It was a wonder if this room was ever empty. She had only been around three years, so there was quite a bit of books stored away in these walls by the time Yukine started to attend school. Quite a few of them had seemed to have a run-in with the famous Inchinose-san, thus they had odd little parts cut from their pages. But the majority of the books were still in good shape, they just were replaced with a new copy or something along those lines. Old scientific theories that had been proven false somehow ended up in these walls. There were also odd little things like spell books and unpopular cookbooks. They were all things pretty much abandoned by normal society and kept in the darkness to age alone.
It was a bit odd how she couldn’t bear the thought of books being unloved and abandoned. Then again, oddness never seemed to register with her. These books weren’t as pristine looking as their counterparts in the library, so others just ignored them. But just because their pages were slightly bent and their covers were a bit worn didn’t mean they weren’t good books. But the same could be said about people. Just because some people had very rough looking outward appearances didn’t meant they weren’t good and honest. It had taken Yukine a bit to see such a thing for herself. But after making friends with those gang members, she started to see several things differently. Instead of eating lunch with friends, she spent her free time in the reference room, straightening up and reading things. There were just so many things left in the room, abandoned. Slowly, the space had become her home away from home. Oddly enough, she had become known as the unofficial keeper of the reference room. Teachers didn’t even seem to mind her spending so much time in the room.
But her other friends also learned of it. When they were hurt or bruised they sometimes sought her out. They younger ones didn’t go to school here, but another place in town. But they still came to her school and into the reference room when they needed her help. A few came with cuts and bruises while others came a bit beat up and mangled. It was easy enough to patch them up with the first aid kit in the reference room. Others came with broken spirits. Luckily she knew a few spells to help pick them back up. The most important thing was that they were happy and healthy before leaving. Whether they sat down with her for a moment and chatted over tea or flew back out the window like nothing had ever happened, wasn’t that important. Soon enough, she would see her friends again. All she could hope for was one day they would stop such useless fighting.
Today, there weren’t any visitors waiting for her during lunch.
Yukine stepped into the empty room and sighed happy. She walked over to her usual table and sat down her bag as she went to go start up a pot of hot water. Once she returned to her things, she finally she forgot to pack her lunch. The girl frowned for a bit as her blue eyes looked around the room. How could she forget something like her lunch? It was probably sitting out on the counter at the house. Hopefully her mother would put the food away so nothing spoiled. At least she could take the items tomorrow. “Hmm. I don’t want to pretend I’m dieting,” she moaned to herself as she went back to pour her some tea. There was a rice maker and a spare bag of rice in here she used just in case she had visitors that were hungry. Eating rice by itself was a bit unhealthy, but it couldn’t be helped. All the other things she put in pilaf were at home with her lunch. The girl walked over towards a shelf of books as the rice started to cook.
She picked up a small cute book and returned to her seat. It was a charm book meant for girls to cast spells over guys so they could fall in love with one another. It was something completely useless for her, but she liked to remember spells like these just in case someone ever came to her a problem with love. After all, her spells seemed to always be one hundred percent accurate!

I visited a room without any forms of security, all I found was a girl reading a book.Alex looked up at the sign above the door that read: ‘reference room’. Reference room… he never heard or seen such place, it was a lunch time so he was able to freely roam around the school for a moment. With lunch bag in his right hand Alex looked through the window, and all he found was old boxes and a couple of old books that seemed to be pretty old. He thought for a moment, Alex was curious to see what was inside the room; however, since he thought they were all classified he knew well enough to leave them alone. Also, he needed somewhere to lay low during lunch Alex heard that he was a talk among his classroom ever since then he felt like he was being followed, because of this he needed a place to lay low for a few days until the rumor wore off.
Then again, if this place was classified then why weren’t there any security guards? Where were the security cameras, the inferred lasers, or at least a tap wire? Alex rubbed his chin; his curiosity was getting to him so he decided to head on in even though he obviously was going to regret it in his thoughts. He opened the door slowly and checked his corners first incase for any surprise attacks, for a top secret room such as ‘reference room’ there was a poor security. No, there wasn’t any security at all! Was this a trap for any curious students? Alex shook his head and moved onto the isles as he scanned through the old books, hell some were even untouched.
“Strange, for a forbidden room it contains old and new reference books. What in the world is this room?” Alex picked up one of the Japanese books; the bindings were worn out, pages were tatted at the edges, and the cover’s color was extremely worn out and dusty that Alex coughed when he dusted it off to read it. On the other hand, his Japanese wasn’t that great so he had some trouble reading many words; however, he did manage to keep up with a normal conversation with students so it was good enough for him.
He opened up the book, but this place was too dark for him to read it. Alex looked around seeing a light at the end of dark isle, as he walked towards the light he saw a girl. So, was she the owner of this room? Apparently it seemed like despite the fact that she was a student, but Alex then noticed something about the girl that stood out of all others. For once he saw a normal colored hair and eyes. It was like one of the biggest discoveries of mankind for him; of all the students he saw all of them had strange hair color and eyes! Alex’s face remained calm and serious; he gave her a silent nod in acknowledgment and sat down on one of the chairs, sat down his lunch bag on the table, and began to read.
Oh wait; she probably might have an answer why this place lacked security. Alex closed the book and looked up, “I'm sorry to interfere with your free time, but if I may I would like to ask something.” He did hope she didn’t mind answering his question, but she didn’t seem like one of those delinquents who picked fights with him like ones that he met yesterday. Alex reached into his lunch bag and took out a salami sandwich, a bag of potato chips, and a carton of orange juice. He didn’t consider it a ‘lunch’ rather a ration, wait, perhaps sharing his lunch may stimulate her to answering his question. Alex smelled rice, from what he had heard from his mother rice had a lot of carbohydrates so it wasn’t too good to eat it itself, perhaps he should give her his salami sandwich?
“Well first, it seems like you don’t have any other rations than that rice you’re cooking.” Alex handed her his sandwich which was folded in a foil, “Here, take it and what I'm trying to ask is why in the world this room lacks security. There are no cameras, tap wires, or even inferred lasers, for that I'd like to ask why.”

Yukine heard the door open as the timer went off on her rice. She moved towards the rice maker to turn it off when she heard a sneeze. She knew she had a guest the moment the door opened, but it didn’t seem like the guest was going to greet her. Maybe it was a teacher looking for something? It could just be a student who was looking for a discarded book rather than someone who was seeking her attention. The blonde girl made herself a bowl of rice and took it back down to the table and started to read the book once again. These charms were a bit odd. They were no worse a few other spell she had read before, but she still didn’t understand them. There was a way to make a boy think about a girl every time he sneezed. There was a way to make a boy write a girl’s name on his stuff. There was even a spell to make a boy pass out every time he saw another girl besides the spellcaster. Something like that seemed to be more troublesome than helpful, in Yukine’s opinion. Who came up with such spells?
