Following a routine wasn’t a bad thing. It might have been considered a mundane task, but Kotomi didn’t mind things considered unexciting. When things went as scheduled, there was nothing to worry about. For most of her life, she had followed certain rituals. Such a pattern proved a beautiful life she was well accustomed to. Granted, even as a child those patterns didn’t provide much in the term of friendships, but she was happy. But when one thing caused her normal routine to break, her world was devastated. Never again did she want such unwanted mishaps to befall her life, and so she lived close to her routine lifestyle.
Every day she woke up at the same time. She followed the same schedule in the morning for school without fail. She was out the door at the same time as usual. She walked down the same route, and she saw the same things she usually saw before school. Some people passed by her talking with friends. Some people passed her by on a rush to school. And some people took their time as they headed to school. She watched them all moving to their own paces all out of tune with her. It was normal, and she liked normal.
But one little thing could send her normal day off balanced, literally. Her foot hit a rock in her step and sent her off balance. The poor girl stumbled and found herself on the ground over a little mistake. It was quite amazing to think one little insignificant thing being out of place could send her tumbling to the ground. Luckily it was just a little fall to the ground. Everything seemed fairly fine until she got back to her feet. The foot that came in contact with the rock felt odd. It was painful to stand on it correctly.
It was sprained? It was the only logical conclusion she could come up with based on the series of events. Kotomi moaned slightly. She most likely twisted her ankle in more than its normal range of motion during the fall, thus causing the sprain. It was quite troublesome. The pain caused her to move at a considerably slower pace than usual and made her steps feel clumsy as she went uphill to school. There was never a need to rush to school since she didn’t live the life of a normal student, but Kotomi refused to let this little inconvenience disturb her routine. When things happened outside of the realm of normalcy, bad things followed. She refused to let interfere with her schedule. She limped up the hill slowly quite determined o go on with her day as if she were healthy. Injuries like the one she sustained healed naturally. She knew they could be helped with warm pads and wrapping such things fell out of her routine and thus caused a risk in themselves. She didn’t want anything bad to suddenly appear in her life.

She did not see her fall, and she did not see her stand up. She saw her already limping.
Fujibayashi Ryou liked routines as well. While there were good things to be had with the unpredictable... pleasant surprises and refreshing breaks from monotony... there was a certain comfort to be had when things are arrayed in a certain order. So it was that the younger of the Fujibayashi twins was more religious in her following of the schedule, and if there was somebody who would depart later from the house (not necessarily arrive later in school, what with her sister having that secret scooter), it would usually be Kyou.
Their house was a little farther off than most people, and so she took the bus before walking the rest of the way, up the onerous slope. She had thought the uphill climb difficult in her first days of high school, but with the passing of time she, even with her relative lack of athleticism, had accustomed to it; one more point for routine. The morning light and the morning air drifted about the road. She was alone this morning; she saw some familiar faces, perhaps previous and current classmates and acquaintances, and she greeted them with a smile and a light bow, but there were none who walked closely with her, some having their own groups, some having their own business, some content with being alone.
It was not as if she liked being alone; perhaps it was a mix of her sister's protection and her reactive, bashful temperament. She had friends (and a boyfriend, even, although she still wasn't sure how that worked), but she had yet to do something as to suggest that they go to school together; perhaps that would be a good idea, unless, of course, the distances of their homes made the attempt impossible. She was in this vein of thought, besides thinking about the homework for the first subject and Okazaki and Sunohara not yet submitting a certain required form, when she spotted Ichinose Kotomi.
She had told her to call her Kotomi-chan when they had first been acquainted, with the help of Haru; it had been inadvertently her fault that they were forced to confront their feelings, and for that, perhaps, she was indebted to her. She did not understand her yet, and her intellect, along with rumors of it, had intimidated her somewhat, but surprisingly she was nice, if having a different thought process from the average person. Right now, however, she seemed to be heavily favoring one foot over the other, and Ryou did not think it was part of the genius girl's quirks to walk in a strange manner. Nobody seemed to be concerned...
She trotted, with some strain, to the other girl's side. She hoped she was not intruding, in any way, but the pigtailed prodigy might be injured. She had made being a nurse her goal, and while that was still a little far off... she wanted to help. Besides, she could further assess the situation if she was nearer, if she was wrong... she would be happy to be wrong.
"Kotomi-chan... are you alright?"

Her pace was severely altered with the injury, causing a great inconvenience. This was conflicting with her usual day. There had been a recent upheaval of what she came to know as normality. She had been introduced to foreigners, strangers, and even made attempts to make friends with old and new faces. They were scary and new experiences, but she was able to endure them. And while they went against her rather studious days routine, nothing bad had come from them. It wasn’t necessarily a terrible thing to socialize.
Haru kun wasn’t a bad person. He might have not been a genius or a linguist expert, but he was a kind person. She had a piece of mind when around and it allowed her to meet someone like Fujibayashi Ryou without too much fear. Kotomi always worried all the horrible things from childhood might happen again when she introduced herself, especially now that she sent even more time around books others didn’t read. But Ryou chan was nice as well. The fact that Haru kun and Ryou chan liked each other and decided they should be together was nice too. It was always a good thing when people who liked one another were together. She had people she cared about with her whenever she could years ago and it made her very happy. But now…
”Kotomi-chan... are you alright?”
Ryou chan was here. Kotomi stopped as she looked at the girl. Haru kun wasn’t with her, so it seemed a little odd. Ryou and Haru were going to be together, so they should have logically been together. It made her frown slightly. She had hoped her observation of them liking one another wasn’t something she made biased on random variances. She supposed it would have been smarter for her to observe them both in several different setting than proposing something. She should have taken a more scientific approached instead of one biased on looks and guesses. It wasn’t like she was an expert of love.
The girl moaned to herself, calculating her next move. Ryou did ask her a question and Kotomi hadn’t answered. A truthful answer might invoke an emotional response. Since they had a common link between them, Haru chan, then she might insist helping. While Kotomi wasn’t someone prideful, being helped had its own consequences. More and more of her life would fall away from her routine. Soon enough, each day might be something new. Was that really something she could handle? But Ryou chan was a nice person. She didn’t wish to hurt her feelings by lying to her. And if she started to lie, Ryou chan might return to favor. Kotomi wasn’t too sure in which ways Ryou might lie to her.
”Ah…” she exhaled. What was the first step of being social…? There was a blank look on Kotomi’s face as her brain scanned its library of memories. Greetings were the proper response. Her frown turned into a smile. ”Ryou chan. Good morning,” she greeted her with a bow. Greetings were followed up by casual talk and/or compliments. Compliments needed to short but relevant to the situation. ”Lovely weather. You look comfort in summer uniforms.”
She still hadn’t answered the question, but she also hadn’t decided whether to answer it truthful or not. Perhaps she could ignore the question. It was an option, wasn’t it? She briefly remembered that answer questions others asked was an important part of social etiquette, but the book didn’t specify if lying was ever allowed or discouraged. It was quite unreliable and careless for leaving such a broad statement as something important.

