As she worked, occasionally her head bobbed up for a moment or two with a bright smile, truly enjoying investing her time in something that would have been boring for just about anyone else. However, Haruka felt she could do anything and it would end up great, as long as she worked together with Gourlay. They were two meticulous people, far from the careless who messed up and broke creatures, people and things before retreating back into their flighty fantasies and pleasures. She appreciated that with all her heart.
Amber light pierced through window shutters, softly bathing the two class representatives with honey gold as the girl worked and the boy waited for the time to pass. Little did she know that it would already be four o' clock by the time she was done. With her cheeks flushed up in embarrassment, Haruka was worried she wasted too much of his time.
His kind, warm words reassured her that the matters he had to attend to weren't an emergency, but she couldn't help but wonder what he was being troubled about because it wasn't a serious kind of dread, more like expecting humiliation. It was an expression one could almost pity or even jeer at, even Haruka, believe it or not, but she wouldn't let it press on further if she could do anything about the situation, as comical as it could be.
Three minutes: it took three more minutes for them to force more meager words out of their mouths, but that was just fine. "It's not a problem, though we should probably give this to the student council together tomorrow. I think we're just about done, but they would appreciate it if we presented it as a team of sorts. Anyway, we don't even have to present it as a final copy. I'm sure that one of the members could spare a few moments of their time to check our progress, seeing how important a project is. There's a need for caution with big things like this." The freshwoman spoke coolly and calculatedly yet there was a passion in her eyes, a desire to see the job get done no matter how mundane it was. Not everything was about being flashy.
Then her eyes danced with a feeling of accomplishment and happiness, glad she had made a new friend today. Social situations between the two were awkward, but the first year was pleased to know a friend who would be loyal and true to her and vice versa. Perhaps, she assumed, all the struggles and bumps would be in the beginning, until they could talk smoothly together. Other than that, the brunette could predict no more problems.
"Good job today, Gourlay. I'll see you soon," she called out softly, giving him a pronounced but not superfluous wave and goodbye.

He didn't try to make the expression he did, it more of a subconscious response to his father's antics and such. It was a only to be expected, after all. Such a father as his would make any child perform such an action, he supposed. But, he couldn't deny he loved the not-so-old man, for he did with all his heart. (Or maybe just a quarter of it.) He wholeheartedly agreed with her plan, and was glad that she'd further cooperate with him in the future. It had then been yet to dawn on him that he'd might've finally made a true friend on that day, however clichéd it might've sounded. "That would probably be for the best, thank you, by the way. I really do appreciate it." And he did. He was happy that such an odd day occurred, so few of them did. And he appreciated every one of them. Like he'd appreciated the other day with the encounter with the student. And, though he was saddened to say, she'd transferred out the other day. To where, he could not say. But, wherever it was, he hoped it was great place.
On other matters, Gourlay was slightly befuddled in the fact that all this started with a disorganized closed, but he wasn't ungrateful for it. And, as she left and uttered her goodbyes, he spoke his goodbyes as well. "Goodbye, Fuukami. Have a wonderful day."
And as she walked away and he walked away, both to the same destination, though they were headed to different locations, he was happy.
The End
