It is already late in the morning. If one would go outside, he or she might be able to perceive the snow falling from the sky. Since holiday is already taking a toll this Christmas season, a countless number of people are probably doing what they desired to do, with the absence of school and work. The shops are probably crowded with people as well. It's not a rarity with the city's daily population growth. It's getting really hectic for them, but someone like Akari Setsuna knows that the presents they will give to their loved ones would be unlike any other ordinary gifts.
The aforementioned purple-haired girl didn't get any sleep last night as usual. She tried to avenge it by trying to take a nap this morning, but nothing significant happened. The thoughts that were persistently dwelling in her mind hindered her objective to sleep. She's actually getting used to this, which is getting really annoying in her part. Akari continued to stare at the ceiling, trying to numb her head from thoughts that never stopped haunting her. She also tried to think of things that involved happiness, but she failed in both accounts. The purple-head released one last sigh from her mouth, closing her eyes as she did so. She rose from her position and slid off from her bed.
She closed her window, sliding the curtain over it to cover the view from outside. Soon afterward, she approached the cabinet that consisted of two doors that would give her access to her clothes. Opening both of them, her eyes immediately got lost in the variety of styles and attires that are hanging for her to choose. She picked a shirt that has dark blue long sleeves and a pair of jeans that opposed the color of her top. She grabbed two random shoes that lay abandoned near the cabinet, and she wore them all after she did so. She's all set and ready to get tired after a long walk around the city. She went out of her room but took one last look at it, debating whether she should do this or not.
She has nothing to do after all. This should be the right choice for she wants to sleep tonight and pass the time. Akari closed the door and locked it with the use of her key, then she ventured straight into another area of the house and went down a couple of staircases. Her footsteps were faint and barely heard due to the kind of sneakers she's wearing right now. Although, some of them echoed in the silent depths of the place, and it's noticeable that she is the only one on her way out. In the distance, her eyes could see the snow taking the liberty to fall from the gray skies. She seized the opportunity to walk faster than before, and just like that, she found herself standing outside. Akari absentmindedly looked around, realizing that the morning will soon reach its peak for today, and though it might not seem like it, but it's a good time to shop around.
Perhaps she could spend some bits of her money to at least give them a reason why they stay in her pockets all the time. As she finally set foot on the area that would lead to the place where her favorite shops are located, she could see a lot of people flocking towards there in a hurried fashion. Head bent, she pushed through the breathtaking crowd and squeezed herself in. Half of her actually didn't want to do this. Shopping around was never what she imagined she would be doing in such a day. Everything was just so boring. She tried to remind herself that she's still young and has a thrilling future ahead of her. But thinking about it just made her feel despair instead of hope. There's just no way she's going to be anything more than she already is.
Akari went inside a random shop, and ironically, the people working in here sells things that she's really fond of. Although they're just too expensive for her to afford. What annoyed her was the number of people going in and out of the place. It's strange that they decided to hang out in here at this time, among all days. The purple-haired girl strolled around the shop, a frown deepening the creases of her forehead as she moved. Akari sighed, accompanied with a realization that the people are actually searching for the ideal Christmas gift, all wanting the attention of the shop assistants and all getting in everyone's way. Some people would smile and apologize sweetly when they step on someone's foot or shoe. But others would bark out insults as the stress of Christmas shopping worked them down.
Glancing around her, her purple eyes fell on a shelf with books that are not in alphabetical order. Shaking her head, she slouched over, her shoulders hunched with submission. Reordering the books, she wondered if anything interesting would happen today; aside from people who would stroll into the shop like they owned the place and start wreaking havoc. Of course it won't last that long, for the security guards can always calm the atmosphere down if anything serious happens. She could tell that some of them are irritated of the aforementioned guards, but they couldn't afford to forward their complaints. That single act could lead to fighting again, and that isn't what anyone needed. She squeezed her way out of the shop and decided to choose another one that is more bearable to console in.
