Nagisa Furukawa ___________________________________________________________________________ ”Dango, Dango, Dango, Dango. Danga Daikazoku…” Nagisa happily sung to herself as she sat at the small table in the backroom of the store.
It was a day off from school, and Nagisa was supposed to be attending to the store. After the morning rush, however, nobody ever really came in, so it was safe to hide out in the back till someone did show up. Right now she was making some tea, but that wasn’t the important task she was singing for. No, that was being reserved for something even bigger; the posters for the Drama Club.
After the meeting with Tomoya and Sunohara, Nagisa was given the task to create posters for the Drama Club. They needed to be the best posters ever if she wanted to get the three members she needed for the Drama Club to be reinstated. She had tried to get Tomoya and Sunohara to join, but they were steadfast in their resolve not to. Admittedly she had given up rather quickly on recruiting them, but considering that they were spending their time helping her, she didn’t want to pressure them. Too much pressure and she might have been seen as pushy, which might have scared them off.
There was a glimmer of hope though; that boy Ayumu-san had showed an interest in joining. It took a small lunch and some time with him, but he seemed rather nice so Nagisa didn’t mind at all. That was one member down; she still needed to get two more to join. That was where the posters were coming in. Since she didn’t have a computer/printer set up, they were all going to have to be drawn by hand. She didn’t mind at all though. Considering the theme of the posters, Nagisa was perfectly happy to labor over them. Nothing cheered her up more than seeing the cute, smiling faces of the Dango Daikazoku. All of them so happy with their big, loving family surrounding them. How could one not be happy looking at them?
As the tea finished up, Nagisa grabbed a glass and poured herself some. Waiting a few seconds for it to cool off, she took a sip as she walked over to the table and sat down on the floor. Grabbing a blue crayon, she started coloring in the latest dango she had drawn. This was supposed to be a boy dango; he was rough on the outside, but his inside was pure sweetness. Nagisa liked to joke he had a crush on the pink dango that was nearby; the shy but secretly strong one. That sounded just like her, didn’t it? Except she didn’t think herself that strong; Okazaki-san was the strong one. Without him, well, she probably wouldn’t have been able to get up that hill, or find the Drama Club as a reason to go to that school again. So there was no way she could disappoint herself or Okazaki-san; she was going to finish these posters. Hopefully today wouldn’t be a busy day. Nagisa Furukawa ___________________________________________________________________________ With another poster finished, Nagisa set it carefully on the stack. She had a good 10, maybe 15 posters or so done. The plan was to make at least 20 or so; that would be enough to grab people’s attention to the Drama Club, right? How could one ignore the adorable Dango Daikazoku anyway? Such a loving family like that was guaranteed to attract at least one person to the club. Taking one last glance at the poster, she set it down and stood up. Her legs were asleep from sitting for so long, so she shook them a little bit and moved around to wake them up.
Soon her legs were back to normal, and she was free to move around again. Of course, she really didn’t have anywhere else to go right now. Business was slow, and her parents were off on another one of their runs. Dad had made a joke about Sanae’s bread, she was behind him, and well, off they went like normal. Nagisa was left to run the shop, but no one usually came after the morning so it really didn’t matter what she did now. That was what gave her the time to make her posters, but she needed a break from them. This was a conundrum for her, wasn’t it? Nothing to do, no one around, yet she needed something.
Seeing as it was around noon or so, Nagisa decided to eat lunch. It would just be something simple and quick; a nice bit of anpan would do the trick. The bread was available, but she didn’t like to take the bread her parents made to sell without paying. Taking some money, she placed it into the cash register and closed it. It was just enough to pay for one anpan, which she promptly took. Since there was no point staying in the shop in the moment, Nagisa decided to take advantage of the beautiful day and relax outside. Since they had no benches, however, she would have to drag a chair.
