With the issue related to the size of the bread finally dealt with, it seemed that the two of them could finally get to eating. Looking up, Nagisa saw that Ayumu had slunk back and looked a little reluctant, but it was probably just him worrying about her again. That, or maybe he didn't like sweet foods? How could she have been so ignorant to assume he would like anpan! If it didn’t appeal to him and he didn’t eat it, she was going to buy him lunch. She should have asked if he liked it first before giving it to him, so it was her responsibility to feed him. There was no way she could eat knowing that Ayumu-san was going to miss out and lunch. It would make him light headed and out of focus, a very bad state to be in during school hours.
Nagisa calmed down, however, when he finally took a bite of it, and continued to eat. He made a small mess, getting crumbs on his mouth, but there wasn’t anything they could do about it. Ayumu probably didn’t want her pampering him like she had been, offering food and all. So she was resisting the urge to point it out, and instead focused on her own food. Besides, he was taking care of it himself. He didn’t need her babying him. So it was on to her own lunch.
Nagisa ate very slowly and methodically, taking small bites at a time. She made sure to enjoy every single flavor of the anpan. It was one of her favorite foods, hence why she used it as a reward when she needed a boost. The sweet flavor of the beans made her smile lightly in delight, and with a quick swallow she went for another bite. In between the bites she would look up at Ayumu, seeing how he was doing. She would then look back down and eat her bread. He seemed to be doing rather fine, if quiet. But they had been talking a lot within the last few moments, so they probably needed some time to be quiet. Besides, they needed to hurry up and eat; lunch was getting late, and they might be running low on time to eat.
Eventually he spoke up again, mentioning that he wasn’t that good in front of a lot of people. That, well, that was exactly why she wanted to do it. She was scared in small groups; she’d die of fright in front of a huge crowd. People who could face all those people and perform were her idols. Their courage was admiring, and she wanted to be so much like them. That was why she wanted to bring back the Drama Club; to give her the chance to be that person on staging, getting applause from everyone, and finally facing her fear. Maybe if she expressed that thought Ayumu might be convinced otherwise?
”Well Ayumu-san, I’m not that great in front of people myself,” she replied, a little less confident than she had been,”But I’ve always admired people who could stand in front of people like that, which is why I wanted to restart the Drama Club. It sounds a little childish, but I was hoping that becoming an actress I could be just like them,” she finished, completely serious if frightened a little.
She had opened up to him, taking advantage of their similar personalities to do so. While he may not have the forceful personality that Okazaki-san had that was forcing her to improve herself, Ayumu-san seemed like a good person to chat to. Whatever strength she gained from Okazaki-san she could pass to him, and together they could work on improving themselves and get past their shyness. Hopefully he didn’t think her reasoning was too sappy though. It sounded a bit that way to her at least.
When he popped in about hearing of Okazaki and Sunohara, she was afraid for a moment he had heard of their reputation. While Nagisa thought it totally undeserved, everybody considered them ‘delinquents’. She was afraid it would scare Ayumu away, and she looked nervous for a second. Luckily, he seemed to have forgotten whatever it was she had heard about, and Nagisa calmed down.
”Well, we’ve had a little session about making some posters, but that’s about it. But I’m sure we’ll be fine. Okazaki and Sunohara-san are very eager to help me, and they are very kind people….if a bit eccentric.” she replied, more confident than when talking about herself. She didn’t like calling them ‘eccentric’, but it was the best word she could think of to describe them. Okazaki-san was very forceful and snarky and Sunohara-san was, well, Sunohara.

aim. fire. Mizukami Ayumu instinctively slowed down eating, and although his rancorous manner of biting down the anpan still remained, he chewed more and allowed the food to be thoroughly mashed up in his mouth before he swallowed it completely. He sometimes envied people like Furukawa-senpai, who could eat slowly like that. He could only chomp things down. He wished, just like how he slowed down his eating, that the time for lunch would at least extend a bit. He liked being with Furukawa-senpai, in case you didn't notice.