After a few minutes of searching, she saw a cafe. On top of it was the name, the letters styled in neon lights. She opened it and stepped inside. But while she passed by, she didn't notice a table that disturbed half of her way, and so she accidentally collided the side of her body against the table, causing tremor on it. Little did she know that a hot cocoa fell down, and the porcelain cup crashed to the floor, shards scattering at the impact from the tile and the hot cocoa creating an ever-growing puddle on the floor. "Oh, I'm so sorry!" she exclaimed, bowing her head. She grabbed a wad of tissues that were readily prepared on the table, and then she bent down to clean up the mess. Meanwhile, she doesn't know who even owned the hot cocoa.

It was winter break, and so it wasn’t until almost noon that Mitsuko actually bothered to get up. Even then she was rather sleepy as she had spent most of the night before staying up late on the computer or watching TV. That was what she loved about breaks; she could do everything she wanted to do and more until she was just too tired to do it. There was no bedtime, no needing to be responsible about it; just you and freetime to enjoy. Of course, that meant that her entire head was a complete mess that afternoon. So the first ten minutes of her day was spent brushing out knots and whatever necessary maintenance was needed on hair before finally heading off to clothing. Since the weather was freezing, she slipped on a pair of warm sweatpants and a sweatshirt. Feminine? No. Practical? You bet on it. And that was all she really cared; it was cold, sweats were warm. Though to at least be fair, she put on a coat to cover up the sweatshirt, and had some nice boots on as well. Anybody who was obsessed with fashion would be foaming at the mouth, but that was not the people she was aiming to please.
For a ‘brunch’ meal, she simply whipped up some eggs and toast to make an egg sandwich. Mitsuko munched idly, staring ahead at the calendar. It was getting close to Christmas, and she had failed to do any Christmas shopping at all. That was normal for her of course; to wait till the last minute. Besides, that was when all the sales were going on, so at least things would be cheap. Sipping some milk, she went over the list of people who she needed to buy gifts for. There were her parents…and that was about it really. Wow, that was quick and easy. Sure, she had some friends that she could buy gifts for, but she didn’t feel like she knew them well enough to justify it. So, it was just time to shop for mom and dad, even if they always swore they didn’t want a present. They were going to get it anyway.
Taking care of her dishes real quick, Mitsuko grabbed some cash and then headed out the door into the snow. As she crunched along, she started thinking about what it was she could get for her folks, but as she reached the shopping district her mind was distracted. The hustle and the bustle was way too much for her to handle, and the noise didn’t help matters. Every store was packed, and Mitsuko wasn’t about to go fight the crowds for gifts at the moment. She could wait it out; she was the master procrastinator after all. Besides, would give her more time to actually think of something.
Standing out in the cold, however, was not the best way to spend time. So she tracked down a small café of sorts. They promised hot cocoa, and that was good enough for her. Ignore the fact that she just ate; Mitsuko couldn’t resist sweets, especially warm stuff in the middle of winter. Heading inside the building, she grabbed a seat, made an order, and waited.
The place was rather crowded, with waiters and waitresses running all over the place trying to things taken care of. People were having to squeeze by each other to get to where they needed to go. Mitsuko was starting to think now was a bad time to go shopping. If she couldn’t escape the crowds to get a drink of cocoa, where could she go? Well, there was home, but they were out of cocoa mix at home so that wasn’t an option. Eventually the drink arrived and was placed on the table. Mitsuko let it sit there for a moment, waiting for it to cool before she drank it.
Bad decision. While she was busy looking out the window to keep an eye on the crowds in hopes they would go away, somebody knocked into the table. A crash later, and Mitsuko was lazily looking on as a girl with purple hair (was this the latest fashion craze or something?) was already cleaning up the cocoa. Mitsuko, though, was just sad she didn’t even get the chance to drink some; other than that the whole thing was an issue.
”Just pay for a new one and I won’t mind at all,” she replied to the girls apologies while grabbing some tissues. No point crying over spilled cocoa; she just joined the girl on the floor and began to wipe it up. A glance upwards, and Mitsuko noticed there was some relieved waitresses.
Yeah, you got lucky today. You should be the ones cleaning this, but I guess the holidays softens people up a bit. she thought as the two cleaned up the mess.
Grabbing some of the shards of the cup, Mitsuko gathered them up in her palm and laid them on the table. She’d throw them away later; right now she just needed to make sure people didn’t step on them and hurt themselves.