In a few minutes, Nagisa was outside, dragging a chair with the anpan held in her mouth. With a huff she set the chair into place right outside the shop. Sitting down, Nagisa looked up at the sky; big, blue, and barely any clouds. A nice, sunny day; that always made her glad. It was also rather warm out today. Once her parents got back she could see about taking a walk and enjoy it. Till then, however, she had to be content with sitting her eating her anpan. Maybe someone else took advantage of the day for a walk around town? ___________________________________________________________________________

I'm in the business of misery, let's take it from the top. She's got a body like an hourglass that's ticking like a clock. It's a matter of time before we all run out. When I thought he was mine, she caught him by the mouth. I waited eight long months, she finally set him free. I told him I can't lie; he was the only one for me. Two weeks, and we had caught on fire. She's got it out for me, but I wear the biggest smile. Kyou wasn't often one to wander the city in which she lived aimlessly, but today just seemed to be one of those days that she felt the absolute need to do so. Nobody was around, it was a weekend, and she had nothing much to do other than wander around. Her sister was busy with other things, so here she was, with Botan in her arms, strolling down the street without any specific destination in mind. Perhaps she'd get lucky and run into Tomoya, but she doubted that. He was probably doing other, more "important" things. So long as she didn't run into anybody that was getting in cahoots with her sister, she wouldn't have to find any inanimate objects to chuck across a probably-vast area.
"Jee, I really wish there was actually something interesting to do," Kyou whined, blowing out a stream of breath in a display of her absolute boredom. In one arm she carried her pet boar, Botan, who was happily staying quiet and enjoying the view, and in the other she held a popsicle, happily taking a lick or two of it to keep her from overheating in the baking sun. She was dressed in a pair of yellow shorts and an orange tank top, with her long, thick purple locks tied up in a ponytail to keep it out of her face. In her hair was the same lace-like accessory as always, worn on the left side to distinguish her as Kyou instead of Ryou, although the hairstyle would have given it away.
As she walked along, Kyou noticed something... She saw a girl that she recognized dragging a chair outside, obviously to enjoy the sun. There was also something held in her mouth... It looked like a piece of anpan, perhaps. It was then that she realized the girl was in front of the Furukawa Bakery, and that the girl she was recognizing was most likely Furukawa Nagisa, a girl who was in her class. So much for having everybody's names memorized, or so she'd thought. She nearly wanted to hit herself for not remembering. Then again, she could also blame it on the fact that Nagisa was such a quiet girl, rarely noticed by anybody because of her timid nature.
Strolling quite casually up to the girl, Kyou let a small, welcoming smile cross her features. "Hey there, Nagisa," she greeted, waving the hand that held her popsicle and stopping to at least be attentive to whatever conversation would follow, even if it was rather short. "It's such a nice day out, isn't it?" Okay, so perhaps the statement was a little awkward and off for what Kyou usually talked about, but what else could she talk about with a girl she'd hardly associated with? Best off to start with something that would be, well, easy to converse about, right?
Second chances, they don't ever matter; people never change. Once a whore, you're nothing more, I'm sorry; that'll never change. And about forgiveness we're both supposed to have exchanged I'm sorry honey, but I'm passing up, now look this way! Well, there's a million other girls who do it just like you Looking as innocent as possible to get to who they want And what they like; it's easy if you do it right! Well, I refuse, I refuse, I REFUSE!

Nagisa Furukawa ___________________________________________________________________________ Nagisa was still eating her anpan quietly. It was about halfway finished when she spotted someone else coming up the road. Not wanting to be rude, Nagisa placed the bread back into the wrapper and folded it neatly. As the girl came close to the point that Nagisa could see who it was, she was standing up ready to greet her with a polite bow.
”Good morning.” Nagisa said before smiling as the girl approached. Her mind started digging through information trying to remember who exactly this girl was. Long, purple hair with a lace accessory, carrying a pig, and taller than her. Who was it that fit that description? While she waited for the answer, she responded to the girl’s questioning.
”Yes, it is a rather nice day. I had brought my lunch out here so I could enjoy the light while I ate…would you like something to eat? The bread is still rather fresh.” Nagisa replied, trying to be polite to the guest.
”I think my mom’s special flavor today is Ocean Delight. Something about ‘enjoying the taste of the sea-salt air’ or something like that,” Nagisa looked around to make sure her mother wasn’t around,”Though I may suggest you not try one of those. My mother tries rather hard, but she doesn’t make the greatest bread sometimes.”