The visitor slowly crept towards hers, giving her a nod before sitting down. She looked at him for a moment then gave him a pleasant smile. If he just needed a quiet place to enjoy his lunch, then he was more than welcome to share her space here. The reference room was opened to all, even if she took it upon herself to be its unofficial caretaker. For a moment, he said nothing and just fidgeted with his bag. But eventually the silence was broken with a question. The polite girl closed the book and actually looked over the boy. His accent and manner of speech were rough, meaning he was foreign. And his facial features were way more hardened than the usual teen students here. She looked at him intensely for a moment. There seemed like there was something unusual here, as if she should know him.
”Well first, it seems like you don’t have any other rations than that rice you’re cooking. Here. Take it.”
She looked at the wrapped sandwich he handed to her with a smile and giggled. It was nice for him to offer up food since she just had rice, but he would have nothing at all if he did. The girl, however, didn’t want to seem rude by rejecting his offer. Instead, she opted for another plan. Yukine excused herself from the table for a moment as she went back towards the window. The boy continued with his questioning as she returned with two plates. She had cut his sandwich into four pieces and brought him a plate of rice as well. She set the sandwiches between them before taking a seat. ”Lack security?” The blonde girl thought the odd question over for a moment then shook her head. ”I’m sorry. But there’s nothing in here with any value to the school, so there’s really no reason to secure anything. I took it upon myself to take care of this room, but the school uses this place more like a storage unit than anything.” She looked at him a bit confused for a moment then smiled cheerily. At his previous school, a Reference Room must have had another meaning. For a moment, she stared at him, trying to figure out what was so unusual about him.
”I’m Yukine, by the way. Yukine Miyzawa. It’s very nice to meet you…”
He hadn’t bothered to introduce himself so she couldn’t finish her sentence. Still she smiled at him until the boy properly introduced himself. The blonde girl nodded then remembered about the food. ”And thank you for the sandwich. It’s a very generous offer. But instead, how about we share it? It would be bad if we both went hungry…” He was a very kindhearted boy, despite his rough appearance. Then again, she was use to that sort of thing. Yukine looked over his face one more time before she realized what was unusual. There was a cross like scar on his face. Yesterday there was a fight and apparently there was a boy with a cross like scar in it. Her friends were looking for a man with an odd scar because he was starting a new gang. He might have been the one they encountered on the school grounds and beat them up. Of course, after she tended to their wounds, she made them promise not to get in fights at her school anymore. It was horrible to think that they were beating up defenseless students. Yesterday, however…
”I don’t mean to sound a bit weird but…you’re not in a gang are you? You’re not a boss or something, right?”

I just got here though... do I look like a gang leader to you?Nothing of value? Alex was taken back this school didn’t value anything at all, so all their secret files and reports were free for students to look at? This was quite a strange school that he was in; he was starting to think this place wasn’t a military academy like his mother described. She described that he’ll make valuable friends and work hard, but… this wasn’t anything like he had imagined. Alex gave a facepalm to himself, “If it is a storage unit then shouldn’t it- forget it.” He cut himself off; probably this wasn’t a military academy after all. Alex felt a bit insecure being at a place with no drill sergeant and daily training.
The girl introduced herself as: ‘Yukine Miyzawa’, Alex tried to get her name right in his head constantly by pronouncing it silently. It was an odd pronunciation, but he managed to get it right after a couple of times, “I am Alex, Alex S. Gunthur, rank Corporal, and birth date December 1st.” He replied, “It’s nice to meet you as well, but you don’t seem to have a rank. Don’t take it the wrong way, but from my guess I thought this school had some form of military ranks? Such as using words as: san, kun, or chan at the end of the name… aren’t those ranks?”
Alex wasn’t aware that he was still mistaken about military ranks around this school. He wanted to know more, was he tricked by his mother? No, he knew his parents wouldn’t lie to him about something like this… but this was just too silly. Wasn’t this a military school? Students were wearing uniforms, had ranks, and even had their own personalized dorms. What was going on here? Alex was filled with all kinds of questions in his head that needed to be answered to clear things out; however, he was glad that he asked one of them.
Ranks… it was important to him. For him it kept things organized and made the students actually respected each other than works things out with their fists. Everything worked out by talking, and usually by warnings. After what he had seen yesterday perhaps this school didn’t have ranks, students had little to no respect for each other except their friends for Alex this was completely a new experience. His head felt like it was spinning, getting used to this place wasn’t as easy as he might’ve thought.
The soldier rubbed his temples in an attempt to cool down and think things through, okay; as far as he knew there was no security or ranks. What else this school didn’t have? His trains of thoughts were suddenly lost after the girl suggested them sharing the sandwich instead of her eating it, “Perhaps that’s a good idea.” Alex replied. This kind of question was best asked to his mother since she stayed in Japan longer than he did, so yes, he would have to ask her a few questions.
She then asked if he was gang boss. Alex tilted his head slightly, “I’m not a gang boss, besides, it’s only been a month ever since I got here.” He said, was she a gang leader? No, that couldn’t be a possibility she was a good natured person, if she was a gang leader she might’ve ordered in a couple of guys in to mug him. Alex sighed, “What makes you think that?” Why exactly did she think he was a gang boss? Alex wasn’t cut out to be one, if he did lead a gang, hell, his members would be going through a whole lot of pain in the ass trainings.
Alex wasn’t foolish enough to join one, he learned about them ever since he hit middle school. The gangs were just mere low scumbags of the society that knew nothing what life had to offer for them, even though he himself didn’t know what life would offer him Alex knew well that gang members always ended up behind bars with their lives ruined. Not to mention permanent record of felony offense usually involving selling drugs to drug lords. Alex just found them sick when he heard about their harmful activities in the society; in his opinion what they needed was a good drill sergeant.
He waited for her response, if she was under a fear of a gang leader Alex knew he should protect her, or perhaps even call the local police to keep an eye out for that man. He took a bite of a plate of rice with the spoon; he chewed and swallowed it the rice was nicely cooked than what his mother could make him. Alex actually liked it, once he was finished with his third bite he looked directly at her, “If you are under the fear of that gang leader I can protect you if you wish.”

”…then shouldn’t it- forget it.”
Yukine looked at him curiously for a moment. She had no idea where he was getting at, but he seemed to be completely discouraged suddenly. How very sad. Life in a new country must have been very hard on him considering how bad he took the difference in meaning with Reference Room. She was almost curious to learn what a Reference Room contained in his country. Surely it must have been something amazing if they had security cameras and things like that within it. But why would they keep something that important in a school? Yukine was almost sure there was no camera anywhere in this school…
”Don’t take it the wrong way, but from my guess I thought this school had some form of military ranks? Such as using words as: san, kun, or chan at the end of the name… aren’t those ranks?”