”So kid, what’s your name?” Mitsuko asked with a half-caring tone. She did care a bit (needed to know who it was in case she ran off without replacing the cocoa) though.

Crawling about on your knees was certainly a good way to gain strange looks, Akari realized, collecting the glass pieces into her palm as carefully as possible. Shuffling forward slightly, she had to grimace at the cold, undeniably wet feeling that spread over her knees, or more correctly, the fabric of her jeans. The cocoa… how had she forgotten about the cocoa? Stupid, stupid! Groping blindly on the tabletop for another set of tissues to mop away at the mess, the small purple-haired girl was slightly surprised to see a second pair of female hands begin to clean the spilled cocoa. Looking up, she was a little surprised to see a vaguely familiar face.
Her ears caught the words the stranger had said to her. Akari was somehow fortunate to bring enough money with her. Otherwise, she wouldn't be able to pay the cost of the hot cocoa and it would be unfair on her companion's part. The purple-head wanted to check how much money did she bring along with her. Sometimes, she would just get a certain amount of them without even knowing how much. The weight of her pocket convinced her that she, indeed, brought a lot with her this time, unlike any other ordinary days. At least Lady Luck gave her a chance (which is slightly a rare case for a small girl like her) now. It does make sense, because it's Christmas.
Akari continued to pick up the shards, keeping her concentration intact with the pointed objects, for even one carelessness coming from her would lead her finger to be pricked. When she had gathered enough as of the moment, she placed them all on top of the table like what her companion did. Afterwards, Akari repetitively did the same process to the rest of the shards that were still lying on the floor. The purple-haired girl caught a glimpse of the waitresses idly watching them do the job. Well, they were supposed to help them, because more pairs of hands would be better than two. It's not like the small girl cared. She made an accident. Therefore, she has to fix it herself.
Although, she didn't expect the stranger to bend down and help out. When she had finally finished, the purple-haired girl stood up, her eyes searching for any more shards that she might have missed. There seems to be none. It was not until the stranger suddenly spoke that Akari remembered the girl was actually there. The purple-head found herself looking up at the tall height of the person she had just helped on cleaning the mess. She nearly granted her own desire to ask for her name, but the stranger questioned for hers first. "My name is Akari Setsuna," she answered straightforwardly, but before saying anything else (and before she would forget), she decided to buy a new hot cocoa for the stranger first. "I'll buy a new one, so I'll be right back," she said hurriedly, dashing over to the counter.
Her hand fumbled inside her pocket, her fingers entwining with a lot of coins. Akari grabbed a reasonable amount of them, and she glanced up to see the advertisement being used as a poster on the wall, featuring an ordinary hot cocoa. In large bold letters, it indicated to be thirty yen (currency of Japan). She gazed back at the coins she had taken out from her pocket and nodded in satisfaction. Guess these would be enough. She's holding forty yen, and she would receive a change of ten yen. When it was finally her turn to order, she told the waitress what she was supposed to say. And within one minute, the hot cocoa was ready. Akari paid the cost and received the change, placing them inside her pocket before holding the cup of hot cocoa carefully.
It was too warm for her hands to bear, but she figured that if she would let go, it would suffer the same fate as the previous one. She actually loved drinking these things, and she wanted to buy one for herself too. However, her thirst for it was long gone ever since the accident happened. "Here," she found herself saying as she placed the hot cocoa on the table, just right in front of the stranger.

Mitsuko noticed all the strange looks that they were getting from people, but one quick glare towards them and they turned their heads back to their newspapers and magazines. It was just a broken cup of cocoa, nothing to get excited over. She wouldn’t have been too surprised if some of the younger boys had other reasons for looking though. Two girls on bent over on the floor? Not wanting to dwell on that thought, Mitsuko turned her attention over to the girl. A quick deadpan look came over her face as she saw the girl had gotten cocoa all over her jeans. Well, there went a good pair of pants. It would be a pain to get rid of that.
Mitsuko was a little more careful in that she didn’t go groping around on the floor on her knees. Instead, she squatted, and while it was more uncomfortable, it kept her pants dry and clean. It didn’t take long before the two of them had mopped up most of the cocoa, and so Mitsuko headed off to throw the napkins away. As she passed by the waitresses that should have been doing the work, she gave them a glare. While she would have liked to have given them a lecture, today they would be safe. Right now she just wanted her cocoa and have time to relax before she went and did any shopping. In order to do this she had to get all of this taken care of. Dropping the wet napkins in the trash, she made her way back to the table.
