It was Yuka's first day at Hikarizaka Private High School.
The school day had been mostly uneventful. He was a little disappointed, if he was being honest. He'd hoped going to a new school would be more exciting. He didn't know why he expected that. Well, it was probably his fault for assuming it wouldn't be boring. It was still school. It didn't matter whether it was new or not.
He'd managed to get through the first half of the school day without dying from boredom (it was difficult, but he managed). It was now lunchtime. He stood away from the tables, searching for a place to sit. There weren't any empty seats. He was honestly happy about that. He didn't want to sit alone. It would be so boring.
He didn't put much thought before approaching the nearest table. There wasn't many other people there. In fact, it only had one other person. "Hey," he greeted with a polite smile. "You mind if I sit here, or...?" he trailed off as he waited for an answer.

The spring season meant time for new beginnings for optimists, new endings for pessimists, entrance ceremonies for students, and moving old stock into storage for businesses. Of those "new" things only the latter most related to him. He'd managed to do a couple of jobs over the spring break and got paid pretty decently. Enough to put some away and enough to pay for something more than just bread during lunch. Yes.
The glorious door to the well-balanced and nutritious special lunch sets was open to him in the cafeteria. Something much more filling than some simple bread. Filled or not. It was just the pick-me-up that Chitose needed for his preparation for the school year to come. Not only that, but he was also able to enjoy his lunch on his own as people tended to avoid him. Even if it meant that they needed to crowd the rest of the chairs and tables.
That was okay, though. Not like any of them had ever given him any reason to want them to sit with him. Or even to remember any of their names, for that matter.
He'd begun to dig into his lunch special which consisted of rice, miso, a breaded chicken patty with some sauce on it, some veggies, and a bottle of milk. Life was good. He brought chopsticks to his mouth when he noticed somebody approach his table. No... not only approach, but to speak to him with the intent of sitting with him. Some... small blue-haired kid with a meek frame. He took a bite of rice as the chopsticks reached his lips fully.
Sit?... With me?
He chewed as his pair of crimson eyes turned up towards the petite... boy? Girl? Does the school even issue male uniforms for female students if requested? Boy... he mused. His eyes sharpened as he attempted to digest what he was looking at and perhaps remained silent for a moment or two longer than was comfortable for most. He swallowed.
"It don't matter to me. Who am I to tell ya where to eat?" Chitose shrugged as he took another bite of food.
"Someone dare ya to come'n ask to sit with me or somethin'?" He continued as he chewed.

Yuka patiently (well, okay, he wasn't that patient. He was actually a little anxious and worried he was bothering the guy) awaited an answer. It really didn't seem like he was going to get one. A silence stretched out for longer than was necessary, and he seriously considered just saying never mind and walking away to find someone else to sit with.
Finally though, he received an answer: the guy didn't mind if he sat there. That was... actually kind of surprising. Yuka had expected the answer to be no. Well, he was glad. "Awesome!" he said cheerfully. "Thanks, um..." he trailed off as he realized he didn't know the guy's name.
Come to think of it... he recognized this guy. He furrowed his brows as he sat down, trying to search through his terrible memory. He hadn't met him at the store or a restaurant or anything. Hm... ah, that's right! He just realized where he saw him! How could he have forgotten that?
"Hey, I think you're in my class! You're in.... class 2-b, right?"

"Hmm? Izzat so?"
Chitose looked over the girlish boy once more, trying to recall. 2-B was certainly the classroom he' been assigned to. He took a bite of meat as he attempted to scour his memory of somebody as... unique-looking as the boy before him. Small, blue hair, tiny frame... didn't ring a bell. He shrugged.
Of course, he didn't remember him... Or her. The jury was still out on that. Chitose didn't remember their class introduction, role call, or even where they sat which was pretty impressive considering he sat near the back of the room. He couldn't even remember anything significant that could lead to a nickname. The bluenette was truly an enigma to the young delinquent.
"Yeah. 2-B, near th'back. Sonohara Chitose." He gulped the mouthful of meat down, "So, you some kinda crossdresser or somethin'?"
He took a drink of his milk. There was no shame or subtlety in his voice.

Yuka smiled, mentally repeating the boy's name — Sonahara Chitose, he reminded himself. He'd never been the best at remembering names. It wasn't like he didn't pay attention, he just had the memory of a goldfish. He'd definitely remember Sonahara's name, though!
He'd barely sat down before Sonahara had asked him if he was a cross-dresser. The bluntness of the question caused him to pause his movements for a second. He... he hadn't misheard, had he? That was definitely what the taller boy asked, wasn't it? Well, that was certainly an interesting way to start conversation.
He looked at Sonahara's face, trying to see if he could guess, based on facial expression alone, whether he was being rude or just wondering. He couldn't. There was nothing that gave away the intent of the strange question. "...Do you mean that in, like, a judgmental away or are you just actually wondering?"
"Well, either way," Yuka continued before Sonahara could get a word in. "I'm not. At least, I don't think so..." he trailed off. It was true that his clothes did lean more towards the feminine side, especially due to his penchant for thigh high socks. He still get most of his clothes from the guys' section at stores, though.
"I'm Yuka, by the way." He's suddenly realized he hadn't introduced himself until now. "Aozaki Yuka. It's super nice to meet you, Sonohara-kun~!"

