After the failure in finding a second knife for Tomoyo, Fuko was soon lost within her own little dream world, completely oblivious to everything that was going on around her. Not Tomoyo’s attempts to talk to her, or her moving around, or even the approaching movements of Kyou. No, Fuko was completely lost in her mind, starfish dancing in her head. This oddly common occurrence was a difficult state for Fuko to escape. It almost always required an outside source to intervene to save her from her fate of standing there in rapturous delight of the adorable starfish.
A slight tug on the bag of starfish, however, soon brought Fuko back to a semi-state of full consciousness. Her starfish were in danger, but by that point she had spotted Kyou in her peripheral vision and began to hear what the girl said. Some random carving of a star!? Did the girl not see that these were the epitome of cuteness. Stars were okay, but they were mere shadows to the pride of adorableness that was a starfish! Of course this had seemed to be a common mistake, so she couldn’t really be mean about it. No, a good starfish fan taught those who failed to see their greatness, not berate them. Education was the key here! This started off with Fuko pointing at Kyou….
”Fuko understands why you made this mistake, but now I shall begin to correct it,” with that she held the starfish up to Kyou,”Notice the rounded curves of the arms, and the adorableness of its shape. A star can never live up to the pure cuteness that only a starfish truly has.”
Satisfied, Fuko nodded to no one and simply brought the starfish closer to her. The memory of the bag being tugged had just about faded (she was in a daze anyway), and so the memory of the situation at hand soon formed. Tomo-chan was still there, and they were supposed to be handing out starfish. Seeing as the girl had confused the starfish with a star, it was safe to assume that Tomo-chan had not handed her one yet. Once the introductions were finished with, Fuko was quick to work on rectifying that situation. And of course, she was to be polite enough to introduce herself as well. After all, she was a mature person, right?
Pulling out a starfish from her bag, she handed it up towards Kyou of 3-E, this time as an offer of a gift instead of a demonstration. This time, instead of acting as a zealous missionary for starfish, Fuko was almost like she was either pleading or bargaining with Kyou as she began to talk with her. After all, her goal was to get the girl to accept the starfish. By this point she had almost completely forgotten about Tomoyo being there. Her mind was completely set on Kyou.
”I’m Ibuki Fuko, and I wish for you to have this starfish. In return I hope you will attend the wedding of Fuko’s sister whenever the date is set for it.”

Sakagami Tomoyo______________________________________________________ Fuko was still unresponsive, but Tomoyo swore she observed the smallest hint of awareness stir in the girl’s posture when she gave a tug on the starfish-filled bag.
Her attention shifted to the sound of footsteps echoing down the hallway, alone. Tomoyo turned her head to look and discovered that it was a senior student, and more specifically, Fujibayashi Kyou. Sakagami Tomoyo always tried to make it a point to remember students’ names, especially those in leadership positions. She wondered if she was staying after school for anything, but the question was just a mere passing thought. If her memory was correct, Kyou was a class representative for… one of the senior classes, obviously. She just couldn’t remember which one right now.
“Starfish? That’s what those strange wooden carvings are?” Fujibayashi asked. She must have heard Tomoyo talking to Fuko, or just to herself, since Fuko was pretty much unresponsive. “Doesn’t resemble a starfish to me. I thought it was just some random carving of a star…”
Tomoyo nodded once, making a mental note of the Kyou’s class, 3-E. “Mhm. Yes, that’s right,” she confirmed her own name. Tomoyo’s blue eyes traveled to Fuko’s starfish-filled bag. It was understandable that one would think the carvings were just stars and not starfish. After all, they… didn’t quite look like starfish besides the general shape. “Well, I can see why you would think that. They are missing the—“
She was surprised when she saw Fuko’s pointing finger come into view, pointed straight at Kyou. Fuko was out of her trance, it seemed, and was already going on about the distinctions between starfish and normal stars. Tomoyo didn’t want to continue mentioning the details that the “starfish” lacked, now that Fuko was no longer dazed. She’d already accepted the fact that they were starfish a while ago, anyway. Plus, she supposed one had artistic reign to do as they pleased…
Tomoyo just stood there and let Fuko talk about how starfish were undoubtedly cuter than stars. She gave the purple-haired Kyou an appeasing smile, as if trying to apologize for Fuko’s natural oddness.
She was almost worried that Fuu-chan would enter a weird dreamy trance again, but fortunately, it wasn’t long before Fuko got right down to the task at hand and presented a starfish to Fujibayashi. Once she was finished explaining the reason for it, Tomoyo added on, “I know it might be a strange request, but she’s been working very hard to make her sister’s wedding a success.” She doubted that would help persuade anyone to attend a stranger’s wedding, since that in itself was quite a high request, but Tomoyo hoped that this girl would be considerate enough to at least accept the handmade gift.