Another odd question. She started at him for a moment, wondering if he was really serious. Ranking? He thought honorifics were some type of ranking system? How did he come up with such an assumption? A smile crept on her face until it broke into a giggle. The girl chuckled softly for a moment then shook her head. Did the different honorifics really seem like a ranking system? It was in a sense, and yet he was completely off. ”Those are honorifics. Japanese has…suffixes for names instead of prefixes. Your native tongue is English right?” Yukine frowned for a moment. English wasn’t her best subject at all, but they had similar honorifics. The girl started to right the English prefixes in her hand before nodding and continuing on. ”Let’s see. They’re something like Mister, Sir, Missus, and Madam… Kun is used to address people younger or less experienced. Chan is more of endearing term, somewhat reserved for girls. It’s a bit rude and condescending to ever call a senior chan. Instead, you call those who are older or more experienced san.” She looked at the boy for a moment. He surely wasn’t a first year, and she was pretty sure he wasn’t in the same grade as her. Alex Gunther was most likely a senior this year. Yukine nodded as she looked at him with a smile. ”You would be Gunther san to me since you’re my senior.” It was best not to go into –dono, –sama, and –senpai. She didn’t want to confuse the boy.
After the little lesson in Japanese culture, the girl smiled as she took one of the pieces of sandwich. It was actually very good, but also very salty. The girl smiled politely, not hinting at all that it was a bit of a new taste for her. She didn’t want to see rude after he went through so much trouble to share his lunch with her. It took about three bites to be half way done with the piece before she set it down. The boy…wasn’t a gang boss. It was relieving to know, and at the same time, a bit worrisome. The others had to have attacked this boy because he was foreign with a scar. This was such a disaster. ”There’s a bit of a rumor going around about someone starting up a new gang in this city…and he has an odd scar. The one on your jawline…” Yukine stopped as she looked away for a moment, frowning. She must have sounded so rude. There was no telling if that scar was something he preferred not talking about or something of that nature. She hadn’t considered anything before she started talking. The blonde girl really didn’t want to come across rude. Alex was a very well-mannered boy, after all. ”I’m sorry,” she finally said, keeping her blue eyes focused on the floor. She couldn’t look him in the eyes.
”If you are under the fear of that gang leader, I can protect you if you wish.”
Yukine blinked as her eyes went back on him. She blinked again before staring at him. How could he say something like that so…casually? If he ever got in a fight with a gang member, it would start an endless cycle. The boys from yesterday were still sore about what happen, but she was able to placate their rage by reminding them that he wasn’t a gang leader. Alex was just a student defending himself, so there was no reason to fight him. It was just going to start an endless struggle with someone unrelated. While they weren’t satisfied with such a reply, she reminded them that fighting one of her classmates would surely be trouble for her. That fact had struck a chord with the men and they agreed to back down.
”No, no, no. Please don’t say such things. I prefer people never get in fights, especially on my account.”
The girl sat there with her chopsticks in her hand, staring at her rice. She was very much against fighting. The struggle between the two gangs in this town was something she had to endure, but she was very against it. Men apparently needed to prove themselves with their fists. They weren’t dangerous like the Yakuza or something of that degree; the gangs in this city were just men and women that had nowhere to turn expect towards others with like values. They were like family. But the two families had split up the town in such a way that things were even. It made less social unrest, but it was still bad. Members ended up in fights because they crossed over in different territories and things like that. But what was going to happen when this third gang started claiming things. She couldn’t bear the thought of something happening to her beloved hometown. Her beloved older brother had worked so hard in protecting this city…
”Besides, I’m not scared of any leader. I’m a bit familiar with the gangs of this city, so I’m sure nothing bad would happen to me… Speaking of which, I would like to apologize for what happened yesterday, on their behalf.” Yukine set down her chopsticks and stood up. The girl put both hands next to one another before she bowed from her waist. ”I am truly sorry for what happened. Please forgive their ignorant actions.”

I was even surprised how she had connections with the delinquents in the city.Alex tilted his head when she started to giggle, was there something on his face? He placed his hand over his face attempting to wipe whatever was stuck on it, but it seemed he was mistaken. What she was giggling about was about his mistake, but Alex was never afraid to be proven wrong if he was wrong then he just had to take it, and learn from the mistake. She answered the question that was brought up, calling it ‘honorifics’. He never heard of it before in his life until she started explaining it to him, “That’s right my native tongue is English.”
Japanese way of calling other people’s names were truly interesting, but Alex was having a little hard comprehending with her since he didn’t know much terms. Plus, she was speaking faster than she could understand, and he only managed to understand a few phrases. Alex waited for her to finish, after she was done talking he took his time trying to understand what she had said, maybe he should carry around a dictionary with him after all? Then he finally understood it, but it was rather complex for he was comfortable calling people by their first names, not last names. Having a suffix: ‘san’ after his last name was a bit uncomfortable, because it made him feel older than he should be probably it’d be uncomfortable for anyone who had trouble adjusting to Japanese culture like he did.
“Being called ‘Gunther-san’ is a little uncomfortable for me. If possible, I’d like to be called ‘Alex’ or ‘Gunther’ without the suffix at the end.” Alex said, “If it’s uncomfortable for you I’ll be more than happy to accept the suffix that I’ve been given.”
Then her face looked a little insecure, and worrisome. She explained there was a rumor a new gang leader rising up the city, and had the same looking scar on his jaw line. Interesting, so was that the reason why the delinquents yesterday attacked him? It was most likely so, but how did she have all the connections to this? Whoever she was Alex theorized that she had a vast information network around the city, but unreasonable to think like this, then again, it was just a theory. All of a sudden she stood up bowing her head down to him in apology, Alex stood up a little surprised by what he saw. “There is nothing to be sorry about.” He said, “You didn’t do anything wrong, so just sit back down.”
Did she do something wrong? Alex didn’t think she did anything wrong, he asked himself what she had done wrong; however, the answer came out to be nothing. He sat back down rubbing his chin with his hand, it was strange of her to bow her head, and say sorry. According to his mother Japanese people bowed their heads for various things, saying ‘hello’ and ‘good-bye’ was one of them, the list just went on about their ‘head bowing’ culture. This made his head spin a little, so Alex just decided to stop thinking about it.
After him mentioning he will protect her from gang leaders if she wishes, Miyzawa replied that she didn’t want people to fight for her account. Truly she was a good natured girl, but how much punishment can she take before being broken? Plus, if she hated fighting then why didn’t she just stay out of it, and not look? Alex sighed, “Miyzawa-chan, you’re a good girl, but there are times when you have to let people help you.” He said, and ate some of the rice on his plate. He wondered why she didn’t like other people helping her, but she could probably be a person who liked solving things on their own. If she was that person Alex wouldn’t get in the way, but he was just disheartened about the fact that she had to deal with all of this alone.
Gang leaders, gang members, and school work…. Alex could feel the tension of the stress living under the fear of gangs. A girl should be focusing on her school work, and the comrades around her instead of living under the fear. His decision was made final, Alex was going to help her anyway possible, but secretly. He ate a little bit of rice, chewed, and swallowed, “Then, I won’t intervene in your business, whatever it may be I hope it works out.” Alex said, it was a half lie and half true the young soldier will intervene to help her on occasions depending on the situation.
