Basic:
Akane stands at a short 5 foot 2 1/2 inches, second tallest in her family line up.(Kei's the first.) They all have similar body figures with slight discrepancies between them. Weighing in at 121 lbs, Akane is a girl short of stature but big of heart, seemingly. She has toned calves and hamstrings from her daily workouts and basketball practices and slight muscles in her arms from her p.e. classes as well. Her brown eyes are dual edged, sometimes warm and listening, while at other times sharp and glaring. She has reading glasses that are a dark aqua in color, and contrast with her brown eyes nicely. Akane prefers not to wear them, only when absolutely neccessary. Akane, if not seen with her hair pulled up and concentrating on several things that she does, prefers to keep her hair in two straight pigtails that are low and cover her ears. Her hair is a solid dark brown, with slight red glints in intense sun or conditions similar. The hair color also runs in the family, though Eri has the lightest while Kei and Saki battle for darkest head. When she is stressed, the ends of her long bangs tend to curl.
School:
Akane, whilst not liking her new school uniform much, doesn't complain when she adorns her colder school attire. It consists of a dark blue pleated skirt that Akane finds uncomfortable and white knee-high socks. For shirtwear Akane wears the school blue turtle-neck and yellow blazer coat, adorned with the junior year insignia on the breast pocket. She will swear up and down that the only comfortable part about the whole uniform is the brown penny loafers, though mentally Akane realizes that she does like the uniform (not that she'd tell anyone.) For the warmer season, the uniform changes to a typical sailor-esque uniform with blue and white and once again the insignia in the same location as the jacket. Akane likes the warmer month's uniform more, as it reminds her of the one she wore at her old school. She is seen more frequently in her glasses at school, especially when concentraiting on music or reading.
Outside:
As soon as she can, Akane ditches the school uniform for things more her style. Mostly athletics clothes for practices, Akane ties her hair up into a bun and pins her long bangs back. Off goes the uniform and glasses, on goes a pair of running shorts and a tank top. When not going to practice, Akane slips into something slightly more feminine, but only slightly. She'll usually fix her hair back to the way she wore it to school and put on nice blouses paired with jeans or nice shorts. Akane does like to dress up on occasion, but hardly has time or motivation to do so.
Personality:

Completely Ordinary
Akane considers herself to be average. Sure she knows that she scores good marks and has a knack for music, but she doesn't like to acknowledge it often. She'd be content just letting others notice it. She seemingly loves to help others, is a good role-model and is greatly committed to her academics and extra-curriculars. She can be a bit outspoken for something she believes in, but mostly stays quiet when she can, enjoying the serenity of silence. Classmates say that she doesn't gossip or talk bad about others and can be trusted. People never her see quarrel with Masumi, or get angry at someone. She has this air around her that says, 'I don't care what others think of me.' Hardly anyone can say they've seen her truly yell or sad. It's almost like she has no negative emotions at all.
Or Exceptionally Complicated?
The front Akane puts up works well, she's grown adept at lying and hiding her emotions if she chooses not to express them. If someone could listen to the thoughts Akane had, they'd be startled to say the least, possibly even deny it is her at all. Her mind harbors all the thoughts she left unsaid, every scream held in or sobs she swallowed.
Her mind is where she silently criticizes people, gets frusterated and generally convinces herself of all her failures. For someone who seems so confident in the outside, Akane decieves herself inwardly. She loves competition, though in her mind she's failing against Eri and Kei. She's constantly worrying about how her marks will be, what pieces she needs to perform for music contests and whether she still has enough talent to even play sports.
This doesn't mean that Akane isn't a pleasant person to be around. Most of the time she loses her negative thoughts with one touch of a piano, or one truly kind word from a friend that keeps the evil thoughts away. She tries to recognize good in herself, but with years of convincing herself that she's no good at all, it takes all of her will. Sometimes she falls into a slump, days where outwardly Akane seems off as well. But she forces herself to be merry, after all, what would Masumi say if she saw her like that, her family even?
Aside From That
Akane tries to keep herself happy by trying new things, which is what Akane loves to do. Whenever she tries something it feels like a whole new adventure is unfolding, something to take her mind off of Eri and Kei and herself for a change. It's why she plays so many different instruments, why she has met so many different people. Just like basketball and other sports, trying new things has a way of helping her cope with things she can't do by herself. She has a big heart for her family, and Kei constantly teases her about it, claiming she cares too much and puts the world's weight on her shoulder. Akane, who would like to believe it true, doesn't see how she can be that sort of person. Kei always did have a knack for guessing what Akane was feeling though.
So Basically
Akane loves her family, though they have their quarrels. She'd do anything for Masumi, the sister closest to her in age, even though Masumi doesn't know it. Akane is outgoing and outs on a facade of self-confidence to help stop the negative thoughts she always thinks. She's loyal almost to a fault, and generally will tell you things you need to hear, not things you want to hear. Akane has this uncanny ability to sense things going wrong in others' lives, which is why she loves to volunteer and help others; in doing so helping herself. Everyday Akane gets a bit better in thinking positive thoughts about herself, and really believes a listening ear and music can help solve anything. Though sometimes her frustration comes through her facade, she tries to brush it off later, removing doubt in others about the whole situation. Akane can be outspoken about things she feels strongly about, including her younger sister and music. She has a strong sense of morals thanks to Masumi, but it doesn't mean a prank won't happen now and again. After all, a girl needs her stress relief, right?