He listened intently to his senpai's words. At the same time, he tried not to look so focused. It was, as may be surmised, a difficult job, but he truly was interested in what his upperclassman had to say... and, as had been mentioned, did not want to put too much pressure. People gave him looks once in a while when he stared too fitfully. He had mentioned his reason to Furukawa-senpai, his reason for being a little, probably, useless on the stage; he had surmised that Furukawa-senpai was a little like that, too, though he didn't dare completely assume so, much less confirm with her.
Well, her own words preceded his thoughts; he might have different reasons for not handling crowds effectively, but the result seemed to be the same. He may not be, in all aspects, shy, but he did have certain strategic retreat moments. The turtle-in-the-shell moments. He didn't like putting himself up in front so many people, to possibly be ridiculed. Or some other thinsg worse. Well, that was the pessimistic vision. Even the optimistic vision might be hard to digest. He took another bite.
It isn't childish. It's more... childlike. Ayumu thought. He couldn't help but keep smiling, now and again, in and about Furukawa-san's statements. That explains things. "Well, I don't really... admire them that much..." he started, hoping his words weren't disappointing Furukawa-senpai in any way... "...but I think it's admirable." That's plain vague, Mizukami-san. It's Furukawa-senpai that is admirable, eh? The juxtaposition of his scrambled thoughts and words fizzed up in him, like bubbles in soda, though less, less conspicuous. Perhaps that was good, and perhaps that was bad. Either, or, neither, nor?
Moving on, Furukawa-senpai then described her... unlikely colleagues. Well, Ayumu was still on the verge on figuring out why unlikely; he wondered what the two were like. Eccentric? he remarked to himself. Eccentric people, to him, were generally reduced to simply, irrevocably, interesting, and although some still manage to shock him, he generally liked that sort of people. Just as long as they kept their cleavers and baseball bats off Furukawa-senpai. He grinned, this time, at what he was imagining. "I'll try to drop by... I'd like to see the other senpais." he said what was in his mind. Maybe it would work even if he wasn't that interested in drama, per se. After all, he loved stories, making them and writing them; perhaps he could help in turning them into life. Besides, what he liked most in stories were the people. The characters. It looked like there were bonuses attached to Furukawa-senpai.
He wondered if Furukawa-senpai thought he was being forced... but well, he'll just confirm it later... if she asked. He'd really be... joining, that is. Probably.
"Um, and thank you for calling me Ayumu-san, senpai." I don't think I can call you Nagisa... yet. The stoic second-year had yet another reason to hide his eyes from view... perhaps he was bashful, after all. That would be dreadfully convenient.
OC: Sorry for the shortness. I don't like working under time pressure! Hahaha.

Nagisa noticed that Ayumu ate faster than she did, and that he seemed to be forcing himself to do so. It was probably because when one at alone they had no concerns about manners, so he might have been used to eating much more viciously. So his slowing down his eating was probably to be more polite to her. She just smiled slightly as she ate her anpan. Obviously, she was going to be done long after he was finished, but even then she eventually finished eating. Taking the wrapper, she gently folded it into a neat square before pocketing the trash to throw away at the appropriate time in a trashcan. With that, it was back to the business at hand; the Drama Club.
As she talked, she noticed that Ayumu was smiling. She didn’t remember smiling anytime earlier (he was too busy being shy). Maybe he could relate to what she was saying? That would explain he was expressing, and with this confidence she spoke with a bit more eagerness in it than she expected. When he finally replied though, it took a turn the other direction. He didn’t really admire them that much, even if he thought it admirable. This left Nagisa as the only one to really ramble about how strong people who could stand in front of others were, and this left her a little embarrassed. It never crossed her mind, however, that Ayumu may have in fact been wanting to say the she was the admirable one, not the people on stage.
”Oh, well, I, uh, well at I’m glad to hear that at least you think it’s an admirable trait. It really is something I’d like to become one day.”
Since she really didn’t like talking about herself, Nagisa tried to think of someway to shift the conversation. There was a temptation to ask Ayumu if he had any goals or dreams, but since he was similar to her, that might not go over so well. Besides, that was a rather personal question; she had given hers out on her own free will. Asking about it would have felt like she was forcing him to talk about something that may be overly personal, and she didn’t want to make him feel uncomfortable. So when he moved on to talking about Okazaki and Sunohara, she was greatly relieved that she wasn’t the focus of conversation anymore.
