, just beside the library’s door. The flickering sunlight was getting into his face, and so his head was turned down, seemingly bowed to the setting radiance. He was here because he was waiting for someone, who said that he would come; that was Otomo Kojiro-san.
It was dismissal time; most of the people in the school were out for their club activities, hanging out with some of their friends before the inevitable time that they would have to go home, or were in the process of going home... very few would be here, looking for books or reading, in the library. Technically, he wasn’t even in the library; just outside it, like some sort of sentinel. He hoped people won’t mind. He yawned.
He had come here after his last class had ended, though he had to admit that he did take his time. Kojiro said he would be here; maybe he was already inside the library, looking for whatever he needed there... if he remembered correctly, it was reference material... well, the phrase in itself was vague, but Ayumu wasn’t really very concerned about the specifics. At any rate, he came here because Kojiro suggested it. Ayumu was easily persuaded when it comes to people who he thinks are nice to him.
He wasn’t really very sure about entering the library. First of all, he had no business being inside, though he could probably browse a book or two... second, Kojiro and he might just miss each other, so he thought it would be easier for both of them if he just stayed put. Then again, he could have stayed put inside the library... he looked around the empty corridor, and the deepening shadows returned his gaze.
His senpai had suggested the meeting when they had met earlier, during lunch; he had come across him in a rather uncomfortable time, it seemed, as he was to meet with the Fujibayashis... well, that was what he said. Perhaps it would be improper to ask just what happened with their meeting. To think about it, he wasn’t really sure of what to say to Kojiro. He had just approached him during lunch because he knew him... and vice versa. Still, maybe it wouldn’t be bad to meet up with somebody like this... he wondered what Furukawa-senpai did during dismissal time... what she was doing now. Maybe he could ask Koji about that... did he know Furukawa-senpai?
He shifted his legs from their crossed position, laying one on the floor and one bent on the knee. They could get stiff pretty fast. Sometimes he wondered why he did things like this. Well, they were friends... Koji and he... right? Still, there was the chance that he and Fujibayashi-senpai had made further plans when they met earlier... he would understand, well, since he would probably do the same in a similar situation... maybe he could ask Koji about hwo to deal with those matters, though that might be asking for too much private information...
He yawned, and this time, he tried to stifle it with his left hand. Unsightly, unsightly...

Thunk.
The sound of a metal stamp hitting a book echoed between the bookshelves, as the librarian checked the book out, passing it over to a waiting Kojiro, whom was tapping his foot impatiently. He'd spent the best part of six minutes trying to get the attention of a girl who had her nose in a particularly large foreign novel. She didn't respond to any of Koji's requests to move, allowing him to get the book he needed from the shelf behind her. Surmising that the girl was either very ignorant, or stone-deaf, he tucked it safely under his arm. She was probably just deaf.
He was after a mathematics textbook, to help him out with an upcoming test. Math was one of his stronger subjects at school, and Koji gave himself a little self-encouragement to keep his other grades good. Despite being dead-set on pursuing a musical career, as reflected in his exemplary grades in music, he wanted to at least make sure most, if not all of his other grades were decent. He was slightly distracted, having recently came from an... Interesting lunch. He'd assumed he would be eating with his class representative, Ryou Fujibayashi, who was to join her sister, Kyou, and Koji for lunch. For some reason, Ryou was unable to attend, leaving Koji alone with Kyou. It was certainly a unique experience. It gave the two a chance to get to know each other a little better. He'd found that he and Kyou shared a similar goal in life. That of a teaching career. She with teaching kindergartners, and he with teaching music. The question was, other than that, did it go well? Koji certainly hoped so. They had talked about other things. Was he now perhaps a little more than just a face she knew from her sister's class? Koji didn't know. What he did know, was that he'd spent the past minutes trying to get a textbook, and was ready to leave the library. He'd arranged to meet Ayumu outside the library after class was over. He had best not keep him waiting.
Sure enough, he was there. Waiting patiently. He looked to be yawing quite a bit. Koji wondered just how long he'd been in that library. He'd only met his kohai a few times, but Ayumu was very friendly. Glad that he was making friends, given his past actions, Koji approached Ayumu, cheerfully greeting him with a wave, mirroring Ayumu's own from earlier.