Nagisa’s mind finally hit upon on who this was. It was one of the Fujibayashi twins! Nagisa remembered that last year the twins had gotten sort of known throughout the school. She hadn’t met either of them last year, but she had heard of them. The ‘younger’ one Ryou was supposed to have short hair and was a rather shy person, sort of like herself. This girl had long hair though and seemed rather confident in her herself. If that was the case, then this girl had to be Kyou, the ‘older twin’. That really didn’t explain the pig though. Still, it was a rather adorable pig, and it looked pretty comfortable in the girl’s arms.
”You have a really adorable pig there. Would you mind if I pet it?” Nagisa asked, not wanting to be rude and pet it without asking. Some people could get rather possessive about their pets, not wanting others to touch them. Besides, this pig could just be secure with Kyou only and might bite others. Nagisa doubted that since he looked so adorable, but being safe wouldn’t hurt anything. ___________________________________________________________________________

Daniel sighed. This was the first real time when he'd been able to truly rest and kick back. While he had already known how to speak Japanese, reading kanji was a different thing entirely and he'd spent much of his time doing his homework. Now though, it looked like he could relax and take it easy. What better way than to take a walk and get himself familiar with the areas around the school?
So, Dan decided he'd just start out in one direction until he found something interesting, and then he'd check that out before moving on. So far he hadn't found much. He thought about changing his path a few times, but ruled against it. After all, he'd picked this direction for his first time out, and by gosh he was going to keep it! That is...until he had to get back on campus. He still hadn't fully unpacked.
Maybe that's why I wanted to take a walk...those boxes...they remind me too much of my previous moves. I'd throw them out if I could get away with it. He sighed and rustled a hand through his golden brown hair. Oh well...I do need some of those things. Next move I'm not bringing half of what I did this time... Dan shook his head. He didn't want to think about moves. At all if it were possible, and even then for as long as he could avoid the subject.
He looked up into the bright sunny sky and kept walking often a head taller than anyone else on the street. That was the sort of thing that happened when you weren't fully Japanese, like Dan was. He sighed quietly, at least the streets were fairly empty, so the difference was as glaringly obvious as it was at school. Well, with the crowds being nonexistant--
Dan spotted something from the corner of his eye and brought his attention down from the sunny sky. It looked like some kind of shop, and there were a couple of girls standing outside it. They looked somewhat familiar, and Dan reasoned that they probably went to the same school he did. Well, he did resolve to check out anything interesting, and this was by far the most interesting thing he'd seen all day. It didn't look like much else was out this way anyways.
He walked up towards the entrance of the shop and glanced in the windows as he came closer to the two girls out front. A bread shop...I should try something, I suppose. "Ummm, hello. It's a nice day today isn't it?"

Kyou was considerably surprised that Nagisa wasn't all that shy when talking to her. She'd always taken her to be overly introverted and unable to talk to people... But apparently that wasn't quite the case. Perhaps she was just quiet because she liked to be, or didn't like to attract attention. All in all, she was a really nice girl, Kyou could tell, simply from the tone of her voice and the way she acted. Even the way she offered some bread was quite kind, but it was much too bad that Kyou actually wasn't all that hungry. The young teen raised an eyebrow at the rather odd name of the special bread of the day... Ocean Delight? Must'vme really salty bread, then, and Kyou didn't want to have to wait for water or anything. Kindely she passed off the offer.
"Ah, that's quite all right; I already ate," Kyou replied with a smile. Nagisa then asked if she could pet Botan, and from what Kyou could tell, she could trust Nagisa with her little pet pig. She didn't look like the type that was going to squeeze the crap out of Botan and reduce him to a pancake, after all, not like some of the little children she'd seen in the park had probably wanted to do. With a smile, Kyou nodded. "Sure," she replied, and carefully handed the boar to Nagisa. Just then, however, a boy came up, speaking what seemed to be a very unsure greeting towards the two girls.
It was strange for once that Kyou found herself looking, literally, up to speak to the boy. Holy shit, he's tall, she thought, her jaw dropping mentally. And pretty fine looking too, but that's not something to think about, now is it? Mentally chiding herself and regaining her composure, Kyou kept on that friendly smile, the smile that usually hid her devilish interior. One could swear she had a dual personality or something... a "Jekyll and Hyde", if you would.