Then when she said she didn’t fear any gang leaders, it had to be a lie right? She said she was familiar with other gangs in the city; Alex raised his eyebrow slightly then went down his mindset changed completely. So she was a gang leader? Then again she apologized; she answered that question on his mind earlier why she was feeling so sorry. So these delinquents were connected with her after all, she might’ve looked like a nice mannered girl on the outside Alex feared that he was up against a serious threat! Oh boy, what did he get himself into?
“Again, no need to apologize. It’s fine.” Alex replied. He was in the face of his enemy of his life, and he was saying there was no need to apologize?! He could’ve stood up from the chair, put her into a bicep choke, and drag her to the locker making sure she learnt her lesson… then again she was a girl. Alex decided to interrogate her gently, “Well, if you are connected with the friends of yours I've encountered does that make you a gang leader?” [/blockquote]

Calling someone by their first name was quite disrespectful. Well, it was fine if you were friends with the other. Yukine blinked a few times. She couldn’t call him Alex considering they were acquaintances, not close friends. She wasn’t too sure if it was right to call him Gunther without an honorific, but she could try to fulfill his request. The transition from one of those English speaking countries to Japan must have been rough on him; by calling him Gunther, it might have been just one little thing to make him feel more welcomed. If that really was going to help him, Yukine could remember to drop the honorific. But she could only do it if they were alone. The last thing she wanted to do was start some rumor about herself or him. It would scandalous if people started to assume she was so disrespectful and presumptuous that she addressed her elders in any manner she saw fit. And poor Alex didn’t need people taking about how he was being picked on by some second year.
”Miyzawa-chan, you’re a good girl, but there are times when you have to let people help you.”
”Huh?” she moaned with a speck of rice on her cheek. Yukine set down her eating utensil and wiped her face before staring at the young man opposite of her. Somehow, she didn’t expect that type of reaction from her protesting. Yukine simply didn’t want anyone getting hurt. It was a bit of a childish notion, but it was something she felt strongly about. Alex seemed like a very good natured male. Though he was a bit odd, his first reaction to her lack of lunch was to graciously give up his. And the people like Sanado san and the other delinquents will all kindhearted people behind those rough exteriors. Sadly, the boys in the gang just saw violence as a means to solve problems over fighting. But neither gang was completely disrespectful of this peace town’s community. They kept major brawls away from town, and neither gang was extorting money from local business. The two gangs in this region were just opposing families. With that said, Yukine still couldn’t figure out the secret meaning to his words. Did he simply cross the meaning of words since Japanese wasn’t his native tongue…or was he offering her help to stop the violence? ”Umm, I’m afraid I don’t quite understand you…Gunther.” Considering the fact she never explained she was on a mission to stop the violence between the rival gangs, she was pretty sure his Japanese was just a little off. Besides, getting him involved would only lead to him getting in some type of danger.
”I won’t intervene in your business, whatever it may be I hope it works out.”
”Oh. I see,” she said with a nod. ”Thank you very much… For the compliment and for not trying to involve yourself. I’m sure you have tons of things to worry about being new and such.”
She couldn’t imagine how awkward it must have felt for him. He was in a foreign land with foreign customs and a complex language he didn’t fully grasp. All in all, she felt bad for him. And the incident yesterday didn’t make his transition any smoother. She felt ashamed even though Yukine had nothing to do with the attack. The young girl felt like she missed something. If only she had been outside to intervene; if only she had seen the boys when they entered the school grounds.
”Again, no need to apologize. It’s fine.”
”You’re much too kind, Gunther. I hope nothing unfortunate ever happens to change that aspect of you.”
”Well, if you are connected with the friends of yours I've encountered does that make you a gang leader?”
”Eh?!” she exclaimed completely baffled by his assumption. There was a difference between knowing delinquents and leading them! Yukine had no leadership skills. She wasn’t very assertive or even bossy, others influenced and swayed her opinion over average things, and most importantly, she had no fighting skills. ”I’m no gang member or leader. Sorry if you’re a bit disappointed…” Yukine was no yakuza. She hated violence. Besides, she wasn’t something to get her body tattooed. Her mother would completely die if she ever caught little Yukine with some type of inking on her body. Actually, nothing about Yukine screamed delinquent or troublemaker. Were gang leaders really different in Japan opposed to Britain or America or Canada or wherever he might be from? Maybe in his country, innocent girls were masterminds and led tons of big gangs. How scary! She shook her head again then went back to the sandwich. ”I’ve just…” she paused for a moment. Going into deep explanations might lead to trouble. The girl could get suspended for gang involvements if rumors started.
”I’m just familiar with them so there’s no need to ever worry about my safety.”
That was the best answer she could think of. Talking about how she spent time in their stronghold, cooking food and watching them bond wasn’t the smartest of ideas. In fact, it was just best to change the subject. She quickly finished the triangular sandwich then suddenly got an idea. She obviously needed to repay him for sharing his meal with her. The blonde girl gave him a bit of a smile before nodding. ”So Gunther…what kinds of food you do you prefer? I would like to repay you for today by making you something nice tomorrow…” She paused for a moment then shook her head. ”Oh, but if you have previous set lunch arrangements, another lunch meeting can be arranged for another date. I’m always here during lunch after all.” She gave the boy a bright smile trying to reassure him that whatever answer would be quite fine. While she wasn’t the most amazing chef around, Yukine wasn’t completely oblivious around a kitchen. Of course, she did expect him to suggest a foreign dish. It might have been a bit hard considering she wasn’t sure what it was supposed to taste like. The most foreign thing she was familiar with was curry, but Japanese curry was different from India. Even burgers in Japan were different than a burger in America. Still, the girl would try her best at trying to please his palate.
”So, don’t hold back. Anything you could want, I am more than willing to have a shot at.”

Ibuki Fuko ___________________________________________________________________________ This was an emergency of epic proportions! Or at least, that was what Fuko-chan thought as she sucked on the small spot between her thumb and pointer finger. In her mouth she could taste a small but steady flow of blood, and it was because of this she was rushing through the school. It was terrible that such a master carver such as herself had gotten injured like this. The blame for this tragedy, however, was to be put on those bells. They were so loud and noisy, they could wake the dead.
Earlier in the day she had been hanging out in the schools library, enjoying the company of the Strange Quiet Girl. After figuring out she was no ghost or a superhero, Fuko had decided to temporarily move her carving headquarters there. Even without ghostly magic, the girl was able to protect Fuko from the man wanting her wood, so it was a good decision as far as Fuko was concerned. Plus, she was always so quiet, Fuko could concentrate fully on carving her starfish.
There was one thing that the library had against it, and that was the fact it was in an active part of the school. Unlike her classroom, the library actually had people come to it, so when the bells rang to announce lunch, they rang. Fuko was unused to such a distraction, and the racket was enough to cause her to jump out of her seat. In her shock, her hand slipped, and the knife plunged into her poor hand. Almost immediately Fuko saw it, and she tried to ask the Quiet Girl for help. The girl never answered Fuko, so she had to run off and get help. It was because of that she was in this situation.
