Darren Langston
Type: Original
Age: 16
Gender: Male
Sexuality: Bisexual
Crushes: He has none. He knows that all of the kids he sees are straight and doesn't trust them enough to tell them anything.
Face Claim: Edward Elric (Full Metal Alchemist)
Description: Darren Langston looks like a handsome young man, some will stay. He seems to keep himself in good shape, a skinny body, but not very muscular. The look is good, however, for his short body. Unfortunately he only stands at 4'11 and, of course, has a recieved a lot of grief about it from his classmates. But that doesn't bother him as he realizes height is one of the things he cannot control. His skin, as you would expect after his days in the English sun, is a tannish color. He's not pale by any means, but nor does he seem to be black.
His hair is of a wavy kind. It's long and goes down to his shoulders, so he tends to keep it braided in order to keep it from looking like it's a girl's length. Once again, a bit of grief, but he isn't bothered because he likes it this way. It's a natural blonde, but he's tried something different by adding black streaks to it, so you end up with a rather interesting black/blonde colorization. He tends to keep the bangs parted in the middle so that they frame his face in the middle and he leaves a strand of hair up as an antenna on purpose. Some say it's to add to his height, but no one really knows why. His eyes are gold and fierce looking. Sure they can be kind when he wants to signify kindness, but for the most part, there's a fire burning in those eyes. A fire of determination, of courage, of bravery, and possibly of anger.
As per the rules, Darren wears the school uniform without much fuss. Though he doesn't like the way the uniform is colored, having never been much a big fan of the peach coloring for any reason, he doesn't mind wearing the red jacket, white undershirt, blue jeans, or black dress shoes that come as part of the attire. He also likes the school logo. However, when it comes to casual attire, Darren tends to wear a red coat and some sort of black shirt underneath it nearly all the time along with black trousers. He prefers these darker colors and loves to be seen in them. However, he has been seen in other clothing; hoodies, business attire, and actual Japanese clothing is some of the attires he's donned since coming to Japan.

Personality: Darren is a single-sighted kind of guy. To people he doesn't know, he comes off as a sort of arrogant jerk. He's definitely selfish and likes to stroke his own ego. Even though he's not all that and a lot of people would definently know it, he tends to try and take on a tough guy image hoping that people don't mess with him. He's too studious to be labelled as a delinquent, however, and doesn't nearly skip school as much as a delinquent would, so he only gets labeled as a jerk. His inability to speak Japanese well, much less fluently, also causes him some strife as he is somewhat unfit to communicate in the new land.
For the friends he does make, however, you could never have a more loyal guy. Sure he's still rather sarcastic and a bit cynical, but he tries to show that he cares and tries not to be an asshole. So far... his natural tendencies have conquered him. It's hard for him not to be an asshole. As for love, it's a rough issue and one he'd rather not have brought up. Though he's bisexual, he's always leaned a little more towards the homosexual side. He thinks that a lot of the guys in his school are extremely straight and, as a result, is thinking of abandoning all hope for love. Who knows? He might make a nice bachelor, he'd just have to try. Or he might actually end up with a girl instead; things have happened and actually worked out and perhaps the same may do so with him. But when it comes to love, he tries to be a gentleman. If you want a pure-hearted soul, don't look at him. However, if you're looking for a good guy who can show you a good time both in and out of bed, he's a good pick.
Enemies beware; his wrath is mighty. As per his tough guy image, Darren doesn't take too kindly to insults or physical contact. As he's trained with his father in special fighting styles before he moved to Japan, he's all too happy to kick someone's ass if they try to attack him. Insults he tends to either ignore or reply in kind with a scathing comeback. He's privy to either one and doesn't mind however it works. He's a firm believer in corporal punishment, however, and has no problem with beating someone to a bloody pulp if they do so to him or his friends. Things like death or rape is something he has not seen though, so he might get caught in shock before he acts and nobody knows how badly he'd react.