"It's a beautiful day outside!" Kyou exclaimed, throwing both hands up in the air in glee. "No dealing with stupid Sunohara or his sidekick-turned-meat-shield Tomoya so I can rest my arms for once!" Now she was just getting a little more bold... As she took a position to lean against the wall with her arms crossed, she studied Daniel's face. He looked new... Ah, he must've been the new kid in their class. She, as class representative, had heard about it, which probably meant she should be the one to give him an introduction and show him around. Or maybe she'd get one of the guys to... They might be able to get along with him a little better. She didn't know how he'd end up taking her badmouthed and considerably vulgar tendencies. Today she was just being rather... Tame.
Second chances, they don't ever matter; people never change. Once a whore, you're nothing more, I'm sorry; that'll never change. And about forgiveness we're both supposed to have exchanged I'm sorry honey, but I'm passing up, now look this way! Nagisa Furukawa ___________________________________________________________________________ Nagisa noticed the weird glance Kyou gave her at the mention of “Ocean Delight”. She could forgive the girl for the reaction, though her mother had made weirder in the past. Still, only the people in the neighborhood really understood the entire situation. Her mother would try and make these fancy breads, her father would insult them without knowing she was behind him, she’d run off, and he’d chase her. It was always so amusing, and a testament to how much they love each other. How else would her father be able to eat her bread every day and chase her down, and how else would she suffer the insults for so long?
Still, Nagisa was a little sad that Kyou had said she had already ate. That kind of left her with nothing else to do…till Kyou said she could pet Botan. Nagisa’s face lit up at the thought of it. Carefully taking a hold of the boar, Nagisa gently held him in her arms.
”He’s very soft.” She said, complimenting the boar’s fur as she started to pet him gently over the back. He was such an adorable little boar, though Nagisa did have to wonder how Kyou was taking care of him. Didn’t boars get pretty pig when they grew? Where was she going to get the room to take care of him when that finally happened? Then again, it wasn’t her business to pry into that. Instead, she would just enjoy the moment and continue to pet the boar.
It was at that time, however, that another person arrived the scene, a very tall person for that matter. Nagisa was already shorter than Kyou; this guy simply dwarfed her. Nagisa wasn’t scared though; she was used to being a bit small and frail so larger people didn’t scare her that much. Besides, his unsure greeting showed he was rather nervous; he wasn’t scary at all.
”Good morning.” Nagisa replied rather calmly compared to Kyou’s joyous glee. Nagisa, however, was little disheartened by her comments on Tomoya and Sunohara. They weren’t that bad, were they? They had been completely kind to her, and she felt like she had to defend them to some degree.
”Okazaki-san and Sunohara-san aren’t that bad…” she replied to Kyou, and actually showing some spirit in it. However, remembering that they had a guest there at the moment who might not actually know anything about it, and could be a customer, the argument would have to be put aside. Setting Botan down, give him a slight shove back towards Kyou, Nagisa turned her attention towards the newcomer.
”Is there something I can help you with today? Our special bread of the day is Ocean’s Delight. My mother made it, and you’re supposed to be able to ‘taste the delight of seaside air’ or something. Of course we also have normal bread as well.” she said, smiling softly to put the guy at ease, though it looked kind of childish since she had to look up at him. "Th-thank you. I'd like to try some of that." Dan nodded. The girls both looked nice enough, and even though it for all intents and purposes looked like may have interrupted some sort of conversation between the two. Oh, well, they probably wouldn't mind. He was a new foreign student and didn't know his way around, etc. It made things helpful when you made social faux pas and didn't know about it. Someone would just correct him and then he'd go on with his life.
Well, he'd done worse foibles in his life than merely interrupting a conversation between a couple of class-mates. That is...if they were classmates of his. Dan wasn't entirely sure if they were or not. It was one thing about his height that made things occasionally irritating and confusing is that he was taller than most of his teachers here.
"Um, how much is it?" He began to rustle through his pockets for any spare cash he had. After finding a wad of Euros that he must have forgotten to get exchanged, he found some money of the right kind in his pocket.
As he pulled it out, he looked down and saw the boar. Now he'd seen all kinds of pets, but he'd never actually seen a pet boar before. That was different, and the thing was smaller than he expected. He kneeled down to take a look at Botan. "That's a boar, right?" Dan asked the long-haired girl. "He's a little guy isn't he?" Dan didn't reach out for it. Animals didn't hate him, but sometimes they didn't get along with him, so he decided to simply stay there and if the boar showed interest in him so be it.