Even if most of her time was spent in the classroom by herself, Fuko did occasionally make her way out into the school. Mostly it was to pass out the small amount of starfish that she had carved. Even then, though, she was able to keep up on some of the going ons at the school. In this time of emergency, she was interested in the talk about a girl who lived in the reference room, aiding all those in need. She was like the school’s nurse, except without the costume, and she had food. Fuko also recalled something about her being a magical person, with strange spells that almost always worked. If there was anyone who could help Fuko bandage her wounds, it would be her. Maybe she’d even help Fuko by giving her an army of magical starfish carpenters to help carve more starfish! Normally, the thought of such an adorable and obviously cute workforce would have sent her on her merry way to dreamland. The bleeding hand, however, was enough of a distraction for her to press forward towards the reference room.
Soon Fuko found herself standing in front of the door to the reference room, and there she picked up the sounds of people talking. One was the voice of a boy, the other one, while barely audible from here, sounded female. Fuko didn’t know what they were talking about, but she wanted to know. Quietly and slowly she opened the door, and tiptoed into the room. While she had expected to hear about secret plans and plots, all she got instead was a conversation about food. It was such a letdown for Fuko, though the smell of rice in the air perked her up. She did feel a little hungry. In fact, she really couldn’t remember the last time that she had actually eaten anything.
Fuko, of course, proceeded to ask in her usual way, which in this case involved walking right into the middle of the conversation.
”Can Fuko please have some rice?”
She placed her starfish down on the table as she pulled up a chair. Her smaller size compared to the guy was rather obvious, and from her view he was a giant. She stared up at him for a moment, taking in all the details of his being. For her, she was staring deep into his very existence to draw out his pure essence, what made him ‘him.’ From this she would draw her name for him, at least until he gave her his real name. The scars, the military-like features, the strange hair and way of speaking. It all made sense; he wasn’t from around here!
”You’re a Weird Foreign Person” she said, pointing a finger right up at him almost as if she were accusing him of something.
She just sat there for a second in pure silence before remembering the starfish before her. In her mind she was debating about whether or not this almost thuggish man would appreciate something as delicate and adorable as a starfish. The thought that he would not cherish it forever, but instead hate it with a burning passion because he thought of it as some symbol of weakness and femininity frightened Fuko. Starfish didn’t deserve to be treated in such away. So to keep them safe, she wouldn’t give one to this man till he proved worthy of such an honor.
As for the girl, Fuko didn’t get much time to look her over. She had already asked for rice, and assuming the rumors she had heard were true, the girl would have ended up getting some for her. Combining the magic and nursing powers Fuko heard (or at least believed she heard) about this girl, Fuko decided to name her Magical Nurse Girl. It was a fitting name. Fuko put her hand on her chin and nodded thoughtfully at it, which is when she finally remembered her hand was still bleeding. The wet and sticky liquid snapped her out of her thought, and sent her right back to sucking on it.

Shouldn't she be in an elementary school? If she wasn’t involved with any gangs, then how can she be familiar with delinquents? This confused Alex greatly in a way that he was starting to think that gangs weren’t bad at all, but at the same time he was educated that they were nothing but scum of the society. He wasn’t too good at thinking outside the box; after all he was a type of a guy who would take orders from higher-up without thinking which for him it was a basic principle. Well, he wasn’t disappointed, but more like confused maybe? Japanese culture was indeed puzzling.
He knew now that Alex didn’t need to worry about her safety, he just shrugged at her answer. The soldier sighed as he took a bite of his sandwich, “Well, for all I know I’m just glad that you’re safe.“ He took another bite onto his sandwich, and finished it off. He had to be quick, the lunch time was almost over for him his teacher will kill him if he was late again… Japanese teachers were sure strict like his old teachers back in America.
Then a question surprised him. Alex raised his eye brow when she asked what food he preferred, but he didn’t do anything for her other than share his sandwich. He titled his head, the soldier was assuming she knew what Americans ate; however, there was a food that he wanted to try out in the Japan for a while. The classic miso soup, from what he heard from his mother they had a very refreshing and sweet taste compared to Korean one. He rubbed his chin at the thought, “Well, I was meaning to try out a Miso soup for a while, but I really don’t want you to trouble yourself to cook one.” He said, “I mean, I really don’t want you to trouble yourself.”
Another lunch meeting… Alex actually enjoyed talking to her. He simply nodded, “Well then until next time.” The boy finished up his food quickly and stood up knowing his time here was shorter than he had expected. The bell for him was about to ring soon, he threw away the paper plate into the trash bin and bowed, “Thanks for the food.”
As he started to head out towards the door a small girl came in. She seemed like she was in an elementary school, waits, why was an elementary schooler like her doing in a high school? Could Japanese people send their children to the high school? That was just too cruel beyond the standards, kids should learn what their boundaries can understand, but this was just too ridiculous! Alex kneeled down towards her, “What are you doing here?” He asked, “Not to offend you or anything, but… should you be in an elementary school?”
Okay, maybe that was a bit too cruel? What if she was just a short girl? That didn’t make sense, rarely ever the girls in his country looked that short, plus her physique looked like a child. Alex gave himself a facepalm, this country was obviously an odd one. Ever since he set a foot onto this new frontier everything was just weirder and weirder by each second.
Then it hit him, she called him a weird foreign person. Alex had a name; he wasn’t just a ‘weird random person’ popping out of nowhere. Since she was a child he decided to go along with her, “My name is Alex S. Gunthur, I’m not just a weird foreign person out of the blue.” He stated, but he doubted she was listening. The girls around her age seemed to be extremely hyper-active, not to mention their short attention span which was a plus.
“I better get going, bell is about to ring.” Alex quickly rushed out the door to get to his class.

Yukine tried her hardest not to laugh at his request, but a chuckle slipped from her smiling lips. The girl nodded hastily, trying to cover up for her minor laugh. ”Miso would be no trouble at all…” she assured the older male. Miso wasn’t really a meal. There was tofu and seaweed in the broth, and sometimes mushrooms if she was feeling in need of a change; but miso was an appetizer at best. It was more of a wonder for Yukine why he would request such a thing. While she rarely packed something like miso for lunch, the request could be easily done if she packed a thermos. But miso and rice wouldn’t be much of a meal. The girl would just have to think of something someone like him would like. Surely there had to be foods that were similar to whatever country he hailed from. Yukine would have to look around the room for American and British style cook books to come up with an idea for tomorrow’s lunch.
”Well then, until next time.”