”Yes, that would be great. I’m sure Okazaki-san and Sunohara-san would be glad to meet you,” she hastily replied. Part of that haste was to shift to a different topic, the other part not wanting to hesitate. Ayumu still seemed to be on the fence about Drama, so pointing out that the other members would be glad to meet him would hopefully entice him to join. If the people are friendly, why not join a club?
Those two, however, had rather strong personalities. Someone as shy as him might have trouble dealing with them. She had trouble dealing with them sometimes; she didn’t know why, but she had a feeling that Sunohara might have some sort of affection for her. Hopefully that wasn’t true of course; Nagisa didn’t think herself that great, and hoped Sunohara would one day find someone else to fall in love with. As for Okazaki, well, he could come of as rude to someone who didn’t understand his kind of humor. Someone had to warn Ayumu of this, and she was the best person to do so it seems.
”Though, uhm, just so you understand, and I’m being as nice as I can about this, Sunohara-san and Okazaki-san do have really strong personalities. Sunohara-san is very excitable and energetic while Okazaki-san is a bit sarcastic. And both of them like to joke with people. I would understand very well if you didn’t want to be near such people.” she responded, trying to make the two boys sound pleasant, and letting Ayumu know she wasn’t trying to pressure him or anything.
When he brought up that she had been calling him Ayumu-san, however, Nagisa was a bit confused. Then she remember; his name was Mizukami Ayumu, and he was a second year. Technically, she should have been calling him Mizukami-kohai or something. She was being rather informal with him, but it was a bit too late now. Besides, he was friendly enough, so why not be a little more informal with him. Not close enough to use –chan, but enough she didn’t feel the need to use –kohai. Besides, she was held back a year, and probably looked more like a second year anyway due to her size. Nobody would know. Still, if he was using sempai, maybe he’d prefer she used kohai? Then again, he said he was glad she was using that.
”You’re welcome Ayumu-san. Admittedly it was a bit of a slip. I forgot I was technically a third year, but I guess it’s not too important now.” she responded politely.
Looking up at the clock, Nagisa noticed that lunchtime was starting to run short. If they wanted to make sure they weren’t late for class after it rang, they probably needed to get moving soon. She started to stand up, but realized she should explain what she was doing first.
”It’s starting to get late. Lunch should be over soon, but we can talk till we go our separate ways for class.”

denouement Whilst Mizukami Ayumu had been very self-conscious of his slip-ups and his awkwardness with dealing with Furukawa-san, it seemed like he wasn't as good with detecting awkwardness in other people. Well, he could have noticed the slight worry that his senpai, who he was very fond of, displayed upon his comment on her dream, but he was a little caught up in the conversation and the one he was having a conversation with. At any rate, he was glad the exchange of words was continuing, even though Furukawa didn't expound too much on her dream. Maybe he could ask her more about that, later, or another time. True, Furukawa-san may not be very... confident, but she was kind, and gentle, and he was sure there would probably be many people who would be confident, for her... and who would draw confidence from her, too. Well, eyes look outward; it wasn't always easy to see what others thought of you. Sometimes they don't tell you.
Furukawa-san's worry, however, made itself more present at the topic of her two comrades, Okazaki-senpai, and Sunohara-senpai. That, well, Ayumu did notice. What was she being... constrained about? It did not seem that the two people Furukawa-san were talking about were particularly nasty, and she seemed to trust them. Mizukami listened carefully to his upperclassman's description of the pair. She is... being nice... well, that was normal, but that could also mean that she might be downplaying the characteristics of the subjects a little... and a little can be very relative. The one called Sunohara-san... Sunohara-senpai, was excitable and energetic. Did it mean that he bounced all over the place, and that Okazaki-senpai and Furukawa-senpai had to fix all the boxes after he'd gone through? The boxes didn't seem to be moved about that much, though. The other one, Okazaki-san, the only thing Furukawa-san said about him, was that he was sarcastic. What could we bring sarcastic too, if we increase its magnitude...? His imagination failed him, this time.