When she got there, she found the girl was picking up shards of the cup and placing them on the table. Mitsuko was about to head back to the ground to help, but before she got the chance, the other purple-haired girl stood up. Apparently she had finished cleaning while she had been away throwing the napkins. Had that little trip really taken that long, or did they get lucky and the shards were big. Either way, there was probably some left, but Mitsuko didn’t want to bother with it anymore. She turned her head back towards the employees.
”Hey, we got most of it cleaned up, but I’d suggest you get a mop and broom over here and finish it. You’re lucky I’m nice enough to not tell the manager you were lazying around like that.”
It felt good to get the lecture out of the way. Okay, it wasn’t a lecture, but pointing out their flaw still felt good. She couldn’t stand it that they weren’t doing their jobs and making the customers clean up an accident. But she didn’t know how they worked normally, so Mitsuko didn’t plan on telling the manager. Everybody deserved a second chance, though if this ever happened again, well, there will be a small group of unemployed teens walking out of this place, that was for sure.
When that was done, the girl finally introduced herself as Akari Setsuna. Before Mitsuko could reply, however, the girl was off to get a new hot cocoa. Mitsuko smiled a bit at the thought, glad to see at least someone was taking responsibility. Sometime today she had to buy the kid a cookie or something. It was the least she could do, and somebody had to reward the girl for a good deed. Hmph, that sounded like she was planning on training a dog or something. Well, people did have a similar learning process to dogs through rewards and punishment.
The girl returned with the hot cocoa, and so Mitsuko sat down in a chair before taking it. It was a bit hot, but nothing she couldn’t handle. Still, just in case, she decided to let it have some time too cool before drinking it. Her mood was already shot to a degree; the last thing she needed was to burn her tongue. Besides, there was more pressing issues to take care of.
”Well, you going to sit down?” she asked, noticing that the girl was still standing. Mitsuko motioned to the chair right across from her.
”Anyway, my name is Sakamoto Mitsuko, third year. Not sure if you care about the last part, but I’ve never seen you before so I’m guessing you’re a first or second year?”
There was a little self-interest in pointing their respective grades. Mitsuko had found that once an underclassman found out they were talking to an upperclassman, they got a lot more polite and respectful. Not that she thought this girl was rude; she did just spend her time helping clean up a mess she made and got her a hot cocoa. Besides, it would give them all something to talk about.
”So then, I hope they didn’t charge you that much for the cocoa since the only reason we had to get one was because it broke. In fact, they probably should have given me a free one…” she added in, trying to indirectly find out how much she owed the girl.

For some weird reason, time was running slow. Although, this was an awfully busy place, everything seemed to be in slow motion; maybe it was because of the snow that is synchronizing with the slowness of things. Akari's eyes practically searched around the cafe for a seat because the woman would probably want to drink alone. She'd probably not spend time with the likes of the purple-haired girl. It's best not to worsen the situation than it already is. Meanwhile, she heard the stranger telling the waitresses off for idly staring at them earlier, doing nothing but keeping their eyes intact with what they did. It's true that it was supposed to be their job, though. The purple-haired girl, however, kept her mouth shut about it, knowing that any other words she would say would be considered unnecessary to the situation.
She could do nothing but continue scanning her eyes around, desperately trying to find some kind of vacant chair for her to sit. All the chairs in this cafe were occupied and it was only the woman's table with the extra seat across from her that was available. Akari can only make things more bothersome if she'll ask the woman whether she can sit down or not. The purple-haired girl helplessly decided to get out of this place and maybe leave the stranger alone with her hot cocoa. There are still other cafes and shops that sell these things, so it's no problem for the purple-head to at least visit in one of them. Everything will be alright that way-- and it would be less bothersome. It was not until the woman spoke that Akari remembered she was actually there. She asked if she will sit down, and the purple-haired girl slowly nodded in embarrassment before settling herself on the chair, finally relieved that her legs already seized the opportunity to rest.