History:

Akane was born the third child in the Uesugi family, a large and warm family with as many members as the eye could see. She had two older sisters, Eri and Kei who were about as opposite as night and day. Akane struggled to fit into their cycles of making play and screaming at each other, always either being the scapegoat for the two or the one trying to remedy the tornados that were her older sisters. She was the messenger child, the one sent to ask the parents for something or to worm their way out of trouble. So Akane became used by her sisters. She didn't mind though, she loved Eri and Kei and they grew out of it once Masumi, the fourth daughter in the family was born.
Masumi was in ways like Akane when they were younger, and they bickered about as much as Eri and Kei because of it. They both were 'used' by their elder sisters, and Masumi had a strong sense of morals. So strong that she refused to join in any of Akane's little games she wanted to play on Eri and Kei. Of course thid infuriated little Akane to no end, but she got over it once she got lonely again. As expected, Akane's parents gave childbirth a break for several years as many death in the family occured.
The death of not only her very close grandparents and a friend in a car accident profoundly affected Akane. So outwardly spoken with friends and family, Akane began to close herself up more, talking less and shutting herself in her room. She didn't want anyone to hurt her like the loss of her family did. Her family, bigger and more diverse than ever tried to comfort her. Eri and Kei stopped bickering enough to try to talk some sense into her, but Akane had a stubborn streak the size of russia, and refused to listen to anyone about the deaths and how they were affecting her.
About the same time was when Akane really got the knack for academics, or school. She spent long hours pouring over books from the library, doing her homework and pleading to see her elder sister's work too, in order to get better. Akane felt like she had to be as good as them in academics to fit into her huge family. It wasn't easy though, since Eri and Kei both shared her love for knowledge and were constantly praised for their good marks. SHe didn't give up simply because of that. It was her determination that helped her get out of the shell she cocooned herself up in in her elementary years, and soon she was getting praised alongside all of her sisters. Apparently the knack for academics ran in the family.
Akane didn't want to stop there. SHe had grew content with good grades, and strived to do well in something that she really enjoyed, something that she felt helped her cope with life and all its struggles. She found that in music. Turned out she had quite a knack for picking up instruments as well. Akane was soon teaching herself all sorts of different instruments. From the bassoon to cello and even the trumpet. Everything about music fascinated Akane. From Melodies and harmonies intermingling in classical pieces to the improvisation one could make with five notes from a F pentatonic blues scale. She soaked it up and along with some other extracurriculars, Akane felt her life begin to rise in happiness.
The Uesugi family, finally seeing their daughter come out of her shell, surprised the family with a little boy, Mitsuo who quickly gave Akane another reason to smile. Not long after, during her second year of middle school came the last od the Uesugi clan, a little girl by the name Saki. Finally the abrupt changes in Akane's life were over. Everyone settled down as Eri, Kei, Akane and Masumi took care of the younger children. During this time in her life, Akane began growing closer to Kei, who shared many similar intrests and live views and Akane. Sure they had their spouts and small fights between them, but generally everything got along well. Entering highschool, Akane spent most of her free time volunteering, which was another hobby she picked up, or hanging with some good friends who shared her busy schedule and love of different things, including sports and reading.
As big as the Uesugi family was, the parents provided for them pretty well. Her father worked at a hospital, fixing all that went broken and was generally liked by most of the staff in their small town. Her mother typed for doctors, transcribing notes. It was a job that provided her the luxury of staying at home to care for Mitsuo and Saki. It was as if thing were working out in the Uesugi's favor. Then the unthinkable happened. The very hospital where her father had worked diligently for twenty years had budgets cuts. Due to that fact, her father lost his job.
Soon the family was going to go into debt. Her father was struggling to find a job and the fact that their severance package was about to run out worried the whole family. Her mother resolved to taking on more clients in her business, and therefor it was left to Akane and Masumi to pick up slack around the house and the younger siblings. By now Eri and Kei were off to college, and the expenses they racked up soared the debt higher. Hating to see her family being broken like this, Akane got a job, but it didn't help much, and made homelife much more strenuous.
When her father finally found a job, it was in a different town, so they packed up and moved into a smaller house in Hikarizaka, a town two hours away by train. It was not easy on the family, and especially hard on Akane and Masumi who were losing what they felt was a great life in favor for strangers in another town. They bit their lip and agreed to the move, what choice did they have? To start over was hard on the whole family, but slowly they started to come out ot debt. Eri and Kei agreed to get jobs to help, and soon Akane was looking for one as well before she started her first year as a Junior at Hikariska High. Before she knew it, Akane felt herself aching for the activities she participated in at her old school, and determined to be even more outgoing than before, boldly plunged herself into the school, hoping her shy at heart nature didn't allow her to back out.

