Description:
Kirishima Anzu is seen by others as a petite, delicate-looking girl, who resembles a cute little animal. She has slender frame with the height of 1.60 metres (5 feet 3 inches), and a humble cup size (A-cup). Anzu has brownish-black hair, which is kept at shoulder length and tend to partially cover her eyes when let down. Her round eyes has the same color as her hair, but complemented by a distinct gleam. She has a small mouth, alongside a soft, sweet voice.
Anzu is very proper when it comes to her school uniform, with her blouse always tucked in. She also likes to wear kneesocks when going to school in the winter uniform, and shorter ones in the case of summer uniforms. On the other hand, she doesn't want to expose herself too much when wearing casual clothes, and therefore tends to wear trousers, long-sleeved blouses, and sometimes even a big hat. However, if she is coerced enough or gains sufficient confidence, she can go outside in more revealing clothes like a miniskirt and a tank top, and even wear her hair back.
Being a Shinto priest's daughter, Anzu works part-time at her father's shrine as a miko (shrine maiden), and hence takes part in preparing and performing in the local summer festival.
Anzu is quite skilled with the naginata, having trained with it since middle school. Despite her impression as a studious girl, she enjoys reading manga and light novels in her free time. She also has a penchant for pastries, and hence a regular at the Furukawa bakery.
Personality:

The most significant aspect of Anzu's personality is her kindness. She always thinks of others' welfare before herself, not just her family and friends, but also total strangers. Hence she is known as an extreme doormat, or a "good samaritan". In fact, once she wants to help somebody, she can be too enthusiastic to the point that she totally forgets about her other tasks at hand.
Anzu is a bright girl, whose intellect she always tries to downplay. She always asserts that she is not smart, but simply a hard worker, and she only "knows what she knows".
Anzu, due to her friendly personality, tends to get along easily with other girls her age. She values her relationship with her peers, and tries to avoid anything that can damage her friendships. On the other hand, she feels a bit uncomfortable around boys, since she has only gone to girl schools prior to attending Hikarizaka High, and her father is the only male in her household.
Due to being a rather sickly girl when she was young, and her conditions only improved to near normal level when she went to middle school, Anzu always desires to be stronger physically, in order not to be a burden to her parents, her younger sister, or anyone else. That's why she tends to do everything by herself, even though her family worries that she can be bedridden anytime due to overwork. This also motivates her to train in the way of the naginata, alongside ceremonial duties in the local summer festival. She also admires boisterous and outspoken women, hence has become a fan of Fujibayashi Kyou shortly after entering Hikarizaka High.
Despite her impression as a sweet innocent girl, Anzu has a hidden perverted side, due to being influenced by various female peers. Just a small trigger will be enough to spark her powerful "imagination", which embarrasses her to no end, and makes her rather reluctant to be close to the opposite sex, which can be quite a problem if there is a guy she likes.
History:
Anzu is the first daughter of the Kirishima household. Her father, Hisashi, is a Shinto priest who owns the local shrine in Hikarizaka. Her mother, Yukiko, is a middle school teacher, who spent the last three years being the homeroom teacher of her daughter's class. Anzu also have a younger sister named Yuka, who is currently in third year of primary school.
Anzu did not enjoy a comfortable childhood despite being born into an average family who have no problem sustaining themselves. In fact, her health conditions were rather unstable when she was younger. Despite having no life-threatening disease, her body was much more susceptible to common ailments like colds and flus than a normal person, leaving her bedridden and forced her to take several days off from school. This leads to an isolated childhood, her desire to make friends, and to make herself stronger, so that she wouldn't be a burden to anybody. This also lead her to be eager to help anybody, as she feels that she had already been helped a lot in the past, and it's time to return all the favors.
When she reached middle-school age, her health conditions started to improve significantly, making her much more cheerful and outgoing. Then, upon learning that she would be bestowed with the duty of performing the naginata dance ritual every year once she got old enough, being the local priest's eldest daughter, she gladly accepts right away, which surprised her parents, and started training with the naginata since then. Anzu thought that she can gets physically stronger by learning a form of martial arts, and the ritual dance is a chance for her to express herself more, not just the sense of duty of a daughter. However, there are times when she wonders that whether the shrine is her only destiny, and whether she can cast her own stone.
Being a studious girl, she had little trouble scoring well in the Hikarizaka High's entrance exam, the most prestigious school in the area. However, even though she had already known beforehand that the school was co-ed, she was still embarrassed as hell when entering the school for the first time. She still managed to get along with nearly every female student of her class, even though they tried to get along with her for various reasons (her inherent cuteness which is not unlike stuffed animals, her studying ability, her selfless attitude, or even curiosity about her part-time occupation). However, she is a bit irked by the class' male population's reaction when she was introduced for the first time, which totally overwhelmed her. Many of them even try to flirt with her numerous times. This has caused her to wonder whether the opposite sex is too inconsiderate, and whether she can keep acting nice to them.

Anzu is standing alone in the shrine's main hall. The door is closed now, but during the festival, this will be a stage, open for others to see. If she can't even do it right in an enclosed space, there's no way she can satisfy a crowd.
In her right hand is the ceremonial naginata, the one she will perform with. Her training polearm has been her companion for so long, and feels lighter than this one, not just because of the difference in the amount of steel.
"It's time to test the real thing". She speaks to herself, trying not to worry about the weight in her hands. After all, she has thoroughly studied the moves in the ritual, and has done all of them fluidly in the training polearm. Heavy or not, it should not be so hard... right?
She starts raising the weapon, moves her body, and commences the training session. It really is heavy to swing this thing around. But that doesn't make her flinch one bit. Even though her movements are rather erratic, she decides to go with the flow until the end. Then start over. One more time. Then one more. Try not to think about the weight so much, she says to herself. Go with the flow, like a sailboat in the wind, like a leaf floating down a stream. Feel it with the whole of your body, feel you are totally unbound to the Earth.
Those lessons really help, as she slowly but surely going through the motions with more and more confidence, her feet become firmer, her mind becomes more focused. Just her and the blade. Even though she has to think all the time when doing her schoolwork, it feels really special just from letting her senses do the work.