"Oh! I forgot to introduce myself, I'm Daniel, but it's easier if you just call me Dan."

Kyou snorted slightly at Nagisa's comment, but for much different reasons than what the girl might have thought. Kyou was snorting because she knew that Tomoya wasn't that bad himself... Perhaps a bit blunt at times, and considerably unlucky to be caught with the biggest troublemaker out there - Sunohara - but she thought it was quite funny that the girl believed Sunohara to be not all that bad. If anything, Sunohara was the worst of the guys at their school that she'd ever met.
"Sunohara is a troublemaker. Tomoya's either just unlucky enough or stupid enough to be caught whenever Sunohara is causing such trouble... So nobody can guess whether he's the good Samaritan or not," Kyou replied to explain her short bout of laughter. Soon Dan introduced himself, and Kyou smiled at him with the warmest smile that could possible come from such a bad-mouthed, considerably volatile and violent young teen. He seemed rather interested in Botan... Well, who wouldn't be? He was a boar, after all, and since when did one ever see a pet boar? It was considerably rare, that was for sure.
"I'm Kyou. Fujibayashi Kyou, sister of Fujibayashi Ryou, if you've met her." As if he was trying to introduce himself, Botan let out a small noise, somewhat of a mixture between a piglike snort and a whine... It came out as somewhat of a 'byuu~snrk' sound, but it was cute nonetheless, and Kyou could only begin to chuckle at the boar's attempt. "And that's Botan, my pet boar. He's pretty friendly, so I wouldn't be too worried," Kyou replied at Botan stretched to attempt to sniff Nagisa's face. Yes, he was an animal... So odd things were somewhat expected. The boar then sneezed, for whatever reason, causing Kyou to laugh.
"So, Dan," Kyou started, looking up - literally and metaphorically speaking - at the tall and obviously foreign boy. "Where did you come from?" She asked, glancing at him up and down. "You're clearly not a hundred percent Japanese, 'cause there's no way someone could be that monstrous and get away with it."
Second chances, they don't ever matter; people never change. Once a whore, you're nothing more, I'm sorry; that'll never change. And about forgiveness we're both supposed to have exchanged I'm sorry honey, but I'm passing up, now look this way! Nagisa Furukawa ___________________________________________________________________________ Nagisa really didn't feel comfortable about Kyou's comments about Sunohara and Okazaki-san. She knew about their reputation all right, and Kyou apparently believed in it. But she had spent plenty of time with them, and they both seemed to be quite friendly. Sunohara had even tried to give her a small gift in honor of the Drama Club meeting. It didn't end that great, and she denied it, but it was the thought that counted. Also, the snorting and laughing about it seemed kind of mean. But Nagisa didn't think Kyou was mean; just didn't really know them that well. One of these days she would have to invite Kyou to spend some time with them and maybe she would see they weren't that bad at heart.
"Well, I'll admit Sunohara-san is a bit hyper at times, and Okazaki-san is brutally honest, but both of them are helping me with the Drama Club. They seem to be really nice as well."
When the boy said he would try the bread, Nagisa was really surprised. He really wanted to try out her mother's bread?! Well, Nagisa had to respect the boy for being willing to try it. Hopefully he would be nice about it and not criticize it too bad. She had a feeling that if, let's say, Okazaki-san ate some, he'd have some choice words to say about it. As for payment, well, since people usually didn't try to eat her bread, Nagisa was going to let him have some for free.
"Uh,oh, there's no need to pay. Feel free to try a free sample of it first! I'll be right back." Nagisa rushed through before he got his money out.
Nagisa headed inside and grabbed one of the breads real quick. It looked normal, except her mother used blue food coloring to make it look "oceany", and you could almost smell the salt air on it. Nagisa came out in time to catch the end of the conversation about Botan and introductions. Nagisa handed the bread over to him with a nervous smile.
"Here you go...and please be gentle with any criticisms. Anyway, my name is Furukawa Nagisa." she said, giving a small, polite bow to Dan as Kyou began asking about where he was from due to his height.
She was a little bit straightforward with it, but Nagisa had to agree with it a little bit. His height was a little intimidating, though his mannerisms made him seem kinder. Sort of like a gentle giant, so to speak. However, Nagisa's neck was starting to hurt a little from it.