"Hope I didn't keep you waiting too long. There's a really strange girl in there. She was sitting in front of my book, and I couldn't get her to move, no matter how many times I kept asking her. I think she might be deaf, or completely spaced out." he explained, showing Ayumu the book as evidence of his success. Despite being hindered by the uncooperative girl, Koji had found a slightly older issue of the textbook. Considering how many students were booking out the math textbooks, he thought himself lucky enough to get his hands on this one.

The younger student’s little smile grew a little wider with the arrival of his upperclassman. Ayumu wouldn’t necessarily consider himself friendly, merely receptive; he tended to feel indebted to people who give him kindness and attention, which, to his lenient point-of-view, usually included almost all of his friends. No, he definitely did not wait too long; no wait is long when the one waited for has arrived, much more too long. It only is long during the wait. Well, maybe he was needlessly complicating a simple wait into something philosophical; he was just glad that his friend had arrived, and that was it.
He nodded to show that he had noticed Koji’s arrival, and then went on to getting up. He scrambled a bit, putting his hand onto the floor to lift himself up; he had to admit that he wasn’t the most graceful person, but that really was a detail that was easily ignored. He managed to stand up; his legs were feeling a bit stiff, but they were okay enough. He patted the dust, if there was any, off his pants.
”A strange girl?” Perhaps he should check out the library at another time, to see this strange girl, though she might not necessarily be a frequent customer... he sighed; he was getting distracted again by something interesting, though he wondered if it could be all his fault... there were a lot of things that were interesting in this school, perhaps even in this neighborhood, and for that he was very thankful.
Koji-senpai wasn’t exactly what Ayumu would call interesting, but he wouldn’t like calling a friend boring either, and he wasn’t really boring to begin with... he just wasn’t as interesting as Fuuko, or Sakagami-san, or Furukawa-senpai, and Sunohara-senpai, if the rumors were true, since he hadn’t even managed to meet that last person.
Still, besides being naturally attracted to interesting things, Ayumu still had the whole indebted thing going, as had been mentioned. He was ultimately grateful to Koji for tolerating his company, even though he sometimes barged in on him unannounced. Koji was a friend, and Ayumu cherished his friends, and it would take a very drastic situation to change that. He liked them and would endure them, because at the back of his mind he knew they were enduring him. Still, the lack of anything interesting gave Ayumu a hard time thinking of what to say.
“So, how was it--” he asked, momentarily shifting to that interesting thing that he’d been pushing out of his mind, and that he had decided he wouldn’t talk about to Koji, since it might have been a little private... but things in your to-be-forgotten-list had ways of getting remembered... “I mean, how are you?” he revised, looking a little sheepish. Maybe they could just talk about the strange girl?
He reached for his shoulder bag, which had been beside him, and slung it unto its usual position. He stood in silence after saying his query, a little tentative. He wondered if he was very easy to see through.

Koji quickly placed the math book into his bag, and returned it to a spot under his arm. Ayumu quickly tried to change his question, but Koji was able, and quick to answer. He'd completely forgotten about his quest in the library, to retrieve the all-important mathematical textbook from the clutches of the deathly silent girl.
"It's okay. I don't mind talking about it... I... Well I think it went well. Fujibayashi-san's sister couldn't make it, so it was just the two of us at lunch. I had a million and one things I could have said, but... We didn't... I didn't. At least not for a while," Koji began, feeling comfortable enough to answer Ayumu's question, and not his quick correction, "then we finally got to talking, and I found out we both want to become teachers. Kyou wants to teach kindergarten, and I want to teach music."
Then, Koji decided to answerer Mizukami's appended question.
"I feel... Different." He muttered, looking to the floor, for the briefest of moments. It wasn't a good different. It was then, that Koji became utterly silent, not caring to react as he walked with his underclassman friend, earning a couple of sour looks, and hushed comments from his fellow seniors. He wouldn't have cared anyway. They were very narrow-minded sticklers of the senpai/kohai hierarchy in school. Besides, he didn't have time to care, his mind was very conflicted at the moment. He decided he would confide in Ayumu.
"I know it's a horrible thing to say, but what does she see in Tomoya Okazaki? He's helping out Furukawa-san, and he doesn't seem interested in Kyou at all." He began, his tone, noticeably filled with a jealous disdain. He knew the Fujibayashi sisters had a close relationship with Tomoya. He and Kyou were on a first name basis. Koji envied that connection, for he doubted that Kyou would think of him, in the same way she thought of the delinquent student. The boy did not want to hate Okazaki for it. He would much rather that the two be friendly to each other. He just had to pose the question to his younger friend.