I'm in the business of misery, let's take it from the top. She's got a body like an hourglass that's ticking like a clock. It's a matter of time before we all run out. When I thought he was mine, she caught him by the mouth. I waited eight long months, she finally set him free. I told him I can't lie; he was the only one for me. Two weeks, and we had caught on fire. She's got it out for me, but I wear the biggest smile. Well, Kyou certainly had to say that things were turning out to be... Rather strange. She was being lectured by what looked like... A sophomore? Seriously? She'd just said she'd mistaken it for a star but now knew it was a starfish already, so... Was there much point in this short little girl lecturing her? Kyou could attribute it to only seeing it at a distance and therefore making such a mistake. Thankfully... Kyou had a really good poker face, and didn't let her somewhat condescending attitude show.
”Notice the rounded curves of the arms, and the adorableness of its shape. A star can never live up to the pure cuteness that only a starfish truly has.”
Okay, whatever, Kyou thought, but didn't say out loud. Instead, she gave Tomoyo a look that clearly said, "Is this girl nuts, or something?" Hopefully Tomoyo would get the message and at least provide some form of aid... Though most likely not. Thankfully, Tomoyo's statement before Fuko had started lecturing her had somewhat pointed out that fact... Because the "starfish" actually only resembled the shape... Hence the star-starfish mistake. Because a starfish was in the shape of a star. Hence why it was called a starfish in the first place. Jeez, she was thinking about this way too hard. Her hair was going to frizz if she kept thinking so deeply about this.
Soon, however, a starfish was... Essentially, shoved in her face. Despite being overly sarcastic most of the time, Kyou knew how to follow the high road every now and again... Which generally incurred a nosebleed. Whatever, she'd deal with whatever came at her for the time being... Thanking whatever great spirit had given her such an ability, Kyou put on her best smiling face and accepted the starfish gratefully, at least. It was a gift, after all.
”I’m Ibuki Fuko, and I wish for you to have this starfish. In return I hope you will attend the wedding of Fuko’s sister whenever the date is set for it.” Kyou was actually surprised by Fuko's request... She was giving out these wooden carvings as invitations for her sister's wedding? It was strange, but at the same time, Kyou could see the dedication behind it. That changed her viewpoint almost completely... Almost. She still thought the girl was a little pushy with the whole it's-not-a-starfish thing, as well as the fact that she was inherently strange, but that was a minor thing to deal with.
“I know it might be a strange request, but she’s been working very hard to make her sister’s wedding a success.” Tomoyo's statement reinforced it more. Holding the carving up, she looked it over thoroughly... There were nicks where a carving knife had caught, and the carving looked worn... But, obviously, it was handmade. She glanced down at Fuko again, noting the bandages on her palms... Working hard. She'd been working hard by making these carvings by hand. It was a touching thought... And opened Kyou's eyes a little more to what was going on. She looked between the carving, to Fuko, to Tomoyo, and back again.
"You mean... You're making these by hand? Just for your sister's wedding?" It was a rhetorical question, and Kyou's tone had clearly changed. She was speaking in a somewhat softer, more feminine way now, rather than the hard, blunt, sarcastic tone she usually used. Well, it wasn't like she had anything else to do, so... She thought it might be a good idea to help these two hand out the starfish. Considering she hadn't seen many people with them - and assuming Fuko wanted to give out as many invitations as possible - they might not have been going well... And Kyou, as the Fujibayashi she was, knew how to at least get the guys to take one. She could either taunt them with the idea of a cute girl, or just beat it into their heads. Hey, so long as it got the message out, it was good... Right?
"That's amazing. Usually I'd just take a random gift and never end up looking at it again, but if it's handmade, it's different, right? It means something totally different... Do you guys maybe want some help giving out these... Invitations?"
Second chances, they don't ever matter; people never change. Once a whore, you're nothing more, I'm sorry; that'll never change. And about forgiveness we're both supposed to have exchanged I'm sorry honey, but I'm passing up, now look this way! Well, there's a million other girls who do it just like you Looking as innocent as possible to get to who they want And what they like; it's easy if you do it right! Well, I refuse, I refuse, I REFUSE!