”Yes, I look forward to it,” she replied with her usual sincere smile. Alex was truly a kind person despite his looks. The blonde girl hoped he would somehow learn to fit into the school as well as make tons of friends. High school was only a special time if there were tons of close friends to share good times with. Besides, this might have been his first year to their school, but this would be his last year at high school. Seniors were always stressed studying and trying to make sure their futures were in order. It seemed cruel to throw the boy in this type of utter chaos. At least someone who was a second year like her still had time to plan for which university to apply for. This truly might be a stress for year for Alex in so many ways. ”Please take care until then.” The boy threw away his plate and then thanked her for the food. Yukine giggled and shook her head before she heard the door close softly. Yukine’s eyes caught a hold of the small wondering intruder. The girl was in the school’s uniform, so she really wasn’t an intruder since this place did not belong to Yukine. In fact, the new tiny girl was a welcomed guest. Considering her side, the small girl had to be a first year. She couldn’t have known much about Yukine if this was her first year at this school. Maybe she had wondered into the room because she was lost and heard voices? She was clutching something very close to her, so obviously it was important. While the girl was amazingly cute and the fact she was codling some unknown item made the situation even cuter, there was something else Yukine noticed.
This person was bleeding!
The little wooden object in her hands hand been stained slightly red thanks to the dripping blood. The cut on her fingers looked serious, but it wasn’t something Yukine couldn’t handle. The younger girl set down the handcrafted star upon the table as she pleaded for food. The blonde girl smiled friendly at the new guests. ”Sure…I don’t mind sharing. But first…” The hostess of the Reference Room excused herself from the table and walked around towards the window and took out the first aid kit. All she needed was two Band-Aids and the alcohol cleansing pad. There was no need to lunge about the big white box. By the time Yukine returned to fix up the new girl, the other two were amidst in a conversation.
“You’re a Weird Foreign Person.”
”My name is Alex S. Gunthur, I’m not just a weird foreign person out of the blue.”
”Regardless of his nationality, I can contest that Gunther san is a good person. Not weird at all, just foreign,” Yukine assured the energetic girl. She raised her hand as if she were pledging her case in his honor. ”Now then, let me see your hand.” She took hold of Fuko’s injured hand then took the wet alcoholic wipe and cleaned the wound. The cut wasn’t as deep as she first assumed, but there was still a cut on two fingers. She carefully bandaged both fingers then smiled. ”There we go.” The crisis of the bleeding girl was averted and Alex was already rushing out the door. She did already say her goodbyes to the boy, so it wasn’t a complete letdown that he rushed out so fast. For now, she needed to worry about her new little guest. Yukine tossed the wrappers in the trash before going to fill a bowl of rice for the new girl. The gracious hostess set down a white bowl and a pair of wooden chopsticks for Fuko then took her seat once again at the other side of the table.
”So then, are you lost or did you forget the bring your lunch too?”

Ibuki Fuko ___________________________________________________________________________ She should be in elementary school? Is that what the Weird Foreign Guy thought about her? How could someone make such an insulting comment about a person? Fuko was a big girl, possibly the most mature girl in the entire school…when she wanted to be. Sure, she acted childish at times, but it just hid the true maturity she held deep inside. She was perfectly old enough to come to this school, and she was going to show this kid why that was true.
”You are sadly mistaken Weird Foreign Guy. Fuko may look cute and adorable on the outside, on the inside she is a truly mature person for a first year.”
In order to appear more mature, she had her eyes closed as if she was choosing her words with careful thought. The fact she just referred to herself in the third person and called him Weird Foreign Guy were both childish didn’t faze her at all. As far as she was concerned, she had responded in a mature and adult way to the man. When he started talking, she listened as he called himself Alex S. Gunther. Paying attention was a mature thing, right?
The name, however, only reinforced her view he was a strange, foreign person. Never before had she heard of such a name. Alex she knew was a foreign name from books and stories she had read to or heard, but never before in her life had she heard of Gunther. What strange and mysterious land had such odd names for their people. And more importantly, did they have starfish on their foreign shores? Hopefully they did, otherwise Alex must have lived in a very depressing country in his past.
When the girl spoke to defend this Alex person, Fuko just looked at her. If the Magical Nurse thought he was good, even if he looked thuggish, then maybe he was truly a good person. He didn’t seem to be that evil, as he did react kindly towards Fuko.
”Alright than Alex-san, I officially stop calling you Weird Foreign Guy and…huh?”
By this point Fuko had finally opened her eyes, no longer needing to appear mature and a deep thinker. But when she did, Alex was gone! She frantically looked around to find a sign of the man, and just barely glimpsed him running out the door. With a deep sigh of relief, she turned her attention to Magical Nurse Girl. For a second she thought the girl had made Alex disappear, but he was safe. But what was this she was doing to her fingers…
”Ow” Fuko squealed when she wiped her cut with what must have been disinfectant of some sort.
It wasn’t like Fuko had never been cut ever before, but it still stung to have it cleaned like that. The girl then put two bandages on her, and Fuko just looked at her hands. She was no longer bleeding, though she still probably needed to wash her hands clean. A quick look at her starfish, and she saw that it had gotten some blood on it as well. Fuko quickly grabbed a hold of the starfish, and got up from the table. She had to find something to wipe off the blood of the starfish! A bloody starfish wasn’t something you gave to someone as a gift. It had to be clean and perfectly adorable, and a bloody one wasn’t such a thing. Instead, it was like some horrible creature out of a horror movie!
In her search, Fuko forgot about the rice that the girl had made, so she didn’t begin to eat it right away. Instead, she started to rummage through boxes and shelves that filled the room for something to clean the starfish with. But all she could find were books, and they weren’t of any use to her at all at the moment. She did glimpse what looked like a starfish on one cover, and made a note to take the book when she got a chance. But first, the starfish had to be cleaned.
But no matter how hard she searched those shelves, she couldn’t find anything. Defeated, she slouched her way over to the table and got back into her chair. She was holding the starfish close to her, and was just staring down at it. Her mind registered that the girl had said something, but she as she spoke it was obvious where her real concern was.
”I had heard about a Magical Nurse girl in this room, and thought she could help with my cut. But now I got blood all over this starfish, and I couldn’t find anything to clean it with. Now I can’t give it to someone. No one would want a bloody starfish, they only want cute ones.”
It truly did sadden her that this once adorable starfish was now destined to a life of unwantedness. She would love it of course, but it wouldn’t be the same since it was her creation after all. For it to really shine, it had to bring joy to people, to be a special gift that they would treasure forever. Whenever someone looked upon it, their troubles would go away as they dreamed of wonderful lands where people named Gunther danced with starfish on the beaches. But now it would just simply fade away into a purposeless oblivion. ___________________________________________________________________________

Something was apparently wrong. Yukine had healed the girl and offered her food, but that didn’t seem to solve a thing. Instead, she was going about, rummaging for things. All the blonde girl could do was sit and watch; there was no telling what exactly the first year girl was looking for. A book? Spare paper? A waffle iron? Yukine smiled at the last thought in her mind. That was just silly. Her blue eyes watched as the bandaged up girl moved from the boxes to the bookshelves. She was a quite unusual girl, so maybe something like a waffle iron wouldn’t be unusual for her? Still, it would be better to try the home economics building rather than looking in the reference room when it came to cooking materials. Yukine had found a box with such equipment before, but they were all very old and worn things. The frying pan she used at times was something she brought from home rather than the one she found in the box. That thing was rusted.
