The sound of the rain pounded on the concrete like a drum. Hanako simply stood at the entrance-way, in awe of the performance in front of her…and realizing she didn’t bring herself an umbrella. She had to admit, however, that it was basically her fault. This morning she had forgotten to check the weather, and it had looked clear so hey, she didn’t need an umbrella. Then, as she tended to do, she had been in the library reading when it started to sprinkle a little. Having no real rush to get anywhere, she had planned on waiting it out till it went away. Of course, as they say, the best laid plans of mice and men often go awry.
As usual, she got so engrossed in her book she had failed to notice the storm picking up instead of going away. It was obvious now that what short window of time she had time to get home safe and dry had passed by her completely unnoticed. All that was left was the torrent in front of her. Even the complimentary umbrellas the school provided for such occasions were gone, other, more responsible students having already taken them. Even worse, she couldn’t continue to just wait it out. It was already pretty late by now, the sun starting to reach the horizon. If she waited to leave any longer, it would be dark out. The only thing worse than walking in the rain was walking in rain in the dark.
Absent any outside intervention, it looks like she was going to have to simply accept her fate. Hopefully her bag really was waterproof…

Droplets of rain pounded against the pavement, distant thunder sounding every so often. It made everything look dull, as if the saturation had been turned down on the world. There was also a high possibility of a storm. It wouldn't be a particularly bad storm, and going outside wouldn't be life-threatening, but staying indoors would definitely be better. Unless, of course, someone wanted to be drenched and sick for whatever reason.
Momoko pouted and twirled her umbrella around absentmindedly, approaching the entrance of a school. She had planned on going out with some friends. They were going to go see a film, but it looked as though they would have to take a rain check (no pun intended) on that. Well, no matter. They could always see one tomorrow. It wasn't the most horrible thing in the world.
As she got closer, she noticed someone standing there. A girl. She had pale skin and dark purple hair that reached her waist. She was standing in the entrance-way, making no signs of moving. Momoko wondered why she was just standing there for a moment, but then realized something — the girl didn't have an umbrella. Oh, how awful! Momoko herself had one because she checked the weather report today, although she definitely understood how someone would think that they didn't need one, and the ones that the school provided must've been all gone.
"Excuse me?" she asked, approaching the girl. "You might catch a cold if you walk in the rain... Would you like to share an umbrella?"

After standing there for quite some time, it was evident that the weather was not going to improve. It was still coming down rather hard, and it really was starting to get way too late to keep just standing there. Curfew wasn’t for a few hours, but it’d come eventually, and there was still dinner to eat. Taking a deep breath, Hanako braced herself for making a run for it.
Fortunately, someone intervened.
Hanako turned around, letting out a small “yip”. The sudden twist would, for just a moment, show her scars as her hair fell out of place. She hadn’t heard the girl approach, and the sound of her voice was magnified by how quiet everything had been. It was startling, to put it simple.
Looking over the girl, Hanako didn’t quite recognize her. She vaguely recalled seeing her around, and the patch on her uniform suggested first year student. That would explain why she didn’t know her. Still, she was willing to take help from even a stranger in this situation, as long as it wasn’t too much of a burden.
”O-oh, thank you for your offer. I live in the dorms, though, so I hope that isn’t going out of your way,” she said, working to readjust her hair, once again covering up her appearance. It had been brief, but she still hoped that the girl didn’t notice or would at least not say anything. Still, as she finished putting her hair back in place, she began to fiddle with the end of her bangs just a little, anxiously awaiting a reply.