"Mizukami... If you were in my place, what would you do? Let her be happy with him, or try and keep them as good friends so you could have a chance?" Koji asked, the scorn in his voice replaced with uncertainty. He could eat lunch with Kyou a thousand times, and get to know Kyou a thousand times better, and yet still be nothing more than a friend. Was it selfish to want more than that, when clearly, the girl was interested in another person? Koji suddenly realized the scope of his question, and quickly fired out a response to ti.
"You don't have to answer that..." He added hastily, feeling a pang of guilt, for even suggesting it. A wise man said that if somebody loved someone, truly loved them, then they would let them go. Whether Koji felt love for Kyou remained to be seen. His mind was a shambles trying to make sense of it.

Okay, huh?
The underclassman tried to hide his little smirk of satisfaction. He was not necessarily a gossip, but he did like to find things about people he knew and liked, although he was a little more prudent when it came to Furukawa-senpai. He had to keep a serious countenance during this conversation, however, no matter how much he was delighted to learn more about his upperclassman. He stood by Koji, he who had confessed, succeeding in looking a little more pensive, as he listened.
For a while, he let him speak; Ayumu did not like cutting off people in their speech, and otherwise, he was thinking carefully of what to say. Different... he didn't say 'happy' or 'sad', merely, 'changed'. He kept track of certain bits of information... so not just music, but teaching? Ayumu thought. I probably couldn't handle a bunch of people more hyperactive and younger than I am. he surmised.
He let him say what he wanted, for a while. Perhaps he did not feel merely 'different', as he had said... though perhaps it was a feeling that had been already there for long. A certain feeling of frustration... he could only imagine how he felt. Okazaki Tomoya? Oh, right. That was the person who was helping Furukawa-senpai... he did want to know more about who he was... so he's somebody Kyou likes?
"First of all, call me Ayumu." he reiterated, as a starting statement. He resisted the urge to criticize Koji for always reverting to surname basis, when it had been him who insisted that they call each other by first name. He didn't usually call people by first name, but Koji insisted, and he would hold on the older student to it.
He was uncertain what to say to Koji... but Koji was definitely more uncertain than he, regarding the situation. "Fujibayashi-senpai likes Okazaki-senpai?" he confirmed. His prying nature only extended so much to people he interacted with, and he didn't interact with so many people; so far, both Fujibayashi Kyou and Okazaki Tomoya were strangers to him.
He grinned, reassuringly, he hoped, when his senpai mentioned not having to answer his hypothetical situation. He answered, nonetheless. "I'm not really sure what I would do." He would have said that Koji would know better than him, but he chose to omit it; he looked like he was confused, already.
"I'd like to think I'd let her..." and his mind drifted to his own situation... "be happy, no matter what it takes." He looked thoughtful. "But I don't know if I could actually even endure that." he continued, shifting to his smile. It was an ideal... Ayumu liked ideals, but he wasn’t always so sure he could hold on to them for so long.
"Koji-senpai..." he continued. "I'm not sure I'm the right person to say this, but..." he wondered just how much worth his unsolicited advice would be... "Let things go their way. Who knows who she truly would be happy with." It was so easy to speak when it wasn't about yourself... he hoped he could hold on to this wisdom even if it pertained to his troubles, sooner or later.
He looked a little sheepish, again, after all that he had said. I said so many things... he thought, reflecting. He'd better do justice to his words.
"Let's go." He said, as he led the way forward, trotting. It was much easier to think while one was moving; that was Mizukami Ayumu’s opinion. Specially when certain matters seem heavy, hanging about like the sword of Damocles over your head...
Turning around, Ayumu looked as if he had remembered something. "Oh, and what do you know about Okazaki-senpai?" he asked.

"Ayumu, then... I'm sure of it. She told me she liked someone else, but I thought for the longest time she was actually dating him. She seems to act a little differently around him. It's not very noticeable, so I guess I'm good at reading people. I could be a behavioral psychologist." He explained, trailing off into laughter at the end. It wasn't a very funny matter though. He was conflicted inside. Only a truly horrible person would try and divide friends for his or her own gain.
I'm not really sure what I would do.