"Thanks," she said to the woman with a smile, feeling grateful that she invited Akari to sit down. Although, she didn't expect that to happen in the first place. She actually caused so much fuss inside this cafe, and she thought it was unlikely for the stranger to express kindness after what happened. After a short while, she heard her companion finally introducing herself as Sakamoto Mitsuko, a third year student, then she added that she had never seen the purple-haired girl before, and guessed that she's probably a first or second year student. "Nice to meet you, Sakamoto-san. I'm a second year student," Akari stated, bowing her head politely. People had been thinking that she is an elementary student, judging her height and her childish features, but it was odd for someone like this woman to guess that her age bracket is somewhere on the first or second year in high school. The purple-haired girl was slightly amazed, but she didn't let this particular astonishment overwhelm her senses.
She was about to spare a glance at the window to observe the falling snow. After all, she has no other topics to discuss with Mitsuko, other than the basic information about themselves. However, she had not done her intention when her companion spoke once again, saying that she was hoping the cashier didn't charge Akari much about the cocoa. "No, it was really not a problem. It was my fault, anyway," the purple-haired girl reassured, nervously pointing at herself and knocking her head out of plain stupidity and ridiculousness. It's true that it was of no trouble to her, at least not anymore. She was rather relieved from the guilt she felt a while ago-- the moment when she collided her body to the table, causing the cocoa to fall down. Meanwhile, she noticed that Mitsuko acted as if she has to repay Akari for whatever she had done. At this theory, the purple-haired girl raised one eyebrow, half-contemplating about it. Doesn't Mitsuko know that Akari owes her a lot? The purple-haired girl shrugged her thoughts off, knowing that her purpose of accompanying her acquaintance is to aid her if ever she needs help with something.

Mitsuko just watched as the girl struggled to find a chair. Apparently she didn’t want to take advantage of the free chair that was right in front of her. This just made Mitsuko roll her eyes; the place was packed, and most people would understand if you had to take a seat in front of them. Besides, they just had a small moment of ‘bonding’ over cleaning up hot cocoa. No insult would have been created from taking a seat. Because of that, Mitsuko finally broke down and just plain out invited the girl to sit down. She seemed rather grateful for it.”Don’t worry about it; least I can do after you got me some new cocoa. Besides, nowhere else to sit now is there?” she replied, leaning back in a little and sipping some of her cocoa.
When the girl confirmed Mitsuko’s thoughts about her being a younger student, she just nodded. The girl looked rather young, and if it wasn’t for the fact that she was out here by herself she might have thought her a elementary school student. Actually, Mitsuko had thought that she might have been a middle schooler, but she wanted to give the girl the benefit of the doubt. If she wasn’t a high schooler, well, she would have at least been flattered by the suggestion she was. Little kids were always in such a hurry to grow up for some reason. Right now, Mitsuko would rather be in middle school still. They had more fun really, and less drama.
Mitsuko’s eyes didn’t follow the girls when she wanted to look out at the snow; she didn’t really care that much. Right now she wanted to talk since, well, there was nothing else to do really. The girl apologized and blamed herself for the mess again, leading Mitsuko to just deadpan look at her. It really didn’t matter what the issue was; it was an accident in a crowded room. Anybody could have made this mistake, and it was probably unavoidable as well.
”Like I said, don’t worry about. In a crowded room like this, there was no way they would be able to get through without somebody breaking anything. Besides, you got me my cocoa so I’m happy.” she replied with a bit of a grin.
Bored and silent again, Mitsuko’s mind tried to dig up something else they could talk about. The thing was, she really didn’t know what they could talk about. She wasn’t good at small chit-chit. The weather was too obvious since, well, it was snowing outside and everybody was freezing to death. School wasn’t that interesting of a topic, and she was a second-year student; they really wouldn’t have anything to talk about in the first place. Questions about love life were too personal for two strangers, so that really didn’t leave much for them to chat about.
”So then, any particular reason you’re out in this weather?” she asked before sipping more cocoa. It was about the best question she could think of. Not much, but it was better than something. At least this way there was a chance of the two of them hitting upon something to chat about instead of sitting here in complete silence doing absolutely nothing.
OOC:Sorry this is so short.