She was... taken aback. Mildly, but still.
She had not had many interactions with her fellow violet-haired girl, and even among their few meetings she had to confess that she could not always follow how she thought, how she handled things in her mind. Sometimes she was a child, and sometimes she was much, much wiser, and then sometimes she was both.
"Uh... good morning, too, Kotomi-chan. Th... thank you."
She was sure... that she was limping. She was at a loss, with what to do, what to say, and it was not just her usual nervousness and caution. It seemed... well, she hoped she was not being too assuming, but it looked like Kotomi didn't want to call attention to her limp, and to whatever might be causing it. If something was causing you distress, you tried to remedy it... right?
And her dream had been to be one of those administering remedy. Perhaps it was minor, and perhaps it was major, but whichever it was, Kotomi had not answered her... she wondered how she would react if she pushed it, even if just a little bit. Would that be too forceful? But then, getting it treated... on the other hand, maybe everything has been done about it, already...
She decided she better regret having done something than having not done it. She should try to be more proactive... like her sister...
"Um, I'm sorry to intrude, Kotomi-chan... but are you... your leg..."
"...are you alright?" she repeated, as she matched the limping steps of her acquaintance.

Her mission was accomplished. She had successfully interacted with another student she wasn’t completely familiar with without the help of someone she knew. It was a grand accomplishment in her book. Then again, she did it without the worry of being bullied or teased because Haru had introduced them. She supposed it was an expected victory. But the conversation kept going, which was completely unexpected. The book said greeting and a compliment were good ways to start. But Ryou simply greeted and thanked her before asking something the book never covered. It seemed she would need more study reference.
”My leg…?” she repeated. Kotomi looked down at her leg confused. She was aware she hurt herself but there didn’t seem to be anything in partial amazing about her leg. Was she asking for more information on Kotomi’s leg? ”It can also be referred to as a lower limb. It is approximately seventy-eight point seven centimeters. It composed several bones including the femur, fibula and tibia. The angle of inclination is approximately one hundred twenty-seven degrees which is closer to the incline of an adult while the average teenager’s angle of inclination is typically at one hundred thirty.” She supposed she could go into even deeper detail. After all, the leg wasn’t just composted of bones. There were several muscles and tendons within a human leg. Major arties and nerves were also found within the leg. It was a very important structure.
But before the conversation went any further, Ryou asked if she was alright. That took the conversation back to the examples of the book. The book was in French, so it suggested her say bien merci then kissing both of Ryou’s cheeks. She wasn’t too sure of that bit. She hadn’t seen too many people kissing cheeks. Holding hands with someone was a big step. Could kissing really be done so easily? Kotomi looked down at the ground for a moment. She didn’t want Ryou telling Haru how rude she was. Her level of friendship with Haru was more advanced. He could turn against her or simply forget her like Tomoya seemed to. The purple haired girl frowned for a moment as she balled up her fists. She knew what she needed to do.
”I-I’m fine, t-thank you,” she stuttered before quickly perking Ryou on both cheeks. She stood there feeling horribly embarrassed. Normal conversation seemed so hard for her to grasp.

"Ah..."
Well, this sort of reaction... she was expecting it... but... she guessed expecting it did not make it any less befuddling. She waited patiently as she spouted various scientific facts about her leg, with her thought process somehow missing the context of the 'leg' and the 'alright' in close proximity. It was slightly... frustrating.
"Th-thank you, but..."
She responded to her statement as if it were in two parts... and she further rattled her with a pair of pecks on the cheeks... was that some French custom? Where did she pick that up? She wondered a little how Kichiro managed to deal with her idiosyncrasies. True, Kotomi-chan was not overtly unpleasant, but it seemed she must be perfectly clear with her... and even then, that did not necessarily reassure that she would understand.
"A-anou... Kotomi-chan... what I mean is..."
All throughout these... it seemed as if the genius girl had tucked away the fact that her leg was injured... Ryou knew it should be treated, but... why was she so intent on ignoring it? Would she actually be... disruptive of whatever she was intent on doing, if she pointed out that her ailing limb required attention? There was a touch of dismay upon the younger Fujibayashi's face.
She was willing to put up with her; Ichinose Kotomi, for all her eccentricities, was a good person; what she was not sure was if her following actions would make Kotomi not put up with her.
"...w-what I mean is... don't we need to tend to your leg? Th-the... infirmary..."
