Ramen Noodles: Class 2C Booth

"Uh... sorry." he mumbled, again.
Well, she had a point, but don't ramen shops, even one-time ones, have something that's the thing that's usually... well, the last time he'd been to one, his grandparents had ordered for him, so maybe they didn't have one, or each ramen shop had their specialty... and since this was just a humble booth, they wouldn't have a specialty... he felt a little embarrassed, but he guessed the girl just wanted to snap on someone.
He would have gone on to pay attention to Fuukami, but it seemed the impolite Englishman still had some more to say to him... he was apologizing, just a bit, though he didn't really fully believe that the boy did not know the nuances of Japanese etiquette. He was part foreign, and he did okay, except in rather complex situations... (some more fervently reverent people might still call him rude...) well, mostly because he erred... or hoped to err, at least, on the side of caution.
Still, an apology was an apology, though he wished the apology was less directed on to him, who had merely intervened, and more on the snappy girl... he nodded in recognition, and smiled in return (albeit sparingly... the boy was not accustomed to faking happiness...). It was mostly just to get it over with...
"Mizukami. My name." He couldn't say he felt it was nice to meet this Hibiki... but he didn't think he was bad at all. Just... doubtful. Inconsistent. He bowed to dismiss himself from his regard, and get back to... ordering. He turned back as Hibiki-san went away.
Miso's the sharp tasting one, right? I think that was what I tasted before... Tonkotsu... is that anything near tonkatsu? Maybe something with pork, since they both have 'ton'? Soy sauce? I'm not a vegetarian... is it okay to just think of it as... 'mix and match'?
"I guess... miso... and chicken..."
"I didn't know you knew how to cook, Fuukami-san... err... sorry."
His sorry count was escalating today.

Alright, okay. So he finally ordered. Miso soup base and chicken. That's right.
Then, he decided to make a comment, saying that he hadn't know I could cook. Have I ever tell him whether I can cook or not? I don't think so. Do I leave some kind of impression on him that makes he think like that? Is it because he knows I'm a spoiled rich girl, I don't know how to make some food on my own? And... I did say I would treat him some of my homemade food not long ago, right?
And today he's made me flustered long enough. Time for payback.
"Ok, miso and chicken it is. Right away. And... well, excuse me for not giving a good impression enough for you to place your trust in my cooking skills. I'm sure you won't get disappointed, sir. You will have an instant smile like the customer before you."
It feels rather nice to jab at other people like this. Now I see why snarky characters tend to have a lot of fans. It's all about the art of speech.

Small actions? You acted like we were your servants and then acted like an idiot when you totally weren’t an idiot. Somebody needs to give this guy a kick in the ass.
Unfortunately, such musings were all Mitsuko could do at this moment; picking a fight with someone during the festival was a sure way to get the wrath of the student council on her head. So right now all she could do was just scowl and bear it, turning her attention to messing with some bowls or napkins or whatever so she wouldn’t have to look at the guy as Iryna decided to handle the customers for a bit. She completely ignored as he walked away, not even considering him worth the time to deal with anymore. No, she was just going to play around with these little napkins until something more interesting but hopefully less infuriating occurred.
Considering the way her boss and this other kid were acting, however, it was starting to look like she wasn’t going to get anything at all. Man were they dull, even with the hint of sexual tension between them. They obviously knew each other, and the flustered behavior followed by overly formal discussions and possible light flirting was enough to hint that there was at least something going on between them. Unfortunately, it seemed neither of them was that interested in doing something about it. It was rather sad really.
”Hey kid, why don’t you just go ahead and ask her out already. It’s pretty obvious you like her. You’d have to be pretty oblivious to not notice the unresolved sexual tension between you two right now.” Mitsuko stated while her back was turned to them, messing around with some of the boiling broth. While they may not have been able to see it, she had a bit of a grin on her face. Hopefully something interesting would turn out from this. At the very least, watching some classmates get flustered would give her a good enough laugh to calm her down after dealing with that other guy.