Fuko, in her blissful state lecturing on starfish, was totally unaware of the fact that at the moment Kyou Fujibayashi believed her to be….weird. Fuko thought it perfectly normal for someone to talk as passionate as she was about starfish. She had also ignored Tomoyo’s look. As far as Fuko was concerned, Kyou was perfectly fine being lectured on starfish protocol. In fact, she thought Kyou was happy being taught the difference. After all, once corrected, she would see the adorableness of the starfish! And who wouldn’t be happy about that!
In fact, she would be so happy that she would automatically accept this gift of a starfish that Fuko presented the girl. This time she was more in-tune with the situation, and say that Kyou was acting kind of hesitant about it. About then Tomo-chan butted in, asking Kyou to take it as well. Fuko held it a little closer to Kyou so she could get a better look, looking a little more joyful about the chances of this succeeding. After all, now she was having two people asking her for it! Only the cruelest of the meanest people could reject something about that. And Fuko had a sense that this girl was not a cruel or mean person.
”Yes, that’s right. Fuko is hoping that all the students in the school will come to the wedding.” Fuko responded when Kyou asked her about it. Fuko noticed the girl had seemed to soften up a little bit in her voice, not that she fully realized the girl had been kind of rude at first. Eventually the girl surrendered and took the starfish! Fuko’s face brightened up immensely as she stood back to see the girl holding the starfish in front of her. She had a feeling it would be double adorable to have this girl holding it.
However, the situation seemed to take a different turn, one even Fuko did not expect for it to take. This girl was offering to help them give out the starfish! Fuko was excited of course to get more help, but she had to remain calm. This girl may have accepted a starfish, but there were some concerns. First, she had mistaken them for stars at first and required a lecture to get the correction made. Fuko stood there for a moment in deep thought, looking between the girl and the starfish before closing her eyes. When she finally opened her eyes again, Fuko gave Kyou a thumbs up.
”It’s possible! Fuko is even more secure in her hopes of getting the starfish hope. The combined coolness of you,” she pointed at Kyou,”and you,” she pointed at Tomoyo,”and Fuko’s own adorableness, no one shall be able to resist it!”
With her spiel done, Fuko soon tried to think of something else that needed to be done. Looking down at her bag, Fuko saw that it was starting to get low. This was the most she had given out in a few days, and for the most part it really was the most she had given out. With these two the rate of takers should be greatly enhanced. They will need more starfish if that was the case. And the day was starting to end. Fuko knew she could stay here, but these two couldn’t…
”Here is the plan! Fuko shall stay here and continue carving starfish, and you two shall carve at home using those as bases,” she said, pointing at their own starfish,”And tomorrow we shall give them to all the students!” [/blockquote]

Sakagami Tomoyo
______________________________________________________
The brief exasperated look on Kyou’s face had been a little worrying. Would the senior not be so courteous as to merely accept Fuko’s starfish carving? Whatever expression Kyou previously held was replaced with a smile however, and although Tomoyo couldn’t tell for sure if it was forced or not, she still thought it was a kind gesture that Kyou took the gift. Fuko’s reaction was that of pure joy.
As for Tomoyo, she merely exhaled; glad that Fuu-chan’s dream might just be fulfilled with a bit more effort and many more situations similar to this. Speaking of dreams… Would helping Fuko hand out the starfish help get Tomoyo’s name out so that her campaign for student council president would run a lot smoother once elections rolled around? It seemed selfish to think in such a way, but positive publicity was welcome. Besides, she wasn’t doing this for the publicity. When she offered to help Fuu-chan, Tomoyo sincerely wanted to assist just for Fuko’s sake.
It seemed that Kyou had taken notice of Fuko’s own handiwork, and much like how Tomoyo had been touched when she found out, Kyou too seemed to be affected by the realization. Tomoyo noticed the shift in the older girl’s voice and subconsciously nodded. Fuu-chan’s dedication to her sister’s happiness really was amazing, even if it meant countless cuts and hours, maybe even days, of close work. It came as a pleasant surprise when even Fujibayashi Kyou offered to help in handing out starfish to the student body.
Tomoyo’s first response was to look at Fuko and search for a reaction. After all, it wasn’t her place to be accepting help, as great as the offer was. This was Fuko’s project after all, and she figured Fuko should be the one to call the shots, so to speak. Tomoyo was merely helping out. Besides, why wouldn’t Fuko take Kyou up on the offer? There must have been some strangely obscure thing to consider since Fuko had closed her eyes for a while as if in thought, but when those golden eyes were opened again, out came the words of acceptance Tomoyo had been waiting to hear.
“It’s possible! Fuko is even more secure in her hopes of getting the starfish hope. The combined coolness of you, and you, and Fuko’s own adorableness, no one shall be able to resist it!” The burst of “logic”, if it could be called such a thing, was encouraging at least. If a leader didn’t believe in their own ideas, who could? Tomoyo reconsidered her thoughts. Could a girl like Fuko really be called a leader? Eh… she supposed it was fine.
