The staff here at Dango Daikazoku have recently discussed a new set of protocol for approving canon characters. Flame has agreed to be the first to try this new system with his Kyou.
We have dubbed this new protocol the "Trial System."
In the Trial System, people who decide to take up canon characters do not have to write an application like we used to require. Instead, they write only a scene using their character. This scene is then reviewed by staff, and if they deem it at an acceptable level of quality and accuracy to the character, they will allow the player to enter "Trial Mode." Once this has happened, the player can start posting as their chosen canon. However, they will be given advice and tips by staff along the way. After a given period of time, the player's performance is assessed. From there they are either given an official approval, given more time to work on their characterization, or in some cases, rejected.
This new system has been set into place for two reasons. First, the personality and history sections in our current application are redundant for canon characters. Anyone who has read the visual novel, seen the anime, or even researched on the Clannad wiki can make out these details about the characters in Clannad. Our applications they tend to be paraphrased -- or, at the least, end up being very similar -- to other summaries of the characters. This wastes the applicants' time to write and the staff's time to review. Secondly, by using a roleplay sample and trial period, we get to the heart of what makes a good canon roleplayer: their passion and accuracy to their character. A personality and history section can only say so much about how well someone can perform. Thus, we believe an "on the job" approach would be more beneficial in determining their performance.
If you have feedback to offer on this announcement, feel free to leave it in this thread!