“I heard about a Magical Nurse Girl in this room, and thought she could help with my cut. But now I got blood all over this starfish, and I couldn’t find anything to clean it with. Now I can’t give it to someone. No one would want a bloody starfish, they only want cute ones.”
Yukine just kept her usual bright smile as she nodded to the girl’s explanation. So she considered Yukine a ‘Magical Nurse Girl?’ Considering the fact she had no magical transformations, she probably wouldn’t do well as a magical girl. Yukine also didn’t have a wand, a talking pet, or magical powers. ”Sorry, I’m not a magical nurse,” she apologized sincerely. The first year girl was really a wonder. Could she really be serious about a magical girl? It was best not to dwell on that thing or she would start to laugh at the younger girl. That would be too mean. Her blue eyes slowly moved back to the wooden star on the table. So she had planned to give the star to someone and it had to be cute? The blonde thought carefully about the problem was her eyes stared at the blood spots. It could easily be wiped off; however it was probably already stained red underneath the droplets. There wasn’t any wood polisher in the reference room, so it would be hard just to bring out the oaky color so the stain didn’t stand out. ”While I can’t help you make the spot disappear, I can help you mask it and make your starfish cute one again.” Yukine pushed her chair back before standing up. She gave the gray haired girl a smile and a wink before disappearing behind a few bookshelves. Near the back of the room, there were several boxes. Yukine thumbed through the labels until she found the one labeled ‘Art Room.’ She quickly retrieved a paint brush, white paper, and orange paint.
The blonde girl put her finding on the table then popped open the tiny paint can. It had been a while since she had smelled that chalky substance. Yukine carefully place the star on the paper then handed the panicked girl the paintbrush. ”Here you go. Starfish are typically orange and red, so why not just paint it? It’ll be even more cute for your special someone, and I’m sure he’ll enjoy it tons,” Yukine reassured the girl. She walked back towards the window and poured the girl a cup of hot tea with plenty of cubes of sugar. Somehow, the older girl was pretty sure the golden eyed girl liked her tea sweet. If she didn’t, Yukine might have died of shock. Once again, she returned and placed the cup of tea beside the rice she served the girl. Once she was finished eating and painting, Yukine needed to clean up and return to class. The senior boy had already warned them both about class and Yukine didn’t want to get in trouble. The last thing she could ever do was be tardy and get a worrisome label like delinquent. That would send her mother into such a tizzy! After her brother entered high school and get a bad reputation, Yukine’s parents had become stricter.

Ibuki Fuko ___________________________________________________________________________ If she wasn’t already pouting, Fuko would have been saddened about the revelation that this girl was, in fact, not magical at all. Deep down she knew it was too good to be true, but at the same time she had hoped that the girl had known some sort of magic. All rumors had a little bit of truth in them, right? Or were the people of this school conspiring against Fuko to make her believe that there was a magical nurse? Nah, that was too far fetched, even for her mind. It had to be a simple mistake on her part, like how she had thought the girl in the library was a superhero ghost.
”Well, I had thought you were one cause I heard you cast spells and stuff. Maybe Fuko just heard wrong then…”
When the girl brought up making the starfish cute once more, Fuko’s mood swiftly turned around. She looked up at the girl, joy filling her eyes as she wondered what it was that would help return the starfish to its former glory. Her eyes followed her as she grabbed art supplies and placed them in front of her. For a moment Fuko just sat there, wondering what this was all about. Just as the girl began to speak, it hit Fuko that she could paint the starfish. What a brilliant thought! While of course the simple wooden starfish was already a pinnacle of cuteness, a painted starfish, well, she couldn’t even imagine what they would be like. If only she had of thought such an idea sooner. Then all those who were somehow able to resist the allure of the starfish would have been powerless, and in fact would be begging her for one.
Ignoring the comment about a special someone, Fuko hastily thanked the girl and grabbed the paint. One could tell she didn’t have much painting experience since, in her rush, she got as much paint on the starfish as she did on the paper. Her tongue stuck out a little bit, showing a complete and total focus on that single carving, toiling to make sure every nook and cranny was painted over in this delightfully bright orange. A small clink sound brought her out, and Fuko looked over to see there was a cup of tea beside the rice she had asked for. Fuko didn’t remember asking for tea at all, but then again this girl had been a very helpful person to Fuko. She seemed to be rather kind, the perfect person to give this starfish too when she was done.
”Thank you for the tea,” she said as she grabbed a hold of the cup and began to drink. She stopped immediately, however, as her tongue burn. Apparently she didn’t think to let it cool. Setting it down, she stuck her tongue out to let the air cool it off, eyes crossing as she tried to see the damage done. A rather silly sight really.
Once the feeling returned to the tip of her tongue, Fuko slowly began to take another sip. This time she could taste the sugar in it, and there seemed to be a lot of it. She liked her tea sweet, though for some reason she had a nagging feeling it might not be a good thing to have her hopped up on sugar. Oh well, there would be time for that later. After placing it down again, she picked up her paintbrush and added the finishing touches to the starfish.
”And done!” she said triumphantly as she placed the paintbrush down.
In front of her on the table laid an orange starfish, but there was something else. With the red paint she added in a face, with the starfish beaming bright and happy like it’s creator. For Fuko, such an adorable face and the pinnacle of cuteness would make this an object none could withstand. Once the girl was in possession of it, everyone would begin to grovel at her feet for it, begging for the chance to touch it and hope some of the cuteness would rub off on them.
Fuko turned in her seat towards the girl. She would have handed the starfish straight too her, but even she knew paint needed to dry first.
”Would you please take that starfish when it’s dry? And please come congratulate Fuko’s sister on her wedding day. She used to be a teacher at this school, and I want all the students to congratulate her.” ___________________________________________________________________________

”Is that they you think I’m magical?” Yukine asked curiously. She hadn’t realized how famous she had become thanks to the spells she cast. It wasn’t really right to call those things spells; they were charms more than anything. The little tricks she had others perform were charms for good luck, higher grades on a test, or even to help find love. But they weren’t anything she could be considering magical for. There was another girl somewhere around school that dabbled in fortune-telling if she remembered correctly. Did that call her a psychic or something because her predictions were true? It was truly a funny thought. ”I assure you the little charms I can use aren’t good enough to consider me a magical girl. Besides, I don’t have a cute magical transformation,” she teased happily. The thought was much too entertaining. Yukine would love to be a magical girl, spreading good will and fighting for justice. It would be just like the manga she sometimes read. But magical girls didn’t exist, and neither did witches. The younger girl must have had an overactive imagination if she really thought Yukine was some type of magical nurse. Was she this bad as a freshman, or was this girl just really weird?
Yukine was willing to put money on the second choice.