Those words really sunk in. His friend was just as uncertain as he was. Then he spoke about being able to endure such a thing. Would he be willing to fight with fire to be with Kyou, or be heartbroken, but let her be happy with Tomoya? He was about to reply when Ayumu spoke again. He was right. He was so right. No-one knew who Kyou would be happy with. Even if she was in love with Tomoya, there was nothing to tell Koji that he felt the same way about her. Quite the pearl of wisdom. Koji nodded as Mizukami began walking away from the library, following him until he caught up.
Oh, and what do you know about Okazaki-senpai?
Koji stopped dead in his tracks. What could he say about the person he was so very jealous of? That he was a no-good delinquent? Misunderstood? It took Koji a short while to collect himself and form a response.
"Well... He and Fujibayashi Ryou are in my class, 3-D. He's often late for class, and he rarely concentrates. It's as if he's got no motivation to do... Anything, no purpose. I've heard he stays out late at nights, roaming the streets. I don't know the details of it, but he used to be on the basketball team before he was kicked off," Koji began, trying his best to share his knowledge on the illusive nature of Tomoya's delinquent nature "I think he must've dreamed of playing basketball, and his dream was taken away from him. Of course, everyone knows about his friend, Sunohara-san."
Koji didn't honestly know Tomoya's situation, other than the hearsay, and what little he overheard. It saddened him to think that Okazaki had his dream shattered. If he were unable to play his music again, perhaps he would understand. He did know that, for whatever reasons, his classmate avoided speaking about home, or his father. Did he run out on Tomoya's mother, much like Koji's own had done with his? He was certainly a mystery. Youhei Sunohara was a little easier to suss out. He lived in the school dormitories, and was the bane of the rugby club, playing his music at eardrum-shattering volumes. He was rude, crude, and often quite a pervert. Koji didn't like him a great deal.
"I think I'd like to talk to him sometime. Maybe get to know him. I think he could use more friends. That'd maybe keep his spirits up, and motivate him to focus on a new dream. I know he's helping Furukawa-san with her Drama Club, and I said I might join it." Koji suggested aloud.

OC: Do we wait for your other character to get approved? I really do have to meet this Okazaki Tomoya.
He had been interested in the character of Okazaki-senpai, since Furukawa-senpai mentioned him, as helping her. Mizukami trusted Furukawa-senpai’s trust for what most people have dubbed as the delinquent duo, Okazaki and Sunohara; she must have found something good in them, and he would like to see that as well. Besides, they were helping her, whatever their reasons.
He did have to admit that Furukawa-senpai usually focused on what was good in a person, and so his interest was a little driven by worry, as well. He had to know them... he wondered when an opportunity will present itself. He did not like barging in the businesses of strangers, even strangers who will be friends, or at least acquaintances, in the future.
For a moment, Ayumu wondered if he saw a pang of hurt in the actions of Koji-senpai. Perhaps he had been too direct. “Sorry about asking that.” he muttered, in apology. He could only imagine how Koji felt; perhaps he felt a little jealousy with Okazaki Tomoya, in that he had helped Furukawa-senpai work on her dream even before he could do so, but it must be nothing compared to Koji-senpai’s envy.
He had yet to be able to say, proudly, that he was a good judge of character, just as his upperclassman had done a while ago. Perhaps that was something that he coveted; the ability to know just how other people felt.
He listened intently, after his hasty excuse, as the other boy detailed what he knew about the delinquent who had become the focus of their discussion. Even if it was just mostly hearsay, Ayumu appreciated it, since it might... it must have been hard to talk about somebody who you thought was hogging the good fortune you wanted... although in this case, it seemed Okazaki-senpai had some bad fortune to balance that out.
And, well, Ayumu didn't pay attention much to hearsay unless he was bored.
He thought about how it must feel... to have your dreams shattered. Ayumu really didn’t have something he treasured much, perhaps his infatuation with Furukawa-senpai, or his writing... he ran through the hypothetical situations of losing them. Of them becoming unattainable by any means. Perhaps he could adapt easily, since he probably wasn’t giving his all... or perhaps he would just like be Okazaki-senpai, or his imagined version crafted from the rumors, whichever, empty.
What would it feel like? Emptiness. Having... nothing. It was a thought.
The two of them were approaching the stairs.