After my assistant's words came out, I'm in such a state that I can do a spit-take without drinking anything. Furthermore, my body starts trembling all over, as if I've just been electrocuted, making me drop the utensils I'm holding. Thankfully none of them make it to the ground.
I feel a heat rush again, which has become so powerful that I can feel every tiny bloodstream flowing rapidly into my face, as if those words have released the valves inside my veins.
I vehemently protests: "W-W-W-W-What are you saying?", while flailing my arms uncontrollably. "What do you mean by s-s-s-sexual tension? I don't f-feel that way about him! And we are not flirting! There's no way I wanna flirt with that guy! Do we look like flirting to you? Do we? Why on Earth do you think we are flirting anyway?" Oh no, oh no, I'm totally blabbering now! What's wrong with me?

"Uh... uh..."
Ayumu didn't have anything ready to say to that; perhaps he was oblivious... and now the other party with whom he was having this so-called 'tension' had... erupted with furious denials.
His first impulse was to deny... he certainly didn't think that there was something going on between them... or was there? They were... awkward with each other... because of what had happened that rainy day... that was it, wasn't it? Then again... there was that fortunetelling booth that he had dropped by a while ago... where Fujibayashi-senpai... told him that he was...
"There is someone that follows you."
The fortune's being applicable too early! he complained in his mind.
The slight frown on his face was an understatement to the confusion he was feeling. Did her... in some certain subconscious level... consider Fuukami-san that way, that it was obvious to a random stranger? Did Fuukami-san...
"That that is the case... I don't think..." he trailed off. He had ended up denying it... but did the opposite really seem so, to other people? More importantly... was it really... true?

The sound of dropped utensils forced Mitsuko to turn around, and she found herself facing a situation that ended up a lot better than what she was going to happen. She had only expected for Iryna to simply blush a little, deny it with some flustering, and then apologize. Instead, she apparently decided the romantic comedy route of overreacting and flailing around like a mad woman was the appropriate way to to go about deny that she had any interest in the boy whatsoever. It was rather hard for Mitsuko to contain her laughter, her face scrunching up as stifled laughs escaped from her. By the time she was demanding an answer to why she thought they were flirting, however, she just lost it, all the held back laughter escaping as she tried to get her words out.
"You...you...you really should see the look on your face right now. It's priceless! I was just messing with you two but..."
Calming down a little bit, she took a moment to wipe some tears from her eye while regaining her breathe.
"But honestly, maybe I was onto something hmmm? I mean, all this time you were acting so stiff and formal like you had some nervous little crush, but now you're going off like some tsundere."
Turning her attention to the more subdued of this pair, she tried to figure out what to say. He was a lot quieter of them; all he did was give a slight frown and, well, she really didn't hear what he had to say over the more dramatic performance of Iryna. Meh, she might as well play with this some more. At the very least, it was improving her mood enough she was getting a little devilish grin on her face.
"Hey Casanova, if you're interested in her right now might the time to speak up. She can only act this cute for so long before she goes back to being tsun."

Oh God, oh God, oh God! Боже мой! What's wrong with me?
I have no choice but to crouch down, scramble for any dropped items on the ground. At least I can avert the eyesight of that guy, my nosy classmates, and other bystanders. Right now, I just want to find a dark hole to crawl in and die. Or whatever place like that. Somebody please make me disappear from this place. Anywhere but here.
I never thought I would see him face-to-face again so soon. The things we did... no, I did to him yesterday is outrageous the more I think about it. Did I really do all of those on my own free will? Was I even myself back then? I don't know anymore. And today my colleague is kind enough to light my fuse. One annoying brunette is already too many for me.
And then there's one term that I don't really understand: "tsundere". Is that some kind of Japanese slang? I'm not really sure it's bad or not, judging from the way she's using it.
I try to retort while gathering the utensils and composing myself: "Excuse me. What do you mean, tsundere? Are you making fun of me?"