At any rate, even if they were ridiculously atrocious, Furukawa-senpai seemed to be enduring them... well, endure was not the right word, it suggested some kind of tension, she seemed like she was all right with them, even if they possibly could be... ridiculously atrocious. True, Furukawa Nagisa-san was an avatar of patience, but he figured he could take it as well. Mizukami Ayumu said what was on his mind, as he finished chewing down another bite of his half-anpan. "Senpai." he started. "...if you're fine with them, then so am I." He realized that his statement may carry undertones... after he spoke, which seemed to be a recurring problem around Furukawa-senpai. He bristled a bit, more worried than scared. "I-I mean, I think I can handle them, since you could..."
He promptly shut up before he could say something more that could incriminate him, chomping down another bite of his anpan, trying to disguise his mistake. He only wanted to reassure his senpai that he wanted to be in the club... well, he was a writer, but that didn't mean he would function well enough as an actor... maybe he'll handle the script or something? Furukawa-san thanked him for what he pointed out. It seemed like that it didn't bother her, so it was okay. Furukawa-san had been calling me by my first name. Furukawa-san was calling by my first name. Furukawa-san is calling me by my first name! If he kept a diary, his entry today would be filled with exclamation points. He didn't have one, so he was having trouble carrying all those exclamation points around. They had a way of shaking.
It was around this point that Furukawa-senpai glanced at the time. He didn't dare do so. It was she who pointed out the lateness of the time; hopefully, he could still reach his classroom in time. Well, not that he cared that much, but he didn't want Furukawa-san to be late for class, and her room was a floor higher, in the other building; his was only on the second floor. He had vanquished his half of the shared lunch a little before his senpai's pronouncement, thanks to the largeness of his bites; it seemed even his voluntary slowness failed to abate his natural haste. Rubbing off the last remains of crumbs that stuck to the edges of his mouth, he followed his companion's example, rising.
"I'll consider joining your club, um, Furukawa-senpai." he muttered. Well, he was actually decided already. "Really." He was trying to make it clear. It might be funny at times that misunderstandings happen, but even if he couldn't be perfectly clear about himself and how he thought about Furukawa-senpai, he wanted to be at least clear with this little manner. A step is the atom of the journey. This was his. His step, that is.
Putting the chair back into the desk, he straighted himself up, took yet another full glance of his upperclassman, a side lighted a little by the sunlight from the windows... the picture would have been much better late afternoon, but he could make do with this image. Hastily cramming the vision, the scene into his mind, he blinked his eyes once, twice, and waited for Furukawa-senpai to lead the way. Ladies first. Also, he wasn't all that sure how to get back... he'll have to ensure that he could navigate his way through these olden corridors next time.
"Let us go, Furukawa-senpai."
OC: Technically, the -kohai isn't used; senpais don't have to be that polite to their kohais, at least in the animes I have watched. XD At the very least, however, a person like Nagisa would refer to somebody by their last name, followed by the -san. For example, Nagisa calls Tomoyo, Sakagami-san, and Yukine, Miyazawa-san. Well, she calls most of the main cast that way...[/size]

OOC: Just let me have my moment of researching Japanese culture XD. By the way, I apologize for this being short, but there wasn’t much I could respond to since it was mostly thoughts…
Nagisa waited nervously for a reaction from Ayumu about Tomoya and Sunohara. She had described them the best she could in a way that sounded positive, so he wouldn’t get scared off. It wasn’t like they were terrible people, it’s just with their reputation as ‘delinquents’, some people might get the wrong impression about them. Sure, they were a little rough, but once you got to know them they were great friends. Which is why she hoped that the reputation had not corrupted Ayumu’s opinion about them, and would judge them for who they really were.
So when Ayumu replied that he was fine with them as long as she was fine with them, she was relieved. This relief was even expressed through a slight sigh before she sat up straight with a smile. In her relief she failed to notice the worrisome way he added in about him being able to handle them if she could handle them. In Nagisa’s mind, it just meant that since they had such a similar personality, they would theoretically be able to deal with them in similar ways. Though Nagisa really hoped that Tomoya wouldn’t pick on him that much; Tomoya could be rather heavy-handed at times. Sunohara would probably be fine, if maybe a little heartbroken about having ‘another rival’ or something.