Ayumu’s pace became a little slower, as he let his mind buzz. Most of what he had been thinking was open-ended; perhaps they would remain so even after he had met Okazaki himself.
A stray ray of dying sunlight flickered through the spaces, causing the junior to cover his eyes for a moment. The corridor felt surreal; there were very few people that passed them by, and it felt almost like they were the only ones making sound in the vicinity, though the sounds of the sports clubs echoed a little from the distance.
“I think I’d like to talk to him too.” he agreed, as they continued down the hallway.

Her search was at an end.
It had taken her since the moment the lunch bell had sounded out, until now for her to pick up his trail, follow the metaphorical breadcrumbs, and spot him Shou was highly anticipating this conversation. After all, Koji had just come back from his date with Kyou. There was much to discuss. Naturally, he would deny it as a date, but regardless, he asked to eat lunch with her, and she agreed. That spelled "date" in Shou's strangely-tuned mind. The most bizarre thought processes took place in the deepest parts of her brain. They'd clocked into overdrive the second he'd mentioned Fujibayashi-senpai mere weeks ago.
Aside from one fleeting middle school crush, Koji had never spoken to her about any girls. At least, not in the way he spoke of this Kyou. Her reputation was the stuff of legends, as was her throwing arm, akin to a high-velocity sniper rifle, with thick, hard-backed dictionaries as its deadly ammo. A strong woman one could say. Was that why he was so head over heels for her? Because she didn't take anything lying down? Or perhaps coming to her sister's aid like a deadly, Knight in violet armor?
"I found you~" She whispered, bounding down the hall. There was no thousand questions for her to ask. Only one, and one alone. She was sure her audible footsteps would be heard by Koji, as she approached from behind. He was with someone, another male student. He was likely his friend. A lucky break. He would have no trouble being kept in the loop about this, for Koji had surely mentioned the formidable Fujibayshi sister to him.
"Koji-nii! It's me!" Shou called out, wearing her signature Cheshire cat grin from ear to ear. It was her "tell". A way of people letting them know that she was up to no good. Her wide, worrying smile seldom meant something good had happened, was happening, or was about to happen. Running between the two boys, she hopping in front of Koji, beaming deviously.
"Ara? It's you from before. Mizu...Mizukami, right? At least you're not a stranger..." She began, quickly shifting her formerly-surprised look at her cousin who was well-aware of her intentions here. Naturally he'd done his best to ensure she didn't eavesdrop on his lunch with Kyou and her sister, and Shou was livid, raring for some revenge in the form of twenty (or more) questions. She loaded the first one, and fired. Again and again.
"Weeeeeell? How did it go? I want to know everything! Does she like you? Will you both be dating? Can I arrange a best man for your wedding. You know I want to be your first-born's godmother!" She spouted, drowning Koji with her questions. He barely had time to surface it seemed. Naturally he looked to his friend once, and pulled a sheepish look. It was so like him. Always flustered at the mention of Fujibayashi Kyou.
"Don't be shy now Koji-nii. If Mizukami is your friend, then you should have no trouble in spilling the beans!"

OC: I found it strange that Shou was thinking that she'd only ask Koji one question... and then she was planning on asking him twenty or more. XD
Also, sorry for the short post. Maybe I should have let Koji react. And the timeline is screwing with Shou and Ayumu's interaction XDShe had come swinging in rather unpredictably.
Ayumu was rather sure it was his first time meeting this girl, though he might have seen her someplace before. He really should keep track of what he did in a more organized fashion. He might not be ready for her the next time he meets her.
It seemed she had heard of him; and it seemed like she was an acquaintance, or even a relative, of Koji-senpai here, because there would probably be no other reason for her calling him with the suffix '-nii', and, at the same time, knowing him. As far as the white-haired boy could tell, he wasn't exactly the talk of the crowd. So she must have heard of him from Koji. She might have even seen him with Koji, from that statement of hers, 'it's you from before...' Would she have been watching over Koji like a hawk or something? That was some mental image.
She had immediately, after popping up, raised quite a bunch of questions regarding Koji's little excursion a while ago, questions that he would have liked to ask but refrained to... because it would have seemed rather indelicate to do so to Koji-senpai. She must be someone close to him... and at the same time, a rather incessant snoop. Intriguing.
"Are you his aunt?" he blurted, without thinking too much.

"Koji-nii! It's me!"