She's... somewhat... enjoying this.
He had asked for a meal, and he had been given a serving of commotion. The Mizukami attempted to step back, to assess the situation, to comb for the details and the implications that he tended to overlook.
The other girl... she was... somehow a catalyst... a fire to the fuse that was their current awkwardness. She was amused, he was bemused, and Fuukami-san was a writhing ball. They were completely sucked into this black-haired trickster's pace. She could somehow understand her interest, her meddling... while he would be interested in a similar situation, he probably wouldn't do something to inconvenience the involved parties... although from the looks of it, she did not expect the size of the resulting metaphorical explosion.
Granted, their audience was not enough to make him particularly infamous, with the previous customer, the blond, having already left, no other customers waiting behind him in the queue, so that left the denizens of 2-C who are still helping out... who may or may not be busy with other things... and the three of them.
Still, it was... uncomfortable... it was strange to be on the spotlight, instead of behind the backdrop. It felt like... he had to do something, to say something... and he did not exactly have a script. The pink-haired girl seemed to have it worse than him... or perhaps he was just... less... open...
Tsundere...?
He was... somewhat... familiar with that term... and somehow... it somehow fit how Fuukami-san was... reacting... well, just the pattern... and maybe Black-san was misunderstanding... he initially thought she was misunderstanding... but now that he thought of it... why was she going to great lengths just to deny it? He had not somehow earned her ire, that she would not want to interact with him... (maybe because he had yet to appear to one of her practices?)... but no, that did not fit with being awkward, you don't go being awkward with somebody you dislike... agh... tsun, abrasive, dere, caring... somehow it really fits, but such a revelation...
I don't know how to handle it right now! Casanova... interested... no, my definition of interested is surely different from hers...
Oh, at the very least, they were providing her entertainment. He chuckled, very, very, very nervously.
"Uh... I don't think she's making fun of you..." ...though she definitely is having fun... "Err... can I just have my ramen and we... (he motioned with his eyes to Fuukami-san, indicating 'we' meant 'you and I') "...talk about this later?"
I know this probably won't end up the way I want it, but I really can't think of anything else to do...

Well, apparently her comment fell through a little due to the foreigner not understanding the term. Oh well, even if she was lost about it, the boy didn’t seem as clueless. At least that would give him an idea what he was dealing with, and maybe prolong some of this fun a bit by influencing every encounter between them from now on. Whenever he saw her, he would start thinking “is she being mean to me because she’s mean, or is she hiding secret feelings for me?”. Too bad she wouldn’t be able to be there to watch all the fun, but eventually a rumor or two would come through the grapevine back to her.
Till then, however, it started to seem like the fun was coming to an end, even if there wasn’t anyone else in line that would be forcing her to stop it. Iryna was now trying to hide from the boy, and he seemed interested in just getting his food and leaving. It was probably for the best; you can only string one particularly awkward moment along for so long before it starts becoming more tiring than fun to watch. Taking a small sigh, Mitsuko mumbled out a ”Fine,” before placing a hand on Iryna’s shoulder and giving her a slight tug.
”All right, I think you inspected the ground well enough. Let’s just give him his food and let him go. You two can always just hook up later once our shifts are done.”
Since the boy’s food had been ready for a while now, it didn’t take much for Mitsuko to simply place it in a bowl and hand it over to him.
”And just consider it on the house for giving me a good laugh after that ass that was in front of you.”

Looks like nobody wants to answer my question about the definition of "tsundere". Or is it too easy to understand? There are some words that come to my mind though: "tsuntsun", which means aloof or something like that, and "deredere" means lovestruck... Wait, lovestruck? I'm lovestruck with him? Nyet, nyet, nyet. I don't feel that way towards him. I just think he can make good company.
My mind is so unstable that any external cooldown measure is appreciated, even if it's from the one who started all this mess to begin with. She should be more helpful in defusing situations rather than the other way round. And looks like she's considerate enough to do the rest of my work, giving him the meal he needed. It doesn't matter whether it's for free or not. Getting this over with is top priority. Hah, I'll have a word with you later, Sakamoto-san.
I'll have to set things straight with my unexpected customer too, sooner or later. But first, I have to say something rather than being standing in one place with steam coming out of my head. So, when I speak up, these words come out:
"A-Alright, you are very welcome. You are very lucky to have this on the house as our... 50th customer. Congratulations, and enjoy our very best ramen."
Then I take a deep bow, just like a model receptionist.

