Sakagami Tomoyo______________________________________________________ As soon as the weatherman on the television channel had predicted snow, posters had magically appeared around the school about the sledding fundraiser for the cheer team. Curious about the event, Sakagami Tomoyo, a second-year student at Hikarizaka High, had gone see what was up on the day of the fundraiser, which was also the day after it snowed about two inches of snow, enough to cover the hill in a blanket of white. Sure enough, the slope was packed with students from the high school.
The school cheer team must have gone crazy. At least, that was what she thought. Who would want to start up a fundraiser that revolved around other students flying down a slope at high speed? In fact, why did the current student council even approve of such a fundraiser that would clearly involve injuries? It was an irresponsible decision. Tomoyo shook her head disapprovingly as she surveyed the scene.
There it was at the foot of the hill, the booth that the cheerleading team had so deviously set up. They had first-aid kits, hot chocolate, gloves, goggles, and hats... all for sale at ridiculous prices. At least bandages should be free, but no, they were not. They even had rental sleds in case one did not bring their own. Although all profits went toward funding the cheerleaders, the team was practically making money off of people’s misfortunes!
Either way, she didn’t come only to observe. She might as well have fun. Tomoyo dragged her own sled along, which was of a sleek silver and blue design. It was a few years old, but it still served its purpose. Dressed for the weather, she was bundled up in a gray checkered winter coat with a white faux fur trim, the hood of which was pulled over her head to further protect her from the cold. Tomoyo also had on a pair of dark blue waterproof snow pants and black winter boots.
Her breath was a frosty white in the cold air as stared up at the slope before she started the trek up the hill. A few times up and down was sure to tire anyone out... and already there were people sitting in the snow at the bottom of the hill, taking a break from the physically draining activity.

Intens hubbub could be one way to describe the noise coming from atop the snowy hill. With bodies flying down at speed, some minus their mode of transportation, Koji had chosen to seclude himself underneath a tree, away from most of the people. He had parked an ungainly hunk of blue plastic against the tree should sledding take his fancy.
The cold nipped at his ears, forcing him to pull his scarf up closer to his face. He let out a sigh, that rose in a small rolling plume, away from him. He reminded himself he was here to have some fun, after all, he had invited Takuya to test out the slope, but it was beginning to look like he wasn't coming. Training perhaps, something Koji had neglected to do this week. There would be plenty of time to train for the kickboxing tourament at the alotted time. Still, he couldn't help himself from dishing out a few quick jabs at an imaginary opponent. At least it might keep him warm. He would've purchased a hot chocolate, but he didn't condone it being sold by the same people who put such a high price on medical kits for the inevitable bumps and bruises that would occur. It was quite an underhanded move, but he couldn't exactly force them to give them out for free.
"Quick on the strikes. Always keep your defence up. Kick when the opponent is open. Always keep your defence up. Jab. Hook." Koji recited. It was previously Takuya's personal mantra, having been taught it in turn by their instructor. Since Koji and he went to different schools, they only really saw each other at kickboxing a few nights a week.
He didn't exactly have many friends in school, given his reputation for putting bullies in their place. People, naturally would assume he himself was the biggest bully of all. He wasn't exactly comfortable with being labeled a bully, but he was willing to live with it. He couldn't exactly stand back and let people be picked on. Things had only gotten violent in a small percentage of cases, and usually in self-defence after calling the bullies out, thus angering them, provoking them, which was more or less his intent if his usual use of a sarcastic tone was any indicator. He was trying hard to avoid making it a habit. Getting kicked out of school was not something he wanted.
Throwing those thoughts to the back of his mind, Koji scooped up his mishapen sled in one hand, and a small, uneven snowball in the other, he let the latter roll down the hill, and he himself set down his blue plastic ride on the snow. Perhaps Takuya would show up after all, and the two could race downhill, and back up again.
"You'd better come here soon Ito. Before this place gets too crowded."
