Something Else Other Than Bathing

He sighed. He would have wanted to ask her more about why she had thought he was intriguing, but he never did get the chance to do so. She hadn't even really played; it had been mostly he and Narukami... all she had done was keep score. The catlike guy frowned almost imperceptibly, slightly displeased that she was leaving, but respecting her decision all the same. Besides, she had intrigued him too, even for a short while, and so he could say he enjoyed her presence. He nodded. "It was fun..." he trailed off as she exited.
Narukami didn't seem to react as much; perhaps he had simply accepted her departure in a smoother fashion than he. He was learning things about the other boy. He seemed like an even person, someone... rational, simple, and not at all, Mizukami's thoughts reiterated, somebody who he would consider interesting in the first place. Still, he was nice, and nice was good. Not all people are extraordinary in their niceness as Furukawa-senpai is, but a little bit of kindness can go a long way, already.
At any rate, his roommate seemed to want to continue enjoying the various things available for them in the game room, and while he originally addressed the question of what they would do next to the going-to-shower Kinoshita-san, the taller male seemed to have something in mind. The catcher thingy, huh? This is just like the ping-pong thingy. Something I haven't tried before.
He would have declined, since it would mean yet another unfamiliar thing that he didn't consider interesting, and he would have redirected Narukami to the arcades and stuff, even if they looked a little old, but the 'dangos'... maybe if he could get one, he could give it to Furukawa-senpai, or something. The white-haired lad blushed a bit, out of the blue. He dug into his pocket for his coin purse, which was a bit of an ordeal, considering the different stuff he stuffed his pocket with. I think I have enough change...
"You first?"

"Okay...If you say so." Looks like Whitey is still not confident enough to try something out on his own. So I have to take the lead again.
I take out three 100-yen coins, put one in the coin slot, and place the remaining two nearby. It's time for another challenge.
Even though I knew beforehand what should be done, and pretty much memorized which plushies are the easiest to catch, it's still not easy hands-on. Even though you know where to lower the crane, grabbing is a totally different matter. I think those manufacturers deliberately make those cranes rather flimsy for the sake of difficulty.
Until my third, and last, try, I decided to take a small green dango plushie that can fit into the palm of my hand. And since that dango is light enough, I manage to succeed this time. I let out a sigh and admire the tiny globular toy. The two lines that serve as its eyes are simple, but adorable, I have to admit. Hope Kana-chan will like this.
I turn to Whitey, who was standing behind me the whole time: "Come on, it's your turn now."

Narukami tried the machine first.
Mizukami did not really understand completely what the other boy is doing. Sure, the controls seemed simple enough, but once Narukami had taken the controls, it seemed he was completely engaged, employing such tactics that the white-haired student was sure he did not know. He looked completely focused, and yet... and yet, it was only on his third and last try that he managed to get a plushie... a green Dango. He wondered if he could accomplish at least that.
For a moment the taciturn lad admired his roommate's catch, and then nodded in agreement; it was, indeed, his turn now. He gulped a little too audibly. He had been about to seize the controls, but then he remembered why one of his hands were occupied... it had his purse in it, and so he fished some change from it. The offering to appease the great Crane... and here we go.
His first two tries, just like his friend's, were losses. He felt his confidence ebbing; while Narukami might have failed before because he had been trying to get better plushies... well, at least he thought that was the reason his predecessor had failed his first two tries... he had only been aiming for the peach-colored dango in both tries, but so far he had only managed to nudge it. By all possibilities it should be easy, because it was near the chute, but he just kept missing it. Maybe I've used all my luck in the ping-pong game.
And then... in his third try, even though the catcher did not manage to snap the plushie, by some freak of nature (though he should probably not call it freak, since he benefited from it) the contraption nudged the ball-shaped toy ever so slightly, so that it fell from the pile and into the exit pipe.
He extracted the dango from the prize compartment, feeling elated. He had actually managed to do it; and unlike with the ping-pong bit, he actually felt happy about it, rather than just relieved. He couldn't help smiling.

OOC: Sorry for the shortness. "That's cool". I give Whitey a pat on his back. "I wish Lady Luck would have her eyes on me a bit more like she does to you."
Looks like we are even this time. Me and my new buddy, each person have one Dango. At least we both get what we want. And these globular plushies have their own unique charm like no other. Their purpose are like stuffed animals, but there is something radically different about them.
However, the fun has to end here. Only five minutes left until dinner time. We'd better get the good seats, since the dining room will be very crowded soon enough.
I offer Whitey a handshake: "Well, Ayumu-kun, I think it's time for us to go to dinner. It was really fun playing with you".

"I'm... not always this lucky." he admitted.
Today was a good day, a good afternoon, almost a good evening... he'd met two new people, had fun at something he did not expect to be fun, and then even got a souvenir that he could possibly convert to a gift. If he'd get the guts to give the gift, that is. He'd have to be grateful. He felt... serene.
"I guess we should." assented Ayumu, still a little dazed.
He was only slightly disappointed that he wouldn't get to see Akira's fighting-game prowess, even if it will only be pitted to his casual-gaming nature. In fact, there were probably some things he would have wanted different in this encounter, but all the same, it was done, and it had been good to him in a lot more ways. After all, sometimes, what happens to you is what you need, not necessarily what you want. There was no need to dwell on what-if's. He was very grateful.
Maybe I should apply that little thought... a little more.
He chuckled to himself, seeing his new friend already almost to the exit. He followed. There were good things to come, too. Like food, perchance.