"Uh, thanks."
Gingerly he took the bowl of ramen. On the house, huh? She may be irritable, but it looked like, somehow, with this mishap, he had maneuvered into her good side. Not that he had expected to be a source of amusement, but free, still-okay food was always good. (And judging by the smell, this was better than okay.)
She obviously just came up with that number... he thought. At least their amicable meddler had allowed him to run away from the problem at hand, for this time.
Still, the seed was sown; did they... did she really look like that? Could a pattern established in fiction actually appear in real life, with all its implications? The greatest implication would be that... that she likes him? Why? He'd never particularly thought of himself as likable... in that way...
Agh, this is difficult. He would have to clear this up later... well, he had tried, once, already; but... perhaps Fuukami-san wasn't sure herself, what this travesty the two of them were taking part in, was.
He was at a loss for words, even in his own mind.
"Uh... thank you for the food." he ended up repeating, as he mechanically sauntered away, looking for a place to sit and eat. OC: Exit? Or will you need me for some other things?

”Is there really any point in lying like that Iryna?” Sakamoto mumbled to herself.
Apparently the girl was wanting to try and save some face at the end, but it really didn’t matter know. She was thoroughly embarrassed, and the idea of romance planted inside both of their heads. To even try and end it in a dignified manner was a futile effort. Besides, it was completely unnecessary considering she already said why it was on the house; no other reason was needed. Ah well, it would be okay to just let the poor girl have one last moment of dignity.
”Thanks for your patronage, or something like that. “ she said with a dismissive wave as the boy wandered off. Well, that just left the two of them alone now, and she had an idea where things were going to go at this point. Might as well try and head off the girl and take the momentum.
”Well, he was a lot of fun. Didn’t mean to get you all riled up like that, but be honest, who was that? No one acts like that over just a random stranger.”
Honestly, she wasn’t sure why she was so interested in this whole situation. It could be boredom, but that wouldn’t explain it for too much, especially since with the main catalyst of the girl’s behavior gone things would get boring again pretty quickly. She wasn’t friends with the girl either so it wasn’t the good-natured interest and ribbing of a friend. And she had no idea who that boy was so that couldn’t be it. Well, since she couldn’t really think of a reason for it…
”Meh, you know what, nevermind, I’m getting bored just thinking of it. If you don’t mind, I think I’m gonna go and head off to explore the rest of the fair. I’m sure one of the others will be here soon enough.”
Without really waiting for an answer, she started to get herself ready to go. While she was leaving the situation for now, she figured it might be interesting to keep an ear out for whatever happened to these two. Whatever happened, it was bound to be the hottest gossip within the next few days, if they got over themselves and did something about it.

Mou. Why does my face still feels like a freshly-steamed meat bun? I'm in dire need of a cold drink, with as much ice as possible. If this keeps up, I think I will faint any moment.
Of course, after such a ruckus, I kinda expected Sakamoto to ask me about him. If not her, any other girl would. However, while I'm still digging my mind for an acceptable answer, she take that back. That's it? And after causing the whole thing, too. Even though I don't like people prying, somehow I feel a bit disappointed that she decided not to carry on her assault all the way.
Now she decides to bail. Well, I'm already too knackered to complain, so I just gives out a rather half-hearted response: "Ok, ok, only five minutes left anyway, I'll stay here until the others come."
Hot as hell in here, doesn't help that we have already received some heat from the spring sun. I'll take off once those two guys who are supposed to take over in just a couple of minutes later show up. Gotta get out of this place as soon as possible, to enjoy the festivities, and to calm myself down after that huge mess. I will set things straight with Sakamoto, and him, in a later time.
END