When Ayumu quickly got quiet, however, Nagisa noticed. This time she couldn’t think of any reason for him to be like that. Though since he did take a bite of his anpan, she assumed he just wanted to finish eating before time was up. Since she was done, Nagisa simply sat patiently, but as the clock ticked closer and closer to the end of lunch, the two of them were forced to make their way out. Nagisa let him out first, and followed out right behind him. With a little bit of haste she was able to catch up to him, and walked right beside her.
Upon hearing that he would consider joining the club, Nagisa’s face lit up with joy. Someone actually wanted to join the Drama Club! While underneath all the joy Nagisa had a lot of worries, for once she was going to just focus on the joy. All of this talking actually led to someone wanting to join, and Tomoya wasn’t there to help her with it! That had to be some sign that she was getting stronger, right? To be able to talk with someone about something personal without breaking down and clamping up? Not wanting her joy to scare him off, however (there was something a bit creepy about a person who was too happy), Nagisa tuned it down some. Still, she had a rather cheerful smile on when she turned to talk to him.
”Thank..thank you for considering it.” she politely replied, with a hint of her happiness in her voice.
As the two of them walked, Nagisa started the way towards her classroom, but then remembered that he would have to go to the second year rooms. That meant that they would have to split up soon, but they could remain together for at least a little while. Besides, he might need help with the old building; not many people remembered it’s paths, but being her for three years and this one meant she had a good knowledge of the route. Taking a slight lead, she let Ayumu follow her.

parting They were on their way.
It seemed Furukawa-senpai did not recognize the reason for his abrupt silence a little while ago. He was probably unnecessarily conscious of himself, yet again. Well, he could not help it; there were certain things you noticed and you did under certain pertinent stimuli, and some of the best catalysts are found in those things you are fond of, those people you admire and like. Ayumu wondered if he was being untrue to himself, in a way. His shyness, if you wanted to call it shyness, normally operated in a different manner than the tempered and considerate bashfulness of his senpai. It sometimes might be even considered apathy, but before his senpai, who he had not seen for a very long time, until now... it seemed his variety of shyness could hold a smoother, purer side, not unlike his senpai's.
There were many other things that Ayumu noticed. He wasn't usually a person of details, for details, but there were things that simply caught your eye, like hooks you will be delighted to hang from. He had paid attention to his senior's most minute gestures, that sometimes he wondered if he was doing something wrong. People did not simply sit still; they played with their fingers, they shuffled their feet, they sat properly, they slumped. Usually, Ayumu would notice this if he was bored, but he was far from bored. He enjoyed observing Furukawa-senpai. It was like he was reading a book, although that might be too mundane a comparison, and he was sure he probably still had many pages to read of Furukawa-senpai, and there might always be pages he will never know. It might also seem so shallow, to extract happiness from seeing someone adored, someone appreciated, though Ayumu might not yet be ready to say that Furukawa-senpai is someone loved...
And now she walks ahead of him. She takes smaller steps than he, and he, who was often used to striding, soles slipping through the floor like some hasty snake, instinctively slowing down. It was like when they were eating anpan. He paid only half attention, or even less, to the paths they were traversing, even though he probably would be needing to know them if he was going to visit Furukawa's clubroom again. The owner of the clubroom was more interesting than the twist and turn of the corridors, the spin and drudgery of the stairs. She had a careful manner to everything, and Ayumu wondered if he could ever replicate it, if anybody else could. It was as if she was ready to step back any moment, in case somebody needed the space, the right of way. He wondered if he was right in approximating his senpai's weaknesses, though he could very much argue that they were her strengths as well.
She turned to him, with his last pronouncement, with the statement that he had put effort in to make clear. She looked happier... happier than any time since he had accompanied her. He actually realized why people wrote that there were moments when the heart skipped. He was sure his floated for a minute there. He wondered if he looked like a fool again, like when Furukawa-senpai suddenly turned up in front of him. He had been very privileged today, and that was an understatement. He didn't mind dying today, but that would be inconvenient, since Furukawa-senpai might get sad. He didn't mind... any misfortune for this day. This day was the best.
He unconsciously smiled back, and even though he could not match the brilliance that exuded from his beloved acquaintance's face, he could at least match that sincerity, unclouded. He had always been a little cloudy. "It is you who I must thank, Furukawa-senpai." Or perhaps not, after all. He hoped no twinkle of his eye would betray him. Perhaps it would take a while before he truly had the courage to be truly sincere. That hint of happiness... he never thought he could bring delight to she who so effortlessly delights him.