Histoy: Darren Langston was born in the city of London, England, the place in which he spent nearly his entire life. There he was a great youth, well promised and looking at the chances to enter prestigious colleges from Bickenhall College to St. Mary's University. His parents were well known and very well renowned; his father, Lawliet Langston, was a surgeon revered in his craft and well adapted to it. His mother, Catherine Langston, had several books published describing the human mind and giving valuable insight on how to deal with stressful situations such as raising a teenager or bankruptcy. As a result, money was never an issue for Darren and still isn't. He is sent an allowance every week and it is a generous sum, but he is smart with it and only pays for necessities.
Toddler years were the early years in which Darren would soon come to learn that he could only trust his parents, or at least would soon come to think that he could only trust his parents. For Darren did have a playmate named Tyler, but Tyler ended up stealing his cookies. Other kids might not have thought much of this. They might've told on Tyler, got him into trouble, and eventually make up. For Darren, however, it was the beginning of his anti-trust issues. Instead of bringing Tyler to the teachers, he tried to bash Tyler's face in with his fists. He was on the worse side of the beating though and was punished to a higher degree because he started it, both by his parents and by the school. This would set the stage of Darren's reclusive stages.
He learned early in elementary school that only the smart made it in life. The dumb acted out and made it seem like they had the better life, but in the end, they ended up on the streets with nothing. With an intellect like his, Darren would go places if he put himself to work. And work he did. While other students spent their recesses playing around with other children, Darren became a recluse, studying alone. It bothered his parents that he didn't have much of a social life, but, at the same time, they were proud that Darren put so much work into his studies. So they didn't say anything. They let Darren work alone and study alone. He'd ace every test that was given to him and pass all his assignments. Pretty soon... those that weren't mocking him for his genius were trying to cheat off of him.
In Middle School, it was where he learned how to be tough. Despite being a surgeon, his father was a former member of the Secret Air Service, SAS for short. The SAS was one of Britain's top military forces. Darren's father serves a few years as a medic, where he was taught all the finer points of medicine and surgery work and went on to save at least three lives during a robbery with that knowledge in hand, but when his leg was badly damaged in an accident that has been kept secret by the officials too embarassed to reveal it, he was allowed retirement and thus became a professional surgeon. Even he, however, had been taught how to fight in the event that he needed to do so, and thus taught his son a few of his techniques. When Darren came back home from a severe beating caused by his ill will and refusal to let a gang of students cheat off of him, causing them all to fail, his father began to teach him how to fight. As much as he got beat in his first year of middle school, Darren continued to train, train, and train some more. When he came back next year, he was a trained boy. The next time some stupid teenage boy tried to cheat off of him and Darren refused, the boy tried to attack him only to end up slammed back into his seat roughly. Unfortunately Darren was placed in detention, but the boy was suspended for starting the encounter and the rest of the student body knew to leave Darren alone.
After he finished Middle School, he prepared himself for High School and began to think about his studies when the news came in. His father had been given a job by a high paying corporation. The family was to move to Japan. The move shell-shocked Darren, who had no idea who to adapt to a new life, a new culture. Suddenly he found himself dealing not only with his hormones, which had begun in Middle School, but also having to deal with a new lifestyle, a new way of living. Suddenly things were never the same. It seemed to him that everyone there knew Japanese and not too many people knew English. He was admitted into a Japanese High School, yet he was hardly able to communicate with anyone because they all spoke Japanese. Those that he could communicate with tended to avoid him due to his nature.
Suddenly Darren felt more like an outcast than ever before. Despite all his genius, the other students were far ahead of him. He could not understand the language, much less the symbols he was expected to write in. The mathematics and sciences seemed the same as far as numbers went, but due to his inability to read and write Kanji, he found he could not do well in it. Perhaps someone wanted to help him, but he never sought them out. He thought they all viewed him as the class fool. He suddenly began to stop caring about school. His parents weren't around much anymore and it seemed like no one gave a damn. Yet when his parents received his grades, he was counseled. He was lectured. He was told that he would be going nowhere in life if he didn't try. Darren tried to explain that he already did try, but he couldn't make it.
Needless to say, that didn't cut it. He was forced to finish the year of high school there and next year he was sent to Hikarizaka High School, hoping a better environment would help him. Unfortunately he is still trying to cope there.

Another sad day, his first day at the new school. Communication skills? Zero. Resourcefulness? Zilch. Social life? Nada. He was an outcast, a recluse who had never worked to make friends in his own country and certainly couldn't make any in this god forsaken country. The new culture was too hard to adapt to, making him feel like he was lost in some post-apocalyptic civilization that had strict rules and guidelines in order to keep everything intact less the entire system crumble and the people degenerate into anarchy. He saw someone walk by. The guy said something to him in that strange alien language he was supposed to work hard to learn. Deciding to give it a chance, Darren attempted to say something to him.
"Hello... I are Darren and I like to kick balls."
Needless to say, the guy laughed at him and walked away. Darren fumed at the ears, steam practically blowing at them, before he took one of his books and slammed it on the ground. "Damnit! I &*#!ing hate this country!" he screamed, not caring who heard him. Who would understand what he said anyway? All they'd be able to understand is the tone and that sent some of the people that could hear him shying away. He was a madman, he had to be. To slam such a good book like that down... a lunatic if ever there was one. Darren panted with an unknown ferocity lurking out of him. When at last his rage simmered down, he kneeled down, picked the book up, and forced himself to continue the long walk to his new school.
