::Youhei Sunohara::
Type: Canon
Age: 17
Gender: Male
Sexuality: Hetero... though often acts homosexual around Tomoya for comedic purposes.
Crushes: Females of the world
Face Claim: Youhei Sunohara - Clannad
Description:
Youhei manages to pull at least a decently dashing figure... for a delinquent. It's all about the face... Blonde hair, blue eyes, he looks very much like a foreigner of means. In winter he manages to make the normal off-yellow school suit look rather snazzy, wearing it with a relaxed feel. In summer he shows a little of his wild side with a popped top button so all the ladies can see... well the shirt he's wearing underneath. The way he stands still makes him look almost like a display mannequin; a little bit of tilt, a little bit of pose. Though it's just a school uniform, he wears it like its straight from Paris.
Build-wise... eh. Perhaps a little on the suave side. He looks like he at least gets a daily workout. Running, probably. He has no overt musculature, but it's easy to see he's limber. His walk and movements are mostly fluid, if generally a little overdone.
But, like I said, it's all about the face. When one meets the gaze of this boy one feels a vast sense of... pity. Blue eyes that should be deep pools of endless sea instead remind one of the empty sky. A slightly turned-up nose and expressive, feline mouth should call to mind upbringing or class but, in Sunohara's case, all one can see is a big, stupid cat. Yeah. Stupid cat. That could pretty much sum the whole boy up. Often, upon seeing him, people are seized with the urge to kick him or throw something at him. Big stupid cat indeed.
Personality:
Despite efforts at pity many are forced to agree: Sunohara really just is that stupid. Always the first to jump to the wrong conclusion and the last to pick up on a bit of sarcasm, Sunohara's just slow. He seems to blithely walk through life not worrying about the obvious social and intellectual pitfalls he may stumble upon. Gullible? Yes. Opinionated? Highly. Idiotically courageous? Often, though he tends to only get into fights he thinks he can win... trouble is he thinks he can win them all. You can almost say that Sunohara is -tough- stupid. Like, the more you kick him, poke fun at him, and bring him down the more he just bounces back like nothing happened. You cannot beat the stupid out of Sunohara.
This isn't to say Sunohara doesn't have feelings. It's just that he doesn't have passion for anything. He does have quite a love for flirting with girls, but he tends to take this on with the same mentality as the fights he gets into (IE: I can win them all).
Sunohara sticks up for his buddies, no matter how hard it gets. In fact, even if his buddies decide that part of their therapy involves knocking Sonahara around for a bit... he doesn't really mind. I guess in appearance he's a little like a big, stupid cat whereas in personality he's more like a little, stupid puppy. One could ay he almost clings to relationships, though not out of desperation. He's just loyal like that. Loyalty actually stands out in his character. He'll automatically stand up for anyone he thinks needs his companionship, even if there is no reward except lots of pain in it for him. It is only once realizing this that Sunohara becomes lovable. Though it seems he is not capable of deeper emotions at least he sticks to what he knows, and he knows that he likes being around his friends and he likes when everyone is smiling and laughing, even if it's at him.
Picking on him is like kicking a puppy... it's not like he's going to do anything about it or even hate you for it. But, pick on his friends and you'll find that even puppies have teeth.
Histoy:
Sunohara grew up out in the countryside. He was taught by his parents to respect people and nature and to humble himself. He was a dutiful son and attentive brother, looking after his little sister Mei. However, there came a time as he grew that he began to resent the lack of human contact available out in the country where they lived.
So, when it was time to choose a high school to attend Sunohara picked one some distance from his family home, deeper in the populated areas. He wanted to meet people! Girl people, preferably! And he did. Meet people, that is.
But, what Sunohara didn't expect was the way people acted in the big city. Not everyone had nice parents who taught them how to treat other people. Sunohara was picked on, and he saw others suffering the same fate. He discovered new, deeper feelings of frustration, loneliness, anger and, finally, hatred. He couldn't believe people would treat each other this way. Even if it meant not looking as cool in front of your friends... why couldn't people humble themselves so that everyone could smile and laugh together?
It all came to a head with the soccer club. Sunohara had always enjoyed sports since he grew up far away from video games and television. He had been hoping to make it big in his favorite sport, soccer, and maybe get a career. However, it wasn't meant to be. The older students on the soccer team were horrible bullies. Sunohara put up with it when they bullied him, convinced that all he needed to do was laugh it off and keep playing the game. However, when they started picking on some of the other, weaker members of the club Sunohara couldn't stand it anymore. A dam burst inside him, and he got in one of the biggest brawls of his life. When it was finally over, Sunohara was asked never to appear there again. Rumors spread around to the other sports teams that Sunohara was a delinquent and should be avoided at all costs.
But. Whatever. Though he was depressed at first, soon Sunohara walked it off. He was happy enough by himself, but he had lost some of his faith in his fellow men. He started skipping school and just lazing around. He stopped talking to his family as much since he didn't want them to worry about him and call him home. He also didn't want them to know how terrible the world was. Especially his little sister.
That was about the time he met up with Tomoya. They were both sports dropouts and were both labeled as delinquents by all and sundry so it was an easy pairing. Plus Sunohara's stupid-go-lucky personality often helped Tomoya get over the rougher days. Though it was never clear exactly how much respect Tomoya had for Sunohara, Youhei began to have a deep level of trust and loyalty to his one true friend in the big, mean world. The two quickly became inseparable due to a common need for companionship. And so, from that point forward, Sunohara followed Tomoya like some kind of goofy stray puppy.

"It's a conspiracy, Tomoya! It's obviously a conspiracy!" Youhei skipped any formalities or 'good-morning's' and immediately went in for the crazy bit. Grabbing Tomoya by the shoulders he ranted:
"Yesterday! I was planning on asking this girl out, and it was all going to go just fine! But then at lunch all the bread got bought out all quick-like so there was only garlic curry bread left! How can I ask a girl out with garlic-curry breath? And you know what? You know what else?"
At this he began shaking Tomoya back and forth, full of righteous indignation.
"The lunch lady was smirking when she served it to me! I knew there was something fishy going on! That lunch lady has it in for me just because I never flirt with her! She wants to make sure I don't flirt with any other girls! I think she might be obsessed with me! She might have a shrine to me in her house somewhere! You can tell by the way she looks at me sometimes! And yesterday was just more proof!"
Finally he releases Tomoya's shoulders but hardly pauses for a breath as he starts to pace, looking as deep-in-thought as is possible, for him.
"There's gotta be a way to break it to her gently that she's not my type... I'm worried since ladies that are obsessive like that tend to kill the guy if he tries to brush her off... happens all the time in the movies..."
Coming to this realization Sunohara pulled an 'oh-noes!' face with both hands on his cheeks.
"What'm I gonna do Tomoya? She's gonna kill me!"
