Proposal: Time Reset

Atena, Vivo, and I were discussing our time system. As we all know, Dango Daikazoku uses a time system to keep organization and chronology among threads. We have no set system for time passing, instead moving the time frame based on a general sense of consensus among members.

Note that we are primarily in the month of June right now. Clannad started somewhere in April. This means that, in the entirety of the site history, we have only passed two months. The majority of that time has been during "old Dango Daikazoku," before our revival. The time has moved, but not much has happened. No Clannad plots have been started, and nearly all of our old OCs have moved on. The current time frame does not benefit anyone here, really. It's still an important system; without it, some threads would take place in winter and others in summer. It's a good idea to keep a general sense of time for our site, but the current time is "a time of the past." Pun not intended.

I propose that we reset the time frame back to April. This will not affect your characters or threads; we will treat it as if they had still happened, but at "an undetermined point" in the past. This will, however, give our site and new OCs a fresh start. It also gives people who have picked up canons since our revival a chance to work with the time frame for things that have been missed. (Such as the Founder's Festival, which is important in Fuko's arc.)

I'm staff on this website, but I'm not bringing this to the table as a new decree. I'm bringing this forward as a fellow member, because I am curious of what you all think about it. Do you like this idea? Do you dislike it? Does it not really matter to you? Please let me know in this thread!

I've actually wanted something like this before, although more specifically I was in favor of resetting character relationships and whatnot, along with the time frame.

Still, a time frame reset, even if it leaves OC character history intact, is something that I can get behind. Like Legend said, we could have some events and arcs again that have already passed, which is a good thing, in my opinion, too; besides the Founder's Festival and Fuko's Arc, there's also Tomoyo's election (if we get a Tomoyo >.>).

So, yeah. I'm definitely in favor.

I reached a problem with Karu regarding relationships. Everyone he knew from "old Dango Daikazoku" has disappeared. He still has development/history of these characters, but since they're no longer around, it leaves a big hole in what I can do with him. It's limiting. I ended up dropping Karu because of this. (A new character for me is on the horizon but this is essentially why I haven't RP'ed recently.)

So, I'm not opposed to resetting relationships for people who want it. I'm sure I'm not the only one who had the above problem. However, rather than enforce a reset like that on the whole site, it could be something of which people have to opt in. This way, newer OCs like Last's can keep their relationships so far, but older characters like Saz's (or mine if I were still using him) can reset.

I wholeheartedly agree with this idea. When you proposed it earlier, I didn't actually have a say in the matter (Still don't) but I can confirm that a reset site, or one that has seemingly just started, would be appealing to new members. Still, I might opt for Gourlay to have his previous interactions dropped, if only because he didn't have many and I didn't rp him to his full potential when I Rped with him at all.

So, yeah, definitely in favor of this!

Well, I've pseudo-reset some of Ryou's development, since certain characters aren't around anymore, but I guess it would be unfair to Iryna and Akira to reset their bit of Ayumu's. So many people have come and gone... ah, I'm getting a bit too melancholy.

Resetting with people who are still here allows for old thread ideas to be rehashed, but I guess that sort of thinking just comes from me trying to defibrillate my muse at times.

I would like to say that Iryna has already gone quite far, so I don't really like to set her back to square one. I also have plans for Akira.

Akira, Legend's idea is resetting the time frame; it was more my idea to reset character relationships. His idea moves back the months, with everything that happened between characters that still exist, like with Ayumu and Iryna, having happened instead at an earlier date.

I'm game for it. I think it'd be a rather good idea judging by the points brought up, not that I'd be against it anyway. Let's do the time warp again~!

Well, since it seems to be unanimous, I went ahead and set the sidebar time to April, 2003. Click the time on the sidebar to be provided with a calender of that month.

Additionally, if anyone would like to have their character relationships formally reset, PM me with the character names you want reset. I will make a post with a list of all the "formally reset" characters at a later date.