It was inevitable. Shout was just bound to find him sooner or later. He was glad it was later. The last thing he needed was Shou circling about Kyou and himself during lunch like some vulture. She bounded toward him with alacrity. No doubt she'd want to know every last little detail. She had a habit of asking some strange things. Koji attempted to nip things in the bud, and interrupt her before she could open her mouth.
"Shou-chan I-"
He was not nearly quick enough.
"Ara? It's you from before. Mizu...Mizukami, right? At least you're not a stranger..."
Being perceptive as usual, Shou quickly deduced that the white-haired boy beside her cousin was the friend he'd mentioned before; Mizukami Ayumu. Koji could at least applaud that. Though before he could confirm who Ayumu was and introduce him, Shou had gone off like a Gatling gun, and was spewing questions like hot lead bullets, one after the other.
"Weeeeeell? How did it go? I want to know everything! Does she like you? Will you both be dating? Can I arrange a best man for your wedding. You know I want to be your first-born's godmother!"
"Eh, d-dating? No, it's not like that... Well, not yet, She's just a friend, a friend! That's all." Koji blurted, squeezing his eyes shut as he declared his friendship with Kyou. Friendship, nothing more, nothing less... For now. Shou was such an evil child, attacking his weak point. Koji knew in his head that he was prone to stuttering, or at least mixing his words when Kyou was involved.
"Don't be shy now Koji-nii. If Mizukami is your friend, then you should have no trouble in spilling the beans!"
Persistent. That was one way to describe Shou. Others might find her annoying. Someone so brazen, an unafraid of confrontation. She'd tear off Goliath's head with her bare hands if she had to, undaunted. Whilst poor David would be forced to watch agape, as this tiny Japanese girl tore this stories-tall giant asunder with a verbal lashing, and a loud voice.
"Are you his aunt?"
Thankfully, Ayumu had broken the horrible conversation with a question that was so very left-field. Koji watched as Shou stared at his friend for a solid ten seconds, with an expressionless face. After the tenth second had passed, the corners of her mouth began twisting their way upward. He knew she was on the verge of crippling laughter. The junior girl was holding her sides, giggling gently to herself in a remarkable show of restraint.
"Ah, well, Ayumu... This is my cousin, she's," Koji began, only to be cut off again by Shou's laughing, "I think you should go get a drink of water and calm yourself down before you go on."
It seemed to work, Shou was leaving, allowing Koji to breathe a quick sigh of relief before any serious damage was done by the pint-sized bundle of trouble.
"Sorry about her. She can get a little... Impulsive? No, prying is a more accurate term. Prying, let's go with that."

"Cousin, huh..."
So he was rather right, she was a relative, a cousin. But while perhaps her appearance had similarities to that of Koji-senpai's, their temperaments seemed to have quite the difference from each other; while the senior exhibited more neutral behavior, this girl, who was... 'Shou-chan', was at tangents with her energy, pestering her so-called 'brother', acknowledging him with just a swift, cursory remark, and jumping to conclusions in a matter of seconds. She's the whirlwind to Koji-senpai's mountain... although it seems the whirlwind can overpower the mountain.
"She's interesting." he observed. Impulsive, prying... that sort of fiery, reckless character... he might not know this Shou that much yet, but he could imagine... why, and how she is that way. For one can be brave and reckless, or cowardly and reckless, or just reckless. Maybe she believes that going directly to the point, without the pondering and hesitation, is the most efficient way. And maybe he shouldn't presume too much. This was their first meeting, after all, although it seemed she had skittered off at his elder's behest, to 'drink some water'.
"She asked some of the things I wouldn't dare be asking." he commented, in a bit of a low whisper. "Or asked them in that manner that I would've wanted to, but I probably wouldn't dare..." he continued, wistfully. He was slow and gradual, hesitant and considering... and so he could not pull that sort of straightforward approach. Or maybe he could, just a bit. He smirked.
"So, nothing really happened?" he asked, adopting a bit of a playful stance. Koji had been rather sombre about this whole conversation, so maybe Shou's interruption was for the best. "None of the infamous dictionaries?"

"Interesting isn't the first word I'd choose" Koji affirmed, crossing his arms over as his young cousin departed for a drink. Maybe it would cool her hot head off long enough to not spit out a flurry of questions, and take it slow, with one question at a time. He shook his head decidedly. Shou was definitely impulsive.