The plan itself, as stated by Fuko, was that Kyou and Tomoyo would go home and work on carving starfish, using their own starfish as examples, while Fuko would stay at school and do what she always did – carve more starfish. Then they would go to school and hand them out the next day. That sounded simple enough, but Fuko’s words brought Tomoyo to remember the strange things mentioned before.
“The truth is all I do is sit in an empty classroom…” Fuko didn’t go home. She was always at school, all day and all night. “Three years ago I was almost hit by a car on the way back from the opening ceremony. The next thing I know for sure I was here, carving these starfish. And I don’t know why, but I’m not sure my voice could reach my sister…”
Sakagami Tomoyo hadn’t fully believed Fuko at first and it was still hard to believe such a tale, but the thought of Fuko staying at school through the night was heart wrenching. Did the girl ever sleep? Did she even need to sleep? Did ghosts need to sleep? Tomoyo almost mentally kicked herself. Was she really going to believe the rumor about a ghost girl in the school who had been hit by a car? … Honestly, she knew little about the paranormal. If anything, Fuko seemed completely human.
“That sounds like a good plan,” Tomoyo managed to say, despite all the rest of the thoughts running through her head. “I’ll probably need to run over to the crafts store for wood… but that’ll be easy,” she said aloud, more to herself than to inform the two other girls. This time, she addressed Fuko directly. “But Fuu-chan, you really can’t go to your home, can you… ?” Tomoyo realized Kyou probably didn’t know what Fuko had meant by “staying here,” but she felt it would be too complicated to try to explain. Besides, Tomoyo herself didn’t quite understand what was going on.

Kyou was mostly quiet as Fuko spoke, ranting on confidently about how she would be sure to have the entire school come to her sister's wedding. There was also something mentioned about the combined "coolness" of Kyou and Tomoyo, though whether Kyou thought that was a valid reason for them to be able to have nearly everyone show up was left in the air at the moment. Whether it would work was another question, but Kyou wasn't about to voice such a question, anyway.
Fuko then went on to say that both Kyou and Tomoyo would go home and carve more starfish using the ones they'd been given as bases... Kyou glanced over the starfish again. There were nicks where a dull blade had caught in the wood, which somewhat took away from its finesse... Maybe if she could make it shine a little. She'd have to pick up some sandpaper to do that, to make it smooth and free of splinters. It would mean less carving, and probably make her job a little easier. It would take longer to perfect the actual star, though.
Then Tomoyo mentioned Fuko's inability to go home. It finally hit Kyou, what Fuko had said... That she was going to stay here and carve the stars. That certainly wouldn't do... Would it really be right to leave Fuko here like that? Didn't she need somewhere to sleep? Rather than having to stay at the school? Sure, the girl was kind of annoying, but... One of them had to do something about it, right? Kyou might have been seen as somewhat of a blunt person, perhaps rude at times, but she still had a heart.
"We can't just leave you here like that, Fuko," Kyou declared, both hands on her hips after she slipped the starfish into her bag. "Tomoyo, I think one of us should take her home or something. I don't know... I just don't feel right leaving her here like this," she said, her voice dropping a little, becoming softer. So Kyou had a soft side. Was it really that much of a surprise? She hoped not. She knew when to reign in her temper, at least...
"Don't you agree?"
Second chances, they don't ever matter; people never change. Once a whore, you're nothing more, I'm sorry; that'll never change. And about forgiveness we're both supposed to have exchanged I'm sorry honey, but I'm passing up, now look this way! Fujibayashi Kyou’s compassion caught Tomoyo off guard. To offer lodging to someone you just met was generously hospitable to say the least. Kyou was right, though. It felt wrong to leave Fuu-chan at school. It wasn’t that something bad or tragic would happen to Fuko at night in the school. Of course, there would be no creeps stalking the school at night. It was just the mere idea of allowing Fuko to be lonely in the building that was the worst. Fuko would probably just carve starfish through the whole night though, wouldn’t she? Did the childish girl even sleep?
… What a silly thought. Of course Fuko slept. She was obviously human, and since ghosts were impossible myths, those rumors were just that: rumors. Then again, rumors often held a certain degree of truth to them. Sakagami Tomoyo knew that from firsthand experience. Still, no matter what, the underlying problem was that Fuko didn’t have anywhere to go.