When the bell rang t odismiss class, Akane's droopy lids widened quickly at the sound. School...over? She thought groggily as she went through the motions of picking up her bag and continually tugging on the wretched skirt she wore for the uniform. So tired...but I can't afford to miss the school lessons, not if I want to get into a good university! Akane worried as she picked up her books, and hurried to follow the students out the door and spill into the hallway. Heaving a sigh at the thoguht of all she had to do today, Akane walked down to Masumi's class room, 1-D to meet her.
Let's see, I have district music to practice with Yeagura at 7 tonight, basketball club at 5 and cooking starts in fifteen minutes! When am I going to have time to run by home or the store to get groceries for dinner? I promised Mother I'd- Akane's thoughts were cut off by sudden stop of her moving forward and a slight "Oomph." Of another student. SHe'd done it again, worried so much that she became oblivious to her surroundings and ran into some poore defenseless person. Akane was probably a secret menace to society if she kept doing that. A picture of her behind bars flashed though her brunette head, and she shuddered at the thought.
Bending down to pick up her dropped books, she managed to read a title on a book that definitely wasn't hers. She recognized it almost instantly, thanks to her good memory; it was a freshman course level book like they used at her old school. So I ran into a freshman then? Even worse. I've probably skewed their thoughts of me for life. Akane thought as she picked up that book as well to give to the freshman student.
When she looked up to see who she bumped into, she gasped, because not one person was in front of her. THere was no one standing around her like they needed a book. Ran out on me, did they? Akane thought rather snarkily as she grasped the book tighter. Making sure no one was around that needed it, Akane went hurridly down to the office where she could turn in the lost book. It looked new, and at the same time, like it had been used. There was no classroom number on it that Akane could see at least, so she decided the office would be the best route to take. Feeling as though she was ging to miss Masumi before she left for home, Akane was practically running the book down to the office, thankful for her years in sports and good conditioning runs that gave her great endurance when she needed it.
Out of breath, Akane's chest was heaving as she stepped into the office and wrote a note to stick to the book. There was no one inside the room at the time, so Akane was quick and scrawled out a message in the neatest penmanship she could muster at the moment to make sure whoever saw it knew the owner had to be found. Book found in hallway, I think it belongs to a freshman. Please find and return to said freshman immeadiately.
Normally, Akane would find the freshman herself, but with her crazy schedule on tuesdays, she just didn't have the time. Cooking club was bound to start soon, and she was the one leading the club today, her first time since coming to the school. Naturally it was a big deal to Akane, who was just starting to feel like she belonged in this school. Akane believed in the school's power to find the owner of the book though, and after she finished writing the note, she bolted right back up to her sister's room, where a almost empty hallway housed Masumi Uesugi, her freshman sister.
"You're late as always, Akane." Masumi said in a slightly disapointed voice. It constrasted greatly with her wide smile and joking eyes, which made it so Akane knew she wasn't mad or anything. Masumi rolled her eyes and continued to speak. "Who's life did you save through heroic works today?" Masumi asked, something that had never changed about her. Akane knew that Masumi was always going to be her forgiving self. Akane had tested those waters herself when Masumi caught her in a particularly nasty mood one night.
"A poor book in distress, abandoned on the highway of a floor." Akane grinned, playing along with Masumi was one of the things she enjoyed and lifted her spirits. Suddenly being late to cooking club didn't matter as much as she thought. It was good to spend these moments with Masumi while she could, usually she was too busy to.
"On other matters, what do you have to do today?" Masumi asked, getting ready to make notes on a piece of scratch paper. Masumi was great at talking and really getting Akane in a good mood, but she didn't have the best memory when it came to her sister's busy life, so Akane kindly reminded her.
"Cooking until basketball starts. You know when that is, right? At seven is my lesson with Yeagura for district music and then I'll be home around 8 or so. I just don't when when I have time to-...MASUMI!!! You have to do something for me, okay? I know it's a big favor...but I thought since you'll already be going out on your run today and all..." Akane paused, twiddling her thumbs. She hated that she couldn't be on top of things, but Akane just didn't have time to get the groceries. If she was late to Yeagura's one more time, he'd have her head. So once again Akane was forced to do something she didn't like. Asking someone for help. Especially Masumi.
"Masumi, could you please get the groceries for mother tonight? I just don't have the time. Don't worry, I'll repay you back too...maybe to your chores on sunday?" Akane asked sweetly, knowing that Masumi didn't like her chores around the house.
Heaving a sigh, Masumi nodded. "Okay, okay, give me the list and I'll see what I can do." She exclaimed, writing something down on her list; Akane guessed it was aobut groceries. Grinning, Akane took the grocery list out of her binder and handed it to Masumi.
"Thanks a ton, sis! I really owe you! Cooking starts pratically now, so I'll be on my way, okay?" Akane asked as she started to walk past Masumi. Masumi only nodded and gave her a thumbs up. The two sisters walked on in opposite directions. One rushing like she always does, and one wondering when the other will slow down enough to realize who she is.