"She asked some of the things I wouldn't dare be asking. Or asked them in that manner that I would've wanted to, but I probably wouldn't dare..."
Nodding, Koji wondered just how far she'd have gone with her questions. It was a good thing he had stopped her before anything embarassing left her lips. For someone so small, she certainly had a big mouth, and a great deal to say. Usually an answer to a question no-one had asked.
"So, nothing really happened?"
There was also that. He hadn't said much about anything, let alone how his lunchtime with Kyou had gone. Truthfully, Koji was fishing for things to say. It was... Awkward, to say the least. He liked her, she knew it, and thanks to the abscence of Ryou, someone who Koji would have been glad to see there if only to allieviate the fact that the two were eating lunch together, alone, in a quiet spot. Anyone could have assumed. People seemed to do such things in school, with startling frequency.
They had talked. Though not about a great deal other than most things not related to them being alone together. Aspirations in life, things they liked to do. Of course, he avoided speaking about his family, something that might have seemed rude to Kyou, He would certainly want to re-do this day over, but alas, such things were not in his power to do.
Letting out a solitary huff of a chuckle, Koji smiled. People only ended up on the wrong side of Kyou's many dictionaries if they had somehow aggrivated her, or mistreate her 'little' sister Ryou in the wrong way. Perhaps Kyou could cut her locks short, and pose as Ryou, to get rid of some of the idiots. They were identical twins after all. She merely needed to disguise her curious violet eyes with colored contact lenses. Koji thought Kyou would look good with shorter hair. But to cut her distinctive long hair down to such a length would be quite an undertaking. Besides, in principle, he didn't really care what length her hair was.
"No dictionaries, no. I do wonder where Fujibayashi-san gets them all from. She can't possibly keep them all on her person, or in her bag. Regardless, it's only people who piss her off that earn one." Koji explained, curious himself as to the source of Kyou's weapon of choice. Did she have more pockets than one would think? Had she selectively stockpiled them in key locations? Whatever force was at work behind her seemingly unlimited dictionaries, it was certainly effective at getting rid of anyone who did, in a brief lapse of sensible thought, irk the fiery girl.

"Hmmm..." the Mizukami murmured.
He looked at the direction whence Koji-senpai's cousin had skittered off. The girl had been with them for but a short while, but she did know... well, maybe she did not, but she definitely did it... how to make an impression. He had gone through her more obvious characteristics, though that may be just a facade, and people can be different depending on who they are dealing with.
She seemed affectionate to her... older relative, in a frisky, finicky way. "What does she think of Fujibayashi-senpai?" he absentmindely asked the question in his mind. He liked to observe, but this girl might like to meddle.
Koji took his little verbal poke a little too literally, though indeed, it was one of the things that not just the eternally curious sophomore, but perhaps a sizable portion of the student body wondered about, though few of the, erm, 'victims' and 'witnesses' had the nerve to talk about it; Fujibayashi Kyou's expertise in throwing paperbound projectiles.
"I'm more interested in why dictionaries are her... ammunition of choice." the lowerclassman declared, slowly. "They are probably just the right consistency to be nonlethal... and durable... but there are... probably similar objects that are more at hand." He paused, exhaling silently, unknowingly tapping his chin with a finger. "I guess I do wonder where she keeps them." he conceded, looking sheepish at his conclusion.
Then he remembered a detail Koji had said a while ago; he'd been a bit focused on the subject of Okazaki-senpai that he missed it. "Fujibayashi-senpai wants to be a kindergarten teacher?" he prompted. It somehow didn't fit his image of Fujibayashi Kyou, though of course he only knew her from rumors, and now, from Koji, and to top it off, she was a girl, and girls can be hard to figure out. But it would explain why she uses dictionaries...
He felt a little more courageous now in asking, after this 'Shou-chan's' little onslaught, though he was still trying to be considerate. Perhaps talking it over would give Koji a bit of peace of mind.
They were now at the staircase, and after descending it they would be off to the campus grounds and through the gate and home. "We'll wait for your cousin?" he inquired. He wondered up to what point they can share their journey homebound.

"Mmm? Oh, the two haven't met... A good thing I think," Koji replied scratching the back of his head. He had to admit, in their conversations, Koji had made Kyou out to be something angelic. As if she shoud descend from clouds in an immaculate chorus clad in the finest gossamer. In reality, most people thought she should be reaching up a clawed hand from a fissure in the earth, eyes ablaze demonically.