The thing was… Tomoyo’s house at the moment wasn’t really suited for guest visits. Yes, she could clean the house a bit and drag out a futon, but she doubted Takafumi and her parents would be very thrilled to have a complete stranger in the house. It wasn’t that they were inhospitable as a family. It would just be inconvenient for them.
After giving it a few moments of consideration, Tomoyo knew such an arrangement would not be possible. “I agree, but unfortunately, I don’t think I’ll be able to take her…” Tomoyo said regretfully. It certainly would have been interesting to have Ibuki Fuko in her home. Her own eyebrows lifted when Tomoyo asked Kyou, “Fujibayashi, are you thinking about taking her home with you?”
She then turned her head to Fuko, as if just now remembering her presence again. “Ah, Fuu-chan… is it alright with you that you might stay with one of us for a few nights?” Even though she put on a smile, Tomoyo didn’t know long those “few nights” would be. Would that be for just a week or less? Until the wedding? Tomoyo wondered what it would be like to have a cute younger sister, but realistically, taking Fuko in would be both un-doable and inconsiderate to her family members.

After finishing her ranting on and on about starfish and her plans, Fuko waited to see what kind of approval her ideas would get from her two companions in this project. Not surprisingly Tomoyo thought it was a good plan, mentioning about needing to get some wood from the craft store. Fuko was going to mention the art room always had plenty of wood; that’s where she got hers. However, she did remember a few times when an art student chased her mad about something. While she had this feeling Tomo-chan wouldn’t have that issue, better not to deal with all these things. There were more important things, like starfish!
However, things soon turned serious as Tomoyo asked if she really couldn’t go home. Admittedly, Fuko never had tried; she just had this feeling that she couldn’t for some reason. She really couldn’t explain it, and she really wasn’t sure of the implications herself. All she knew was she was here, her sister was getting married, and that she needed to make these starfish and bring everyone to the wedding. Outside of that, Fuko really wasn’t sure what was going on. Things like the rumors about a ghost girl never caught her ear outside of a passing remark she quickly forgot. Still, Fuko knew something was strange about her situation, so there was a glimpse of concern as she spoke.
”No, going home isn’t an option for Fuko….” she replied, shaking her head.
At that moment Kyou spoke up about one of them bringing Fuko home or something. Hmmm, Fuko had a strange feeling this was not something one would expect from this girl, but Fuko could tell Kyou was being serious about the suggestion. Still, for now she had to be quiet, to see how this turned out. Admittedly getting to go a nice home, with a soft bed and everything sounded nice. Not that she needed it of course; a person as mature as herself could handle living in the school if needed. Still, there was a glimmer of excitement as she awaited an answer from one of them.
Tomoyo apparently had to reject the offer, leaving Kyou with the baggage it seems. About then Fuko was asked her opinion on it, and as usual she had to at least look serious about the offer. Such a momentous thought had to be thought seriously with much thought, right? Kyou seemed nice enough and accepted the starfish. That scored major points in Fuko. Furthermore, Fuko got a vibe from Kyou, a mixture of cool and bold but some softness, sort of like....a starfish! Starfish had a bit of a rough exterior but soft and cuddly overall! Yeah, living with Kyou would be like living with a human starfish. With that, Fuko gave her approval.
”Fuko is perfectly content with such a thought! As long as the homes are completely starfish friendly!” [/blockquote]

It wasn't a good thing, however, that Tomoyo wouldn't be able to take her. It wasn't that Kyou wouldn't be pleased to have Fuko as a guest; there was simply the issue of whether their grandmother would be all right with it. She wasn't worried about Ryou, as Ryou generally tended to go with the flow on these sorts of things, but their grandmother... Well, considering their familial situation, things could be difficult. She hoped, though, that there wouldn't turn out to be any issues with taking Fuko in for a little while.
"Well... I might be able to. I don't think Ryou would have a problem with it, but I'm not sure about my grandmother," Kyou replied, contemplating it. "Nonetheless, it won't hurt to give it a try. Are you all right with that, Fuko?" She had to make sure it was all right with her guest, after all. Maybe Fuko hadn't taken that much of a liking to her and wouldn't feel comfortable... Which she certainly hoped wasn't the case. She could be scary at times, but most of the time she liked to pick and choose who she'd intimidate.
”Fuko is perfectly content with such a thought! As long as the homes are completely starfish friendly!”
That was a good thing, then, if Fuko was willing to go. "Well, I can't speak for my grandmother," Kyou replied with a short laugh, "But I'm sure my sister, Ryou, will be completely accepting of the starfish." She gestured towards the direction of the front doors from where they were. "It's getting late, and I'm sure everyone should be getting home. Let's go, Fuko."