He put his hands in his pockets. They were deep. He would have a lot to think about. Abruptly, the bell rang; the first bell. The first bell was the warning, the second bell was the real thing, the real marker of the hour. They were at the stairs of the new building already. Perhaps he had been too busy watching. He hoped he did not make Furukawa-senpai uncomfortable with the silence while he swam in his thoughts.
"Senpai, it was really nice to see you again." he said, as he ascended. The second floor was the part where they would split; she would go on up, and he, to his classroom. They were almost there, at that fork. There was a reason farewell was farewell, right? "See you...later... again."
With the slightest of bows, he excused himself. The time may have been short, but he could still taste the anpan, and something else sweeter... farewell meant... that the other be all right enough... for another meeting... for a rendezvous... again.
It would take a while for Mizukami Ayumu to be able to respond to questions thrown by the teacher in the class after lunch.
OC: That's all right, AL. I think I haven't outdone you many times. I usually have a hard time making mine longer. XD My Japanese culture info are all taken from anime and manga, so it isn't always a good reference.
I'm sorry! Ayumu is normally a little passive, so he doesn't really do much in the real world. XD
I think I kind of sort of ended it already. Last post is yours, AL?

Apparently telling him that she was happy made Ayumu happy, as he was smiling at her in return. Nagisa took it to mean that Ayumu was just the kind of person who liked to see other people happy, improving her already good opinion of the boy even further. He seemed kind of distracted by it though, which caused her to lessen her smile. Maybe she had gotten too excited about it and embarrassed him a little? Well, she could understand that. She’d be a little nervous too if someone was absolutely beaming at her about something she said. While she could be a bit ditzy at times, Nagisa wasn’t stupid. If something she was doing was making someone uncomfortable, she knew to stop it.
That was the last thing she wanted to do; to be a bother to someone, to make them do things they didn’t want to do. She had been like that ever since she was little, something that still haunts her to this day. This feeling she did something once that upset her parents, something bad. Nagisa’s mood dipped into depression for a second, but the reminder that Ayumu-san was still there brought her back up to normal. He didn’t need to be bothered by her own problems, not after having such a pleasant time. He really seemed to have enjoyed their time together, if it was rather uneventful outside of him considering to join the Drama Club.
Ayumu thanked her for something. Nagisa wasn’t exactly sure what it was that he was thanking her for. Did she doing something for him? Whatever the case, the polite thing to do was to respond to it, so she gave him a small ”You’re welcome.” Even if she was completely clueless as to what it was that she had done, she didn’t want to disappoint him by not acknowledging whatever it was she did. Though her mind did begin to wander about, trying to figure out what it was that she did. Maybe he was thanking her for the lunch? If he didn’t bring lunch normally, having someone provide it for you was something nice. That had to be it; it was the only thing she had done for him really.
At that time the warning bell rang, and Nagisa knew she needed to hurry. Considering she never had issues being late in the past, she’d only get a warning, she didn’t want to be late. It only interrupted the class, which was rather bothersome. But right before she started to head off, however, Ayumu said his good-byes, and asked to see here again later.
”Nice to see you again as well. Maybe we could meet up again for lunch sometime.”
.As they reached the fork, Nagisa’s mind drifted back at the thought of having another member of the Drama Club. Wait, the Drama Club! She probably needed to let him know what times they all met. Well, Okazaki-san, Sunohara-san, and her met at least. Was that a big enough group to use ‘they’ with? She was technically the only member of the club, though for all intents and purposes those other two were members as well. Now wasn't the time to deal with semantics. She needed to give Ayumu this information before they all left.
”Oh, I almost forgot to say when we meet. If you’re interested in joining, we meet in that room after school, well, just about everyday or so. Okazaki and Sunohara-san don’t really have much else to do, which makes it easy to meet.” she added in with some slight haste.
After that, she gave him a slight wave goodbye as she rushed down the hallway to her next class. She arrived just in time as the second bell rang just as she sat down in her chair. The run caused her to pant a little, but that was all right. A little hardship after such a pleasant lunch was something she could deal with.