Chitose chuckled at Yuka's vague and non-confirming response. He expected a definitive answer, not an answer immediately followed by uncertainty. It was enough to make him set his milk down and let loose several breaths of laughter. Almost enough to make him choke up his drink, but not quite. He wasn't used to dealing with such a colorful person or colorful responses from strangers.
Then again, after Yuka introduced himself they were no longer strangers but acquaintances. Not that it helped Chitose to remember the boy's name. It was quickly overtaken by the strange boy's lack of a defined gender. A rarity, to be sure! This was set up to be an interesting lunch.
"Nice, huh? SUPER nice, ehh?"
He let loose a short guffaw. This boy was something else! Something that the delinquent hadn't had the chance to deal with before.
"Yeah, I guess is good t'meet ya too, Bishie-kun." Chitose reached a hand out to Yuka, ready to give a VERY firm handshake, "And, yeah. Jus' wonderin', no harm no foul. Ain't everyday y'see some longhaired, big-eyed, meek, pretty boy prance on up 'n ask fer a seat, y'know?"
The delinquent turned his full attention towards Yuka and smiled gruffly.

Yuka didn't understand what was so funny about what he said. Sonohara didn't seem to be laughing in a cruel manner, and his mood had obviously gotten a lot better, so he didn't see any harm in it. He was actually kind of happy that he said something that seemed to amuse his classmate... even if he wasn't quite sure what it was that he seemed to find so hilarious.
"Bishie-kun...?" he reacted to the nickname with confusion and paused for a moment. He still reacted quickly to shake Sonohara's hand, though. He couldn't help but notice how small his hands seems compared to the taller boy's. He liked him, he decided. He definitely wanted to be Sonohara-kun's friend! It would be fun!
He turned a bit red at being referred to as a 'pretty boy', but quickly shook it off. It wasn't really that noticeable. Well, he hoped it wasn't. He didn't need to embarrass himself. "I'm really not that meek," he grinned. "Just wait — I can be pretty damn annoying once you get to know me."
Yuka's words were said in a joking tone, but he was actually somewhat serious. He was definitely loyal and kind, that was for sure. But he could also be unnecessarily sarcastic, dirty-minded, and had a dark and crude sense of humor that a lot of people didn't seem to understand. He was actually really troublesome. Hey, at least he was self-aware.

"You've got some attitude."
Chitose shrugged and rolled his eyes, though with a smile. It was quite amusing, this twerp. His hands felt fairly soft, yet he wasn't wrong. He could feel some strength in Yuka's lithe hands and arms. It was a bit of a trip to see somebody so energetic around him. It honestly made Chitose feel more energetic, though that could also probably be attributed to the hearty meal.
It was odd. Chitose usually felt caged and boundlessly energetic with no outlet to channel it, or burned out. This was quite a nice, happy medium.
"I can see it, though." He smirked, "You're a damn nuisance, ain't ya?"
The delinquent laughed slightly.
"Heck, perhaps we can be nuisances together. You seem aight."

Yuka grinned proudly. Yeah, he was told that a lot... although it was mostly in annoyance or exasperation. It was never said in such a fond way. It actually made him feel really happy, although he tried to play it cool (and probably failed, given how brightly his eyes shined when he heard that).
He shrugged at being called a nuisance. "Perhaps," he said nonchalantly. What he really meant by that was oh, definitely. I'm the most annoying person you'll ever meet in your entire life and it's pretty much impossible to get rid of me. He probably should've given a warning beforehand, but he kinda did. He said that he was annoying. That was warning enough.
"Hmm...nuisances together?" he made a 'hmmm' noise, tapping his chin with his eyes closed and brows furrowed as he pretended to think deeply about this. He opened his eyes and smiled once more. "Alright, seems fun! I could use more friends that can keep up with me."

Chitose grabbed a portion of rice between his chopsticks and brought it to his mouth. The taste was almost more rich than when he'd started eating. How long had it been since he'd had a normal conversation at school like this? Five years? Eight? It was sometime during primary school, and that's all that he could remember. The nostalgia felt as though it were helping the flavor of his somewhat dry food taste that much better.
This was one weird guy, to be sure. Not often was it that he was approached. Even less often spoken to without the exchange being aboslutely necessary.
"Keep up with you'se?"
Chitose's brow raised quizzically, asking while still chewing.
"You sound pretty freakin' confident there, Bishie." He swallowed, "What kinda shenanigans ya get up to?"
Chitose was genuinely curious. He'd never really been challenged to keep up with somebody else. This got the young delinquent wondering to what kind of activities his lunchtime companion was up to. What nuisance-based activities were being done that he could be doing. It was fascinating and began to turn the image he had of the other boy into that of some form of delinquent as well.
The kinds of delinquency they could do together possibly had endless possibilities. It was almost exciting.