But all those thoughts passed as the younger girl decided to go off and paint the starfish carving. It seemed painting it never occurred to the little girl, but she loved the thought. It was funny how something so simple was completely foreign to her. The freshman girl truly was a weird specimen. Yukine just sat and watched Fuko paint merrily along. It was obvious the tiny girl wasn’t a masterful artist, but watching the innocent girl coat the carving in orange somehow warmed Yukine’s heart. The girl was just too cute; how something so simple made her happy was behind Yukine. But the second year girl wasn’t the most mature person around. She spent her free time looking at charm books. And seeing her friends happy and healthy made Yukine happy beyond belief. Fuko was just that way over something as cute and meaningless as the star carving. Oh! But it really wasn’t worthless. The love and care Fuko poured into that starfish made it priceless. Yukine hoped whatever boy (or girl) Fuko was planning on giving it to truly loved it. It was a very special gift from the bottom of that golden eyed girl’s energetically beating heart.
“And done!”
”It’s quite lovely,” Yukine praised.
“Would you please take that starfish when it’s dry? And please come congratulate Fuko’s sister on her wedding day. She used to be a teacher at this school, and I want all the students to congratulate her.”
”Hmm?” Yukine moaned as she moved her index finger to her chin. This starfish wasn’t for a boy she had a crush on, but as a barter tool? She honestly didn’t need a gift to go see this teacher. If Fuko had just asked from the beginning, Yukine would have happily attended Fuko’s sister wedding to wish the woman a well life. ”Your sister’s a teacher? You must be very smart and lucky to have an older sister like that. I’d be delighted to attend, when is the happy date?” Yukine asked with a smile. Her eyes slowly shifted from Fuko to the sopping wet starfish somewhat glued to the paper thanks to the heavy amounts of paint. The girl pushed her chair back as she lifted to her feet. She picked up the paper with the starfish then moved it to the window. The blonde girl opened the window so the paint would dry faster. If it was left to dry like this, then the pretty little starfish would be ready for its new home by the time school was finished.
”Fuko chan, are you sure you don’t want to give this starfish to someone special? It’s very pretty. I’d be more than happy to attend your sister’s wedding without any type of gift. Promise!”
She crossed her heart with her finger, showing how serious she was about attending. It was a childish notion, but somehow she thought it would be more meaningful to someone like Fuko. She did come across quite childish and whimsical after all; but her child-like behavior made her all the more charming. Yukine sauntered back to Fuko’s side as she knelt down slightly. Her right arm pointed at the drying starfish as she cuffed her left hand around her lips so she could whisper in Fuko’s ear. ”I’m sure you’d win a boy heart instantly if you presented him that.” Yukine stood back up and smiled. Something like that orange star was a true gift from the heart. Regardless if a boy liked stars or not, such a cute thing would make them blush. Seeing cute little Fuko and her star would cause any boy to melt instantly.

Ibuki Fuko ___________________________________________________________________________ Fuko was focused on her painting as the girl corrected her about the magic girl situation. Apparently she did cast spells and charms, which Fuko had thought was enough to be a magical girl. According to this girl, however, there had to be a cute magical transformation scene to be one as well. When that thought entered Fuko’s mind, it began to go through the filter in her mind that was starfish. If the transformation had to be cute, a starfish was the perfect job. Fuko just looked up at the girl curiously, trying to imagine her in a starfish-themed costume.
Keeping up with the orange and red theme, the girl looked bright and cheerful in her sailor-styled uniform. The skirt itself was red, with an orange band around the top with little starfish on it. Moving on up, the rest of the uniform kept the color scheme, and she would imagine the back of it would have a giant starfish symbol on the back. To finish up the clothing, she would be wearing a crown, and the jewel of it was, of course, a starfish made of precious jewels. Her weapon of choice was the starfish-topped magical scepter. Fuko’s mind further enhanced the image, adding in it’s own little transformation scene and everything.
To Yukine, however, Fuko seemed to have fallen into a euphoric daydream. Her face was blushing, eyes closed, and her mouth slightly open. For Fuko, the thought of a starfish magic girl had just been to overwhelming, and she couldn’t help but enter such a state. She remained in the state for over a minute before the paintbrush, which she had forgotten was in her hand, began to drip. Soon there were splotches of orange on her uniform, and she quickly snapped back to reality. For a moment she looked around confused, but a quick look at her starfish reminded her of her task.
When she finished and showed it to the girl, she was glad to hear that the girl thought it lovely. Her expression turned to confusion though as the girl seemed not to sure what to make of it. Fuko bit her lip in anticipation as she waited for an answer, and breathed a sigh of relief when she answered with a yes. Victory at last! Another student would be at her sister’s wedding, and she could barely contain the joy she was feeling at the moment. She would have exploded if the question about the date didn’t distract her from her emotions.
”Oh, well, she hasn’t set a date yet….but I’ll let you know as soon something pops up. Thank you so much for attending!”
Fuko sat in her chair, her legs swinging idly, as the girl moved the starfish to the window to dry. It was a good thing the girl remembered to do that, because otherwise she might have had to handle a sopping wet starfish. She was still oblivious to the paint stains on her own clothes, but she hadn’t wanted to ruin the girl’s clothes. Once she felt sure the starfish was safe, Fuko got up to go and get the ones she left behind so she could paint them as well. The girl was nice and all, but if she had the only painted one in the building, people might come rampaging after her to get it! Fuko couldn’t let such a terrible thing happen now could she?
She stopped, however, when the girl mentioned she would be happy to attend without the gift. Fuko looked confused again, not sure what the response should be. Plenty had rejected the starfish right of the back, but no one had said they would go and still reject the starfish. It was an unprecedented situation. Fuko had to think fast instead of just standing there like an idiot.
”Um, it’s an invitation as sorts. I was hoping that people would be so inspired by the adorableness of the starfish and, their hearts melted by it’s warmness, would come to the wedding. Though it sounds like you don’t need such a gift, so please keep it as, uhm, payment as for the bandages and paint supplies.”
The heart-motion made Fuko feel better, and this girl seemed like the kind of person who wouldn’t break a promise. So she didn’t fear that the girl would just suddenly not show up to the wedding whenever it came. Instead, Fuko just wanted to be nice and let the girl keep the very first of the painted starfish. Now that she knew where she could get such supplies, Fuko was going to paint all the starfish to get a much greater effect on everyone. Though from the sounds of it, boys would be affected much greater by her gifts, which surprised Fuko. Wouldn’t the girls be more likely to accept an adorable present as well as understand Fuko’s plight? Then again, it shouldn’t be so surprising that the starfish, once painted, would have their powers multiplied to such a great extent that even boys would break down in awe.
”I hope that happens. If the boys break down under such immense cuteness like that, I’m sure they’ll attend the wedding.”
With that Fuko got off her chair and headed towards the exit, but before she left she turned to face the girl again.
”Don’t fret as Fuko will return, with more starfish to paint and improve their adorableness to epic proportions.”