"I don't think they'd get on. Shou is the kind of girl that can get under your skin easily when she wants to, And Kyou," He added, pausing for a moment, until his friend had interjected with a question of his own, "I suppose her weapon of choice is easy to conceal."
Though relatively harmless, Koji had seen the older Fujibayashi twin lob a dictionary hard enough to split bark and embed itself into a tree, terrifying a small flock of birds nesting in it. Such was the price to pay for irritating her sister. Ryou was a rather cute girl, and men boys were overly keen to make advances on her, not realizing she was easily flustered. Their persistence usually resulted in the forcible insertion of a literary product into their face, or a deft kick if Kyou was not armed to the teeth with her books.
"Fujibayashi-senpai wants to be a kindergarten teacher?"
Caught a little off-guard by Ayumu's question as he visualized a thesaurus hurtling towards a poor (or not so poor) soul at a blistering state, Koji cleared his throat. It was a rather odd career choice. However, considering how much the girl cared for her sibling, her nurturing side would very much befit a teacher.
"I thought the same thing at first. But it's a perfect job for her." He asserted. Koji was sure that Kyou would make a model teacher. It seemed like a very reasonable job to seek. Hence why he himself sought to teach music. He had a great love for it through his brother. It was why he was at Hikarizaka, his musical scholarship. He enjoyed his guitar playing, but he was quite able with a piano too, though he was quite out of practise.
Before he knew it, he and Mizukami were at the precipice of the first stair, leading them off-campus, and to their respective homes. Of course, Shou was cooling herself off with a drink. As much as he would've enjoyed walking home with his cousin, her constant questions, especially on a day like today, were not as welcome as they wold normally be.
"We'll wait for your cousin?"
Koji shook his head. Shou was quite capable of walking herself home as she did on most days when she and Koji parted ways, she to head downtown to Jun's apartment, and he back home with his mother and step-father.
"I think it's probably best she cool down a little more. She'll only want to ask a bunch of questions about my dat... Ah, lunch with Kyou." He said with a little, two-beat chortle. He nearly said date. As much as he would've liked it to be, it was a simple meeting of friends for lunch. Nothing else. Nothing else. He had a long ways to go before he could ask the radiant Fujibayashi out on a date. Perhaps that would've been better instead of outright confessing. What was done was done, and he felt a lot more comfortable with himself getting it off his chest. [/blockquote]

Under your skin? The Mizukami wasn't completely sure what exactly Koji meant. Did it mean his cousin can be very irritating when she wanted to, or was he using too mild an adjective? And then, there was the older Fujibayashi's temper... Well, if this Shou-chan wanted Koji and Fujibayashi-senpai together, she'd better hold her own temper... the second-year surmised.
He decided not to comment further on that topic; after all, he knew next to nothing about Shou and Fujibayashi Kyou, apart from what he overheard from his gossiping classmates, and from Koji-senpai's testimonies. While he had good reason to trust the latter, both accounts were colored, but in different ways... I will probably only know what Fujibayashi-senpai is like if I meet her. Then again, some people are completely different when it's somebody different they're talking to.
Their discussion went to the senior's career choices. Kindergarten seemed to be... well, kindergartners can be rather rowdy, and fragile, at the same time... he wondered if those youngsters can handle a hardbound book or two. Then again, maybe the flying dictionaries and thesauri were reserved for infidels of ages higher, and like he had thought just a while ago, some people have different demeanors for the different people they meet, strangers and friends, male and female, older or younger.
"I wonder if you would have said it's the perfect job for her... if she had mentioned a different occupation." Biases, biases. "No offense meant, Koji-senpai."
Date. The younger boy had to smile for that retracted word. The girl seemed to have all his questions, and the nerve he lacked to ask them, to boot. Perhaps because they're... close.
He'd never really been close to his relatives, except perhaps for her little sister, and it wasn't like they could talk about people they liked, in detail; their perspectives would be a little out of sync. Koji had the blessing of having someone close to him, in blood, in age, in heart... though the white-haired lad guessed it could be troublesome as well. To each his own share...
He made for the stairs.
"You're trying to escape her, aren't you?" he poked, at his upperclassman. "Then let's go." He grinned.
