The dark haired genius squeezed her arm as her left hand held her right arm firmly. She couldn’t help but feel nervous being in an area she rarely visited. She couldn’t remember the last time she was in this area, actually. It was rather scary traveling to unfamiliar places. It was why the young maiden always shopped at the same stores week after week. She stayed in the same spot in the library instead of attending class in few of encountering unfamiliar situations. Unfamiliarity led to danger in her mind; it was because her parents were unfamiliar with America that their plane became lost at sea. It was also why she did her best to study different languages. Unfamiliarity with a foreign student’s customs and manners might have lead to dangerous situations. For instance, in Spain the event Running of the Bulls was something men did to show others how manly they were. While the true reason was to move the bulls, the men running with them were just showing their bravado. In turn, it meant a transfer student from Spain might try to do something very dangerous to impress a girl. But without knowing the culture implications behind it, a Japanese girl would just think it’s stupid.
Regardless of her fears and uncertainties, Kotomi was being pushed by an invisible force: her urge for approval. She had told the teacher that told her about this place she would appear. It was supposed to be a simple meeting between the school’s brightest and a very highly ranked school from America. There wasn’t any expectations on either side, she assured Kotomi. She simply needed to travel to this fancy hotel in nice clothing. And so Kotomi tried to best to find a nice white and brown dress accompanied by lovely brown and blue heeled sandals. She did her hair neatly, having it all up instead of her normal style. The teenage girl genuinely tried her best to look sophisticated for such an event. A few other students from other schools were going to attend the event as well, not that she was sure she’d know anyone. The slight introvert girl could feel her stomach turning as she walked into the hotel and a few people looked at her. She couldn’t help but to retreat to the sitting area and grab the large book off the coffee table. While there was soothing music playing, Kotomi didn’t feel calmed. With each page she turned in the massive book, her nerves still shook.
It was a rather nice hotel, but Kotomi only had images from the internet and magazines to base her assumptions. She had never stayed in a hotel before since she never left town. And since she was also in town, she could merrily stay in her own house. Leaving her house was unable to ever leave her house; if she left and her parents returned then they would return to emptiness. It was her biggest fear in life. The second was mean people. In her house she could happily await the arrival of her parents and avoid scary people. Everything worked itself out perfectly that way. Today was no different than any other day. Even if she was currently at a nice hotel in a nice outfit listening to the piano player in the lounge, she had no intentions of staying the night here. Kotomi had to return home since she had a schedule to keep, which in turn made this whole meeting unnecessary. She was planning to travel to America. It would be too far from her house and her parents would never find her. The only worse fate of going to America would be her plane fall into the same trouble as her parents. With both of them lost at sea, finding one another would be impossible!
The shy girl was still reading when an unfamiliar man tapped her on her exposed shoulder. Kotomi nearly screamed in fear as she felt the old man’s warm hand’s against her skin. Still, she did her best to remain calm. The moment she saw his blonde and white hair odd mustache, she knew he was one of the gentlemen that she was meeting with. He looked like the perfect stereotype for the older American male. Placidly she placed the book back on the table and rose up. The man offered a gentle smile under his mustache before escorting her to the elevator. The banquet was going to be held on the second floor ballroom of the hotel.