"Oh, would you like a seat?" she asked, pointing at the chair she had brought. She was being nice, but also, if he sat down, she didn't have to strain her neck as much to talk to him. It was a little selfish though, so subconsciously she was hoping he would say no... ___________________________________________________________________________

Dan looked at the boar. "Botan, huh? He's a pretty cute guy isn't he? Uh, he is a guy, right?" Dan smiled sheepishly. It was always slightly embarrassing when somebody kept calling a pet by the wrong gender. "It's nice to meet you, Kyou-san. I don't believe I've met your sister yet, but...you two are twins I believe?" Dan hadn't met Ryou yet, but plenty of people mentioned the Fujibayashi twins. This must be one of them then.
As Dan began to count out his cash, Nagisa ducked into the shop, telling him that he didn't have to pay for it. For some reason that made Dan feel slightly nervous. If they were handing out free bread, then either they had too much, or nobody wanted it. Soon enough she came back out with a piece of bread that was blue. "Thank you, but...are you sure I don't have to pay for this?"
Nagisa formally introduced herself and Dan nodded politely. "Nice to meet you, Nagisa-san." He was about to take a bite of the bread (better to get it over with quickly) when he remembered that Kyou had asked him a question.
"Huh? Oh, right. I was born right outside the U.S. base at Okinawa. My dad's actually in the Air Force, so I'm actually only half-Japanese." Dan shrugged. "Everybody on my dad's side of the family except Dad himself is really tall. I guess the height gene skipped him, or something." He smiled slightly. "And believe me I get the monstrous height thing, everywhere..."
As Nagisa asked if he would like a seat he shook his head. "No thanks, you look pretty comfortable, I can just lean against the wall here...there isn't fresh paint or anything on there is it?" Dan crouched down and held the bread and examined it.
Here it was, the moment of truth. Dan inhaled, and for a moment thought he was at the beach in Okinawa. That's...wow... He straightened his back and boldly took a fairly big bite out of the bread, chewing carefully. Halfway through the mouthful he froze, with an inscrutable expression on his face. This...this is...this bread, it's... He became aware of the girls awaiting his reaction, almost anxiously and finished chewing his mouthful.
"This stuff...it's delicious!"

[[my bad about the Botan thing, I keep forgetting Botan is female... xD]]
"I have no problems with Tomoya," Kyou stated, "But Sunohara just gets on my nerves. I can't deny that they aren't nice, but Sunohara is pretty annoying, I find, and he does and says some pretty dumb things, too," she added, not really worried about the impression she might be making. She was who she was, after all, but she tried her best to cover up how she'd actually just defended Tomoya. She didn't have a problem with him... She'd probably be scared if she did. Sure, at times he could say some dumb things, which would clearly evoke her anger, but they were friends... Right?
As Daniel started talking about Botan and called her pretty little pet a he, Kyou could visibly be seen fuming. "It's a she," she said, trying to keep her anger under control. Ah, hell, I'll just take it out on Sunohara later, she thought, mentally shrugging to herself. Kyou did, however, watch as the boy took a bite of the bread... and literally exclaimed that it was really good. Kyou's look faltered, rather surprised at this... new development.
"N-N-N-Nagisa-chan...." Kyou stuttered, the look on her face clearly displaying her surprise. She glanced around quickly to make sure there were no bystanders, then "casually" leaned forward to whisper in the girl's ear. This surely couldn't be true! There was no way - assuming what Nagisa had said earlier was correct, about Sanae Furukawa's bread - that this boy could be either... Sane, or telling the truth. Kyou couldn't even decide which of the two it could be.
"Didn't you say earlier that your mother's bread was, uhm..." Kyou tried to come up with the most subtle of ways to describe what she was saying. Were she talking to someone like Tomoya, she probably would have been a bit more blunt about it; probably said that it was horrid, dangerous, something along those lines. She didn't really want to seem insulting, though... How had Nagisa described it earlier? Kyou thought back... She'd said that her mother didn't make the best bread sometimes. Yes! That was the way to say it!
