Description:

Kotomi is the only child of famous researchers Koutarou and Mizue Ichinose, and in her own regard, is somewhat an infamous name, at least in school. At a little over five feet, and two inches tall, Kotomi is slightly shorter than the average Japanese girl in her age group. Kotomi is of a relatively light build of about one hundred and five pounds, with quite pronounced curves, and a slightly disproportionate bust relative to the rest of her body. Her long waist-length hair is of a navy blue color, appearing as a shade of purple in some lights. Kotomi has it held up in small pigtails at the top by four red baubles. Her hair style is quite chaotic, having been uncut for many years, resulting in an uneven length in places. Regardless, it does conform to one direction, and is not unkempt.
Kotomi's large, bright eyes are an odd light purple, displaying a childish innocence, and youthful exuberance within them, key to reading her emotions, wide, and alert, seemingly twinkling with energy when she is at her happiest, or half-closed, tearful and subduded when at her worst. The rest of her facial features appear delicate, and petite, like a porcelain doll. Her small mouth is often hanging ever so slightly agape in a quizzical look, usually when idle banter is involved, or pursed in moments of intense thought, as is the norm for Kotomi when reading one of her many textbooks in her proverbial fortress of solitude.
Kotomi's dress code outside school, consists mostly of unassuming, unrestricting blouse tops, and skirts, crossing a much wider color palette than simple monochromatic tones. On occassion, she will wear good dresses, much like the ones her parents would buy for her. When at school, Kotomi dons the standard third year female uniform, wearing a dark blue turtle-neck sweater underneath, and knee-high blue socks to join her school loafers.
Personality:

Kotomi's penchant for reading every book in sight, coupled with her natural intelligence, has made her school grades in the top ten in Japan for every single subject. Full of knowledge, that some may find irrelevant or confusion, Kotomi is only too happy to share that information with anyone willing to listen. Her grades are so far above and beyond that of the school's curriculum, that Kotomi is exempt from attending classes, save for tests, unless she chooses to attend. Kotomi prefers to coop herself up, alone in the school library, surrounded by very advanced textbooks, and many foreign language books, expanding her already impressive knowledge. Her scarce appearances in class has resulted in little, to no interaction with her fellow classmates, and since she is not explicitly required to attend class, Kotomi has none whom she can call friends. Her lack of people skills leads some to think her a shy, bookish type, more concerned with studies than interacting and socializing with others. However, Kotomi is more than capable in engaging in conversation with others, it is merely the subject matter Kotomi chooses to discuss, such as complex scientific theories, or foreign language, that may lead to people to frustration, or simply walking away.
Despite her reclusive nature, Kotomi is very friendly towards others, greeting those who can draw her attention with a warm, cheerful smile, though getting to this step is difficult, as Kotomi will only answer to "Kotomi-chan", ignoring completely any other attempts by others to speak with her, which is the cause of most of the frustrations, and her lack of friends. Kotomi has no real grasp of how to properly converse with someone, failing to identify humor and sarcasm, as well as having some difficulty in referring to the correct person during her rare moments of conversation outside of the library.
Kotomi's childlike naivity, and socially withdrawn nature, is a direct result of her mother and father's tragic deaths, which completly shattered her happy world. Kotomi placed the blame, squarely on herself, believing her selfishness, in wanting her parents to stay, resulted in God taking her parents from her as punishment. After the passing of her parents, Kotomi began to surround herself with books, retreating into a comfort zone, where she would no longer lose someone close to her. Dedicating herself to being as good person as possible, and an exceptional student, Kotomi's plea to have her parents returned to her went unanswered to this day. She is not particularly close with her legal guardian, an associate of her parents. Believing him to be a "bad man" because he brought the news of her parents' untimely end to her, Kotomi thinks that this something that no good man would do.
History:

Kotomi was born as the first and only child of famous scientific researchers, Koutarou and Mizue Ichinose. Doted on greatly by her parents, who would often tell her how cute she was, and for why she was named. Raised lovingly by her parents, she was taught the beauty of the world, and introduced to the world of knoweldge. Kotomi loved her parents very dearly, caring more for them, than any item they would give her to show their affection for their child. Kotomi cared so much for her parents, that she would often choose to spend time with them, instead of spending time with hypothetical friends.
Kotomi was often alone at school, only a young girl, she was already reading at a level beyond that of other students, many of whom simply did not understand her, which distanced her, from them. This made Kotomi feel alone, unable to connect with someone her age, and certainly not on the level she was connected with her loving parents.
However, Kotomi did indeed find herself a friend, or rather, her soon-to-be friend found her. A young boy approached her house as she practised her violin, clutching a butterfly net. This boy was Tomoya Okazaki, who, as a youth strayed into her garden, following a butterfly he was trying to catch. The two became close friends following this, and Tomoya would often visit Kotomi. Whilst the young Ichinose talked to her friend about things she had learned about the world, most of it simply went straight over the young Okazaki's head, though this did nothing to distance the two friends. Tomoya, clearly was very different to the other people she had met.
Shortly before her birthday, Kotomi's parents were called away to attend an important meeting, though they promised they would get her a large stuffed bear as a present. Pleading with them to stay, her parents left for their meeting, leaving Kotomi alone, causing her to declare her hatred for her parents. During her birthday, Tomoya never arrived to celebrate with her, nor did he bring the friends he promised, though this was for reasons known only to he. In his stead, was a strange man who told Kotomi he was an associate of her parents, and that he had come to search the house, explaining to Kotomi, that her parents had tragically perished when their plane suffered a malfunction, and had crashed. Distraught, Kotomi found the papers in her father's study. Despite the apparant significance of the documents, Kotomi, in her deep melancholy, made the decision to set fire to them, hoping it would rid her of her unhappines. The resulting fire, set light to entire room, threatening to make the whole house go up in flames. Tomoya then arrived, to try and rescue Kotomi, but she was far too traumatized to be reasoned with, as the strange man dealt with extinguishing the fire. Following the fire, Kotomi and Tomoya never heard from, or saw each other again. Kotomi had lost everything. Her dear parents, and her only friend in the world, whom she cared greatly about. Kotomi decided that she would wait for him to return one day. She attempted to reconstruct her parents' thesis from every shred of mentioning about them, or their work that she could find. It was after this, that Kotomi made good her promise to study hard, and to be a good person, in the hopes her parents would come back to her, though her perspective had changed. She knew her parents would never return, so she sought to follow in their footsteps, and share with everyone, the beautiful world that her parents had taught her about.
Kotomi's intelligence in school was widely recognized, earning her very commendable grades in the top ten ranking for the country in each and every subject she studied. Kotomi was eventually given exemption from her classes, as she was clearly studying at a level beyond that of which the school taught. She was allowed, however, to pursue her studies in the library, engrossing herself in as many books as possible, being as selfless as possible, upholding her promise. She was not on good terms with her parents' associate, though he did claim to be Kotomi's legal guardian, upkeeping the Ichinose home, but as far as Kotomi was concerned, he was not a good man.
During her third year at high school, Kotomi became somewhat of an acquaintance to another student who didn't grow frustrated with her nature. He was named Kichiro. Though the boy harboured an attraction towards Kotomi, she remained completely oblivious to his true feelings, simply seeing him as a bright, kind boy, who was not repulsed by her nature, someone she could become friends with.

The library was quiet today. Only six people, so far had came in, and left, averaging a time spent in the library, of four and a half minutes each. It was just another day to Kotomi, who sat, busying hersef with a quantum physics texbook. She was currently tackling wave particles, and so engrossed in the book she was, that she failed to notice a newcomer in the library. Another female student, about her age. She was clutching a paper in both hands, and apprached the distant Ichinose.
The two students were silent, with Kotomi, not deigning to look up, to see who was casting a shadow over her, and her book. She continued to flick through the pages, absorbing the information like a sponge.
"Excuse me..."
Continuing on, Kotomi scanned the next page, blissfuly unaware of the other girl hovering above her, or her attempt to grab her attention.
"Ichinose-san?"
Again, the girl's words fell on deaf ears. Suddenly, Kotomi drew a sharp breath, her eyes widening as she did so. This startled the other student, who was now clutching her chest, her heart thumping away at speed. Kotomi had drawn a pair of scissors, and began to neatly cut a small section of the page she was reading out. She placed the small rectangle of paper into her bag, and continued onto the next page, primed to cut again.
"Oh, Ichinose-san. Please don't do that!" Cried the other student. This, it seemed, was enough to grab Kotomi's attention. Looking up, Kotomi stared up at the girl, completely unaware of her vandalizm of the textbook. Granted, there were very few students who would be able to understand the nature of quantum physics, but it did not matter if the book was full of pictures, or lines of complex mathematics. Vandalizm was vanalizm, and this student had to inform Kotomi, whether she knew or not, that cutting up things that did not belong to her were wrong, and the consequences could be dire.
"If the librarian catches you doing that, you could get into big trouble..." Informed the student, who looked around to ascertain the librarian was not around. She then handed Kotomi the paper she clutched. Upon examination, Kotomi discovered, that it was a highly-praising letter from one of her teachers, informing her that her most recent test was one of the best that had been seen from her. Smiling, Kotomi rose to her feet, and gave her fellow student a thankful bow.
"Thank you very much for bringing me this." Kotomi said quietly, returning to her quantum physics book. She was pleased her teachers thought highly of her. If her parents were watching over her, she hoped it was making them proud to see how well she was doing. The unknown girl, whom Kotomi had decided was someone in her class, returned Kotomi's gesture. She was probably sent by the obviously busy teacher, to pass on a message. Teachers were busy, it was understandable, but for Kotomi, she was already back inside her own world, mentally digesting the new information she found, without an apparant care in the world.