"Not the best sometimes?" she added, her voice quieter. "I can't tell if he's lying, serious, possibly insane, or there was just a lucky moment with the bread today," she continued, trying to seem subtle. Realizing she was actually being less than subtle, Kyou snapped to attention, laughing and chuckling lightly. "Ahahahah, is it now?" Kyou stated, her tone obviously rushed and nervous. Aw, hell, what do I do?! Kyou thought, mentally having a fit and a breakdown. She twitched slightly, unsure of how to continue the conversation... Hopefully, just hopefully, Nagisa would come up with some sort of direction for conversation, because Kyou was clearly out of ideas.

Nagisa Furukawa ___________________________________________________________________________ It seemed pretty obvious to Nagisa that there was no way she could convince Kyou that Sunohara-san wasn’t that bad of a kid. Although, she did have to agree that Sunohara-san did say some weird things at times, but Tomoya usually responded with something sarcastic. It was a weird friendship, to say the least. Still, from the way they looked, Nagisa was confident that when push came to shove the two of them always had the others back. Nagisa was a little jealous of it actually, and she hoped someday that she would have a friend like that. The closest she had to such a person was Okazaki-san, and she still didn’t understand why he was helping her. That was why she thought him a good person; helping others without really having a reason or asking for something in return.
Dan was playing with Botan, and asked about the gender. Kyou responded by informing them Botan was a female. That minor issue aside, Nagisa handed over some of Sanae’s bread just as promised. He wasn’t too sure if she was serious about giving it to him for free.
”Yes, please accept it as welcome to the town gift,” she smiled, just creating a reason that basically didn’t mean “the bread is a leftover so no one would want it. Nagisa was in great fear her mother would suddenly show up and cry about the insult. She was always so sensitive about her bread.
Before he could eat, however, Dan started to give them a short history of his life. So he was half-American with a family that had a history of tallness. That explained his height, and the name. Well, it was always nice to have new people in town and the city. They had been getting quite a bit of foreigners lately, which was odd. Nagisa didn’t mind at all though. He seemed like a nice guy, and even let her keep her spot in the chair. When he asked about wet paint, she just shook her head. Then came the moment of truth; he ate into the bread, and Nagisa had a feeling of anticipation in her stomach.
Then came the bombshell; he liked the bread. Nagisa was stunned, unable to really say anything. Too bad her mother wasn’t here; she would have fainted from the excitement of hearing someone liked her bread. As for her dad, well, he probably would have fainted from shock. As for herself, she really just didn’t know what to respond to that statement. Kyou seemed to share her reaction as she stuttered, and then ‘casually’ talked to her about it. Nagisa doubted he was lying or insane; he was too nice for that. He was actually serious about it. Nagisa leaned over to talk back.
”I-I think he’s serious about it.”
Seeing as they couldn’t just keep sitting there whispering, the two of them sat back up. Kyou laughed a little, asking if it was true. It got quiet again, and Nagisa realized that she had to be the one to keep things going. Nagisa’s mind rushed through trying to find something to talk about. Uhm, oh, there was something she could ask about.
”So Dan-san, are you attending the same school as us? The one on top of the hill?” Nagisa asked. She was wanting to know what school he went to to be friendly of course, but she had a slight selfish motive. If he went to the same school as they did, maybe he would have interest in the Drama Club? ___________________________________________________________________________

Daniel savored his bread for as long as he could. After all, the girls were still talking and it would be absolutely rude of him to try to speak with his mouthful. As he was beginning to smile, he could see Kyou start fuming as she explained to him that Botan was not a he. Reflexively Dan started to apologize and coughed slightly on the bread. It was, in Dan's opinion, very good, even if it was a bit dry. Like trying to whistle after eating saltine crackers.
"I'm sorry, I didn't know," Dan bowed slightly towards the boar. "Sorry, Botan." When Dan raised his head, Kyou and Nagisa were whispering something, and looking what he could only describe as "anxiously" towards him and the bread.
"I-I'm sorry, is something wrong?" Dan looked at his clothes. Did I get some of it on myself? It's been so long since I've been in Japan, did I forget something important? This is why I hate having to move! Dan glanced over himself. Maybe I didn't.
Then Nagisa asked him a question that derailed that train of thought completely. "That school? Y-yeah, I do, actually. Just transferred not all that long ago. I'm up in the dorms, since it'd be a major hassle if I had to commute from where my dad lives." He looked down at the two girls. "I'm guessing that you two go there as well, then?"
